A Little Bit About WIEDERGEBURT
Added 2018-12-19 16:01:56 +0000 UTCSince chapter 13 is the ending for volume 1 of my erotic wuxia harem time travel series, I thought I'd talk a little about it here before I upload my next chapter tomorrow. You can think of this as my afterword.
I'm sure you've all realized that my story is technically two stories in one. There is the main plotline, which is the story you follow after Eryk gets sent back in time and winds up in his 17 year-old body. However, there is also the secondary story, which is what happened to Eryk in the past.
In most isekai/fantasy/sci-fi light novels, there will be a volume or two dedicated to the past. It will tell you how these characters got to where they are now, so you can better understand them, their motivations, and why they act in a certain way and do things that might not make sense to you.
I didn't want to do things that way. One of the biggest issues I have with light novels that have "flashback" volumes showing you what happened before the current events of the story took place is that, by the time these characters' pasts are revealed, I no longer really care. I just want them to continue the main story.
This is part of the reason I decided to write two stories at once. I figured if you were able to read about Eryk's past alongside the main story, you could better understand him and his motivation as the story progresses without being forced to deviate from reading the main plot several hundred chapters down the line so you can have a several dozen chapter flashback. I think that would be annoying.
As a means of not interrupting the main story, I write the story of Eryk's past through a series of dream sequence flashbacks. These dream sequences don't always happen at the beginning of every chapter. Some chapters don't have them. I did this because the flashbacks are Eryk dreaming about his past. The only times I write a "flashback" is when a day or more passes between two chapters.
The second reason I'm writing Eryk's past alongside his present is because I wanted to write sex scenes that wouldn't detract from the character development in my main story.
I don't like it when characters get together without developing their relationship first. At the same time, I really wanted to write sex scenes. My workaround for this was that I would write about Eryk's past. This allowed me to focus on writing about his relationship with Kari in the past. By doing this, I was able to show you how their relationship developed from simple friends to lovers. Not only did this allow me to properly showcase why Eryk loves Kari so much, it also allowed me to write at least two sex scenes, which makes my inner Jiraiya very happy.
How do you feel about the sex scenes? Were they good? Were they bad? Did they have enough pzazz? Was there a good amount of "oomph!" and "ooohhhh yes!" to stimulate your brain and nether regions? Please let me know. I'm interested in hearing whether or not I did a good enough job with these.

For sure. Definitely a better way of handling it.

2018-12-20 03:48:53 +0000 UTCI'm like this with anime and manga too. Bleach was terrible about this. Like they'd be in the middle of this EPIC battle, and then suddenly, we're given 24-50 minutes worth of pointless flashbacks explaining such and such character's motivation and life story. I figured this would be an interesting way to share more about Eryk and Kari without interrupting the main plot, and since I don't always have flashbacks (especially during action-packed chapters), it shouldn't interrupt the story.

2018-12-20 01:28:52 +0000 UTCYou are right. There is nothing worse than the flow of a story being halted while there is a huge flashback happening. Especially if its a full novel you have been waiting an age for to find out what happens next. Most of the time I don't mind the flashback stuff but it kills my interest a little as I am there to read current events that have been happening and building up. Weaving the flashback stuff through works pretty well as we get to see the flashbacks without it totally messing up the flow.

2018-12-20 00:35:21 +0000 UTCI personally enjoyed those ßėxüäl Scenes very much. They were right up my alley, you could say. You could probably write hardcore smut if you wanted, and people probably not mind if there was no pictures. That's talent man!
