More Project Juggling

I feel absolutely awful saying this, but there will be more delays on the travel projects. I've finished the Bloodborne / Sekiro / Elden Ring video at last (https://youtu.be/hPRo4arGaSk), which is good news, and I got within 24 hours of leaving on my trip until some last minute mechanical problems grounded the car for another short while. The problem with this is that Nate, my audio editor, was going to come with and help with the project, but I've been asking him to push his time off from his day job just like I've been pushing this trip back and having to apologize to all of you. He simply can't do it anymore this season. And with the heat wave and the pandemic still going strong I'm concerned about taking on the whole thing solo. We've agreed to push it back until September-October.

I know this must be infuriating to some people, you've already paid for me to do this, you're sick of hearing about it, you want the travel content you were promised. I'm not giving up. But this is the hardest thing I've ever tried to coordinate and once I missed this last deadline of leaving today everything else about this attempt collapsed like a house of cards. This is, very specifically, what the refund system is all about-- if you've had it with waiting, I'll give you everything back you put in.

On the up side, this isn't the only thing I have going on. I've been juggling many large projects, and if one ball goes down, another comes up. There will be no gap in content. I will continue to create and upload video game videos over the rest of the summer. I know this isn't what I promised or what people necessarily want, but there *will* be absolutely no downtime, I'm leaping directly into a replacement project that I hope will tide everyone over while I gear up for another attempt at actually getting on the road. It  has NEVER been this hard to start a travel project before, and I'm extremely ashamed to have had to delay it so many times. The only thing I'll say in my defense is that if I can pull it off and do it the way I'm trying to do it, it'll be unlike anything I've done before-- bigger, more intricate, more ambitious.

I hope you're all able to accept what I have for you in the meantime and are able to bear with me and have patience. Again, I know folks are probably sick of hearing about the travel projects and sicker of the delays, but I am trying my absolute utmost to make them happen.

With apologies,

Noah

take your time and don't feel pressured!

Rosettenwurm

You may be the most midwest person I have ever heard of living outside of the midwest.

Please do not put my name in the Credits.

I personally expect nothing for my membership. We know you take your work seriously, that's why we're here! Quality over quantity! Don't let your trip be ruined by work please.

Andrew Davis

No problem, we're with you all the way, quality content like yours is incredibly demanding to produce, especially as a 2-3 man operation. you're doing right by us just keeping us updated. Endure; in enduring, grow strong.

Max C.C.

I understand where he is coming from, if anything those who actualy give him money are more of a concern because he know we pay monthly and whe he has slowdowns he prob feels bad. No matter what we say he will still feel that way because he is clearly a very concensus person. Which is what makes his insights so unique compare to the other ego jammin "this is how it is" folks on the internet. I don't fret, but I'm sure even if everyone here said it's cool and he knew it for sure, he would still feel the need to explain and apologize. I am kind of the same way. Granted, I just found out that PayPal was not accepting my "Privacy" card I made for it anymore apparently and hasn't been making the donations for a few months

Chase Zarefoss

Starting to really think you just don't read the comments here. I'm sure you know your fanbase on YouTube really well but we aren't them, and you seem to really not know us. Every time you do this we tell you to chill. If you do it to ease your own conscience then fine I guess, but it looks more to me like self-flagellation. We don't need nor want that. Just let us know what you're working on every now and then and people here will be happy, just please stop prostrating yourself when you do, makes us feel bad for you instead. We just want you to be able to make your art, that's all.

Mojken

Honestly, for myself, the travelogue videos are the ones that interest me the least so if they're delayed im not bothered at all. That said, the ones you've done in the past were the only ones i actually enjoyed listening to. Every time i see you post a video, of any kind, i get a little hit of dopamine. So take your time, do what you need to do, and i at least will be right here waiting for the next masterpiece.

Keil Ahrens

Buddy, I am just happy you're getting to do this kind of thing at all.

