(Well, to spare Perry’s feelings, perhaps “hate” is too strong a word. Tibbs would say he just hates the things she says. And the things she does. Also her. In her entirety.)
(this may or may not get a sequel doodle with Liv, mostly I just wanted to draw Tibbs’ big scary pig teeth)
stealth edit: tibbs’ teeth were bugging me, so I decided to track down better reference pics of boar teeth. I’d drawn his molars too big and his whetter teeth pointing in the wrong direction. Also I decided to not have his lips pulling so far backwards, as boars are not wolves. I found out I can make gifs in procreate, so I made a tiny gif showing the edits. :3

You're absolutely right, for all Tibbs disdain for Liv, he's not going to hurt a frail old lady, or even yell at her, really. Lulu, though? Lulu would sock Liv straight in the face and not think twice about it

She's a skilled social climber and can be quite (tactically) sweet and thoughtful, and this has earned her many "friends" (largely sycophants and gossip buddies), though very few genuine connections. Mostly Liv wants someone to control, someone who will tirelessly sing her praises and feed her ego. Most people are not willing to be that, so Liv has little patience for most people. Most people only know Liv's surface level sugary-sweet socialite act, very few have met the true Liv.

Pigs also have a cultural tradition of hanging on to the tusks of their departed loved ones, and even carving and staining intricate designs into them, so they can be kept around as treasured ornaments.

2023-10-19 05:18:39 +0000 UTCYes, though I did exaggerate the teeth a little. I doubt actual irl boars can pull their lips back as far as Tibbs is, though. A cool fact about boars is that they have upper tusks called "whetters", because they grind against the giant lower tusks in a way that keeps them very sharp, the same way one sharpens a knife on a whetstone. Self-sharpening teeth! I'm still sorting out how Liv and Tibbs interact. Tibbs is civil to her, or tries to be. I imagine Liv has a lot of old-school speciesism going on, where she feels that prey animals are stupid and dim and deserving of exploitation. She thinks Tibbs is a big brute with a marble-sized brain. She probably treats him like "the help", ie. not really talking to or acknowledging him unless she is demanding something from him. It doesn't help that Tibbs was a custodian when he met Perry, and that compared to Perry (who holds two degrees), Tibbs has little formal education (he's well-read, but it was actually Perry who helped him earn his GED within their first year of knowing each other). So Liv holds a LOT of contempt and classist disdain for Tibbs, which is mixed with an undercurrent of fear. This fear keeps her in check. With Perry, Liv will speak her unfiltered criticisms out loud with zero regard for Perry's feelings. With Tibbs, because she doesn't want to get stomped into paste, she masks her disgust behind a sort of patronizing syrupy-sweet false-politeness. It's cruelty mixed with plausible deniability, fun for the whole family! :D Liv likes to act surprised that Perry and Tibbs are still together, and insinuate that Tibbs is just some misguided phase Perry is going through. She often "forgets" Tibbs name and prefers to refer to him as "the Pig".

He knows she's an abusive narcissist, so he'll distance himself from her....buuut then the holidays will roll around and he'll start feeling lonely, or maybe Liv will reach out to guilt him about not-visiting, saying that she misses her only child and she's not getting any younger...and Perry will decide to give it another shot, convinced that THIS time will be different, THIS time his mom is gonna break down and embrace him and apologize for everything and tearfully admit she's proud of him and has loved him all along....but he just gets his feelings hurt and the cycle starts again. Perry is frequently irritated and hurt by his mom, but he doesn't hate her. She's the only parent he has left, and he loves her, even when he doesn't want to. Tibbs is pretty familiar with the cycle by now and can't help but feel annoyed about it.

It’s a mashup of rugby and American football and dangerous to the point of needing protective gear and barring players below a certain weight class. Between the tackling and tusks and hooves and horns and antlers and several hundred pounds of muscle behind them, there are many opportunities for injury, yet the sport remains incredibly popular. Tibbs isn’t actually that big of a fan, but his mom is, and he’s a New Orleans native, so eh, might as well wear the Jersey she gave him.
