Health Blues
Added 2017-06-11 01:03:19 +0000 UTCSo back in my mid-early 20s I started to get a tremor in my neck. It was small, infrequent, and so no big deal. fast-forward to now and it has grown to be a very serious problem. I have a muscle at the base of my skull on the right side that for no good reason has just gone utter hambone and triggers CONSTANTLY. I am perpetually shaking my head back and forth in a 'no' motion all day every day totally involuntarily. It has inhibited my work and gives me massive headaches by the end of the day.
I went to the doctor and he suspects that it's 'essential tremor' which means that it isn't a secondary symptom for something else, like my liver or what-have-you. This means it's a neurological disorder. I got a referral to a neurologist and am in the process of tracking one down.
Needless to say, it's a big old pain in the neck (literally) and I'm hoping to get it taken care of ASAP because it's slowing me down, embarrassing, and unpleasant. I have a working trip up until AC and so will probably be telling everyone 'no' all con long as I won't be able to get an appointment before that. If you see me there, I'm not shaking my head at you on purpose! :P

If you are located anywhere near the Seattle area I have recommendations for neurologists that specialize in treating essential tremors. Tbh they may be able to recommend people in your area as well if you aren't near Seattle. My mom suffers from essential tremors and as she got older they became so bad that medication stopped helping and she could hardly use her hands. Then she got Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery and it was miraculous. She can write, eat and drink like a "normal" person again. I keep meaning to make a video about it because it really is just that amazing. At early levels though it can usually be treated with certain types of medication. If you have any questions feel free to contact me - I usually go to the doc with my mom for her follow ups so I've seen a lot from that side of things.