Doctor Yiff

No stress Noah. We’re all very happy to take the time you need to get your travel videos up, it can’t be easy to organise. The Soulsbourne video was excellent and absolutely worth the patronage. Stay chill bro and take your time

Lankey Crisp

The only thing that's infuriating is how often you apologize. Who set these deadlines? Was it you? Stop limiting yourself. Whatever gets done is what gets done, and it'll be ready when it's ready. Time you spend on here wording your apologies and flagellating yourself with guilt would be much better spent on a fraction of a percent of your next project. Just do your thing and trust us to trust you.

Rob Womble

I’m legitimately becoming concerned that my Patreon-age is putting you through needless bouts of guilt and anxiety. Is there a way I can just slip ten dollars a month into your account without calling attention to it, so you can carry on with your work without this level of stress?

Robert Steffen

Make the content YOU want to make. I'd rather you bump the entire trip to next year if it means you get to deliver the project you wanted to do rather than compromising the creative vision in order to get "something" out on time.

This

C2

Take your time. I prefer having 100 videos over 10 years over getting only 20 videos in 1 year because you overworked and stressed yourself to death.

Grey Rocket

Please take all the time you need. I would HAPPILY support you on Patreon for a full year without a single video. There is no need for an apology. Please keep doing your thing, I can never have enough of it.

Sebastien Decuyper

Patreon isn't transactional, I don't pay $10 a month expecting X amount of videos or else I'm upset. Patreon is about ensuring artists have the ability to create what they want when they want. This isn't a retail transaction, it's about giving time and space to do interesting things. Produce what you want and give yourself the time you need. That's what will result in the best content.

Sela

No one writes quite like you man, and that's especially true for your travel content. Take heart dude! It's absolutely worth the wait for us and knowing that you're doing your best is more than enough for anyone here.

Electron Kaleidoscope

There is the concern of the artist of not satisfying the audience. Let it be known that your work is of the quality that your audience will be satisfied simply with putting your effort in what you want to do and what you can do. Do not feel guilt over what cannot be done.

NeoMaister

My liege, for as long as I have a job, you will have my patronage. Your expression of sadness to your perceived failures makes me worried, as it seems so genuine. You don't owe us anything, we owe you for your work, for having already entertained us so thoroughly with your insight and perspective. I truly appreciate what you have done, and hope you are doing well. Be safe and take care of your health above all else <3

Grimmalkin Hiestand

The art you create brings a lot of people joy and comfort. Hopefully, the comments to this post give a fraction of that back to you. Take your time, and take care Noah. We'll all still be here whether you're always juggling or if you take the time you need to put your hands in your pockets.

Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex Raymond

Noah, not sure if you read these comments, but you mentioned in your last video that you recommended playing Sekiro with the Japanese voice track and English subtitles. You might be interested to know that the Japanese version of the original Dark Souls (maybe the later ones too, but I haven't played them) by default has an English voice track with Japanese subtitles, so, in a way, you're giving yourself the From Software experience that Japanese audiences were originally getting from the company.

Philipp K

One of these releases I hope you can publish a video without feeling the guilt or need to apologize for something, my dude. You’ve long since proven the value in your insights, your output, and your process. I support you with no expectation of any particular content at any particular time, I just want to do my part to properly and fairly compensate you for good work you’ve done and the good work I know you’ll do. Be well, friend.

Zach Phillips

your travel videos, to me specifically, are some of my favorite youtube videos ever, but i'm here and i stay here for yr video game analysis. trust me, i've had years long patreon subscriptions to people who produce waaay less than you and with even bigger gaps. a fall road trip sounds really pretty so good luck. i doubt too many people are too upset about this.

Creamer

STOP. IT. You’ve done nothing wrong, and you’re putting out unrivaled quality at an unrivaled cadence. We’re here for ya. Shout out to Tom Leher. I also recommend the Outer Wilds to whoever reads this, despite no one asking me. 🫡

Tick Dickler

Speaking on behalf of your entire patreon community, I forgive you completely and hearby absolve you of any guilt you might feel. Looking forward to more video game videos in the meantime, and hopefully gas prices come down a bit by October and it all works out for the better anyway!

