DRAGONBALL Z Golden Age - Chapter 6 [Cover Art]

Okay, I wanted to wait until I had the first few pages done before I showed this to everyone. But I did such a good job that I couldn't wait. BEHOLD!

The Cover Art for Chapter 6 of the FINAL CHAPTER of the Bojack Unbound Arc. The last chapter had a lot of action, but this will be the pinnacle! The climactic final battle between Bojack and the Galaxy Soldiers against the new Z-Fighters!

Originally I wanted the art to only feature Gohan or to have him in a showdown with Bojack himself on the front page. However, I soon decided the best impactful cover art would one that would include everyone, in honour of their hard work since their encounter with the androids and in celebration of their first battle fighting as a team, and not as individuals. But of course, while their teamwork has definitely shone through here, all of them are supported by their pillar.

The first was always Goku. But for this generation, it's Gohan, his son, who is now going to carry on the mantle into a new era- the Golden Age era when DBZ was at its finest in story-telling, which I hope to capture in my writing and drawing.

This was really the whole purpose of me creating this comic in the first place. I always looked back on the old DB and DBZ shows/manga with such fondness, because back before DBS, DBZ's tone shift into more serious story-telling was a real head-turner back in the 90s, when comic books were a little more edgy and a little more serious (maybe too serious sometimes, but I didn't think that was a bad thing. Hell, they even drew Wonder Woman in a thong back then, which is fire, not gonna lie).

These days, movies and TV shows have become too watered-down, copy-and-paste, subverted, overly formulaic and homogenous. While formula is ideal for telling good stories (in fact I believe it is fundamental for good storytelling), it's passion, creativity, and moving the pieces forward through development that makes a story worthwhile.

Now, since we've arrived at the beginning of Chapter 6, I want to take this time to ask ALL my fans a question:

Which was your favourite chapter of Golden Age so far?

My answer, I love the cover art for Chapter 3, but it's a toss up between Chapters 3 and 4 overall for me- one because of the Gohan/Videl encounter and the other the Zangya backstory and how I set up her first meeting with Gohan. I could go either way.

I await your opinions on the art and your answers below...

My favorite part is when you gave Krillin his due in his fight against Piccolo in the tournament. He's always been my favorite character. Out of all the Z fighters, I think he's the bravest in that he always continues to fight despite knowing how much more powerful his opponents are than him

Also do you think maybe down the line Krillin could have nine dots instead of six,as a sign that he has improved. Like maybe he goes back to his old temple to settle the past and trains the next master of the temple

I hope to see more of this Videl and Gohan together like your other stories but more romantic scenes with them.

And as far as Netflix is concerned kengan ashura is pretty good, even if it pales in comparison to the manga.

I love them all so it’s hard to choose but I think chapter 3 is my favorite because it was the first time I ever saw anyone draw Krillin and tien with the respect and development they deserve! The other chapter’s are all tied for second though lol

I won't mention Netflix. Although.... Bastard !! Is actually quite decent, and that is totally a 90s anime manga.

😑 Oh God please don’t mention Netflix

GamerLegend09

😆 AAHHH I KNEW IT!!!

GamerLegend09

As much as I would love for a new Hokuto no Ken with top-tier art/animation, I know it's better off as is. I don't even want to imagine how it'd be bastardized if it got the "modern" Netflix anime treatment. A "modernized" Hokuto no Ken would NOT be Hokuto no Ken, that 80s vibe with rugged, unapologetically masculine men and feminine women is essential to the series.

*Pg.1/Chapter cover* This. Is. FIRE!!!🔥 The main hero of the future to the golden age Universe amidst the faces of warriors and fighters glancing To the light that will shine and protect them from the darkness that invades

☺️ having been born in the year OF 90 I’m no stranger of the classic’s myself and with some luck (and stealthy secrecy from my parents 🥷) I was able to catch my first glimpse of fist of the Northstar anime so naturally my love for the manga would Follow suit. As for my favorite chapters of golden age I would have to say they’re chapters 3 and 4 For the same reasons, the Gohan/Videl encounter and the Zangya backstory and how You set up her first meeting with Gohan….😆 I literally felt like you lit fire in my belly and in my heart Bruh

GamerLegend09

Fist of the North Star was fire. It was definitely made during the period Mad Max was the most popular action series at the time. Reina is, in a way, my way of introducing a little of Fist of the North Star in my story with her fighter killing martial arts.

Classic series I had the privilege of personally discovering it myself when I was at age of nine so that was the year 1999 for me also, I love the change of your profile For said iconic anime ☺️

GamerLegend09

I'm definitely with you on 90s comics. A lot of people make fun of them for being edgy but as someone who consumes both western comics and some manga they have a special place in my heart and are better than a lot of the lowest common denominator "modern audience" trash that's churned out today. That's probably one reason why Fist of the North Star is my favorite manga ever.
