gonna be exploring some of Doris' past and present, since I got requests to see more of her. :3 Decided to actually study how mandrills look and thus make a few tweaks to her design. This concept art features Doris in her thirties, before she began calling herself Doris. At this point in her life, she was manager at her family's bookstore. Male mandrills are raised from birth to be strong and stoic, supporting their families as an authority figure and provider, rather than a source of love or comfort....to the point that it's almost normalized for adult males to be "solitary", that is, for males to briefly settle down with a female, sire a child or two, then leave. Some more extreme males will brag about how their status and success allows them to pay child support to multiple different females.
Doris was very much an outlier in this regard, and dutifully played the part of both a caring, involved father and husband....all while unable to shake the vague sense of discomfort and depression that'd plagued her since childhood.