Bread Destroyer

Production issues happen. You can’t scale up a person, and no one really expects you to churn out content at a rate that ruins you. Enjoy a relaxing summer, and I’ll still be giving you money when the road trip happens.

Argus

my dude you're burying the lede of "hey there's another 4.5 hours of the content you crave" by apologising for other stuff. i'm proper pleased for you to do nothing at all with my $10/month based just on your previous output. please don't worry!

Max Golden

Noah, you played Disco Elysium. Stop being a Sorry Cop. Just let things come as they may. This isn't a transaction, and I'm not going to ask for a refund no matter how many times you tell me.

Adam Bucceri

Don’t sweat delaying the travel stuff Noah. Listening to the new video right now and it’s fantastic. Great coverage as always

Derek Sudbury

I will never ask for a refund. I support you because I love all the things you've made, I continue to get enjoyment watching and rewatching all your old videos. No-one else produces the exact kind of content you do the way you do.

Euphemia Wilson

Noah, thank you as always for the transparency. I can't wait for the final product. I also really worry about your refund policy - how can you have a reliable and secure income if you have to anticipate large numbers of refund requests? You're very upfront about shifting schedules and the difficulty of producing some of your work to a set schedule. Anyone backing you will, or at least should, be aware of it. Our way of showing disfavour with your output should be to remove our funding, not seeking compensation for the previous payments. Please reconsider your position so you may spend what you have been paid!

Sam Jones

Noah, we're both on the West Coast, dont fret yourself to death at 5 AM for our sake! I literally just checked your Twitter last night before bed to see if you'd had any updates, and was ecstatic to hear we have an Elden Ring video coming out! We're excited to see your travel video no matter how long it takes. Humans make plans and God laughs, take it easy on yourself. We'll be here when you leave and when you get back. Take care of yourself! Cant wait to watch this one 7 times.

Alec Blue

I personally didn't start donating to your Patreon so I could get mad at what you do or don't create. Reading through these replies that seems to kind of be the consensus. Dude I've been so stoked for this video. Just keep doing you and stay healthy, you know?

Optimus Crimes

Noah, I'm so sorry to hear about the delay to your trip. I know you've really been looking forward to this, and I feel the same way. It's amazing how things can just cascade out of control sometimes, and you look at the calendar and suddenly the project is off on the horizon again. But I also know that when the stars align it's going to be worth it, so I don't mind waiting. In some perverse way a troubled production schedule feels like a good omen for the finished work. I look forward to watching Souls Inheritors in the small moments I can find to do so.

Ben

You provide some of the best content I've ever seen, so take your sweet time my friend!

Annon Follower

Yo, Noah, the money is there to fund your art, it doesn't come with a deadline. I wouldn't care if you took my money and used it to buy bubblegum. Also, the video you just dropped today is amazing and is really helping me relax and have a good day.

BoogersBoogersBoogersBoogersBoogersBoogers

My dear Noah, 'you've already paid for me to do this' is never my attitude. The money is not being sent with strings attached. We just like what you do and trust you to apply yourself. If you want to add a patron tier that includes diagnosing my old car's quirks, then I'll expect a specific service. Until then, consider the money an invoice for your backlog of excellent videos.

Whitman Schorn

Relax and thanks!

TreeofLife

I have never once regretted being a Patron on here, you make the BEST video game analysis videos. I hope the travel planning goes as smooth as it can from here because I know you are eager to do this trip. You are doing great!

Jonathan Sisson

No worries, Noah. Take care, thanks for taking time to write up an update!

AtomicBanana

Noah. It's ok. I promise it's okay. We don't support you because we demand you stick to a schedule, we support you because we love your work, whenever and however it comes. Please, please don't project the impatience and entitlement of a few people onto all of us.

