Nurse P - Painting

Here are a few of snapshots along the way as I painted in on top of the flats.

I decided to begin by painting in some of the background details before then switching to concentrate on Nurse P, and then working on Nikki.

I generally tend to work this way because firstly, I'm not a fan of painting backgrounds so by forcing myself to do a bit of work on them early saves me a slump at the end of the painting and secondly it means that while I'm painting the foreground I've got something to balance the painting against.

After that, I worked up the major details on Nurse P - the focus of the scene before turning my attention to Nikki, painting her with broader, rougher strokes since she's further into the background.

As I worked up this scene I went back-and-forth deciding on whether or not to have Nurse P wear an apron, what she should hold in her hand and whether Nikki's outfit was correct for what I wanted in the final painting.

Thankfully because of layers and folders in Clip Studio I was able to paint such options in different layers and try out the options.

The final stage sees me pull in a series of coloured textures and washes in layers and applying them on top of the scene to add more interest and lighting - here I decided to use greenish hues in the background to contrast with Nurse P's bright red uniform.

And, as a last-minute tweak I decided to blindfold Nikki - it felt right and added a little more spice to the painting since she would be unaware of what 'treatment' she'd be getting next...