SoldierHawk

Can't wait to watch your new video! Take your time with the travel stuff, it's a mammoth task. Excited for it when you get to it, but no rush on it from me.

David S

Noah, there isn't any change to your content schedule, short of you outright declaring you're done, that would ever make me question my patronage. Keep being as spectacular as you have been and we'll gladly have whatever of that you'll share with us.

Aengus Cunningham

I agree with Steve

Rick

I discovered you through your Dark Souls video, and I've since gone back and watched almost every thing you've made. You're one of the hardest working content creators I've ever seen, and I'll happily keep chucking my $10 at you whether the next video is delayed by weeks, months or years. Your content has enriched my life so much, take take as much time as you need. I think everyone here feels the same way.

Jordan Eller

I don't have a problem with this. I have and will continue to enjoy whatever content you produce!

Steve Whittle

No worries Noah, it’s win win for us either way so don’t feel bad. Everyone here loves your game videos too, no one is purely subscribing for travel content - and even if they are, you’ve given them a very generous refund offer. Happy days!

Ben Murray

Wishing you the best

Grant Kelly Walker

Take your time Noah ❤

Hunter Lantz

Delays happen! You’re 100% fine, no refunds wanted here. It will happen when the time is right ❤️

Tom Webster

Looking forward to devouring the new video and excited for whatever you feel like putting out for the rest of the summer. I also want to recommend you to check out The Outer Wilds (not Worlds) some time in the future, for your own enjoyment or for the channel. I think you'll like it, and I'm pretty sure you could write something beautiful about it.

Arvid Karlström

Listen hear American, you just Keep on Keepin on

Mang0 Bandit0

Don't beat yourself up like this Noah, delays and reschedules happen all the time. Wish you a great summer and best of luck getting the trip going next time!

Marcus Berg

thank you for the update. you all take the time you need. im here because i believe in you and your work, and am happy to take it as it comes. Hope you have a good Summer!

Matthew Casseday

You'll hear no complaints from me. You're doing an incredible job, and I have no doubt your project will be all the better for the extra prep time. There's no one out there doing quite what you do Noah, and despite a few very vocal idiots you are letting nobody down.

Ian Buckley

You're good, my dude. Take care of yourself.

PHILIP A COFFEY

The world is falling apart. Just waking up to an email that says “Noah Caldwell-Gervais…” is enough to keep me going. You’re a national treasure.

Daniel Czarnowski

No worries Noah - love everything you put out, and look forward to whatever comes next whenever it comes :)

Brooke

Like most everyone here, delays aren't a problem for me. Just focus on doing what you want when you can, and we'll still be here supporting you. :)

Jules de Bellefeuille Defoy

I just saw your email notice as I dropped my new Elden Ring art haah so perfect. 4h 40m - 14s. Was hoping for 4:40:4 😁😁 Was waiting for it - of course love your work and been loving it since 4 years now. The DS video was excellent. Here’s the art if anyone is curious. (Artist of 24 years) ✊🏼 https://www.instagram.com/p/CfYlye5oxsX/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Enjoy! Can’t wait to watch it!

Adam Spizak

No need to apologize! Can't wait to watch the new video. As another person new to the Souls series (and surprised by my love of it) I've really been appreciating your perspective.

Trav

It really sucks to see you beat yourself up over these hiccups, because I really don't mind a delay, and I really doubt many others do (I'm sure some do, but fuck em). The big disconnect I think is when you think that we've "paid" for you to do these travel content and videos. I mean, maybe I speak for myself but I've just been *giving* money to hope that you can spend more time doing things you *enjoy*. The moment these videos feel more like an obligation than like something you have fun doing is going to be a sad day.

Morgan Kramer

The only thing I am sick of is you beating yourself up over stuff you have far less control over than you seem to think you have. :3 Anyhow, yay for 4.5 hours of Noah content!

Mikhail Aristov

Your videos are absolutely second to none, and I have complete faith in you and your content. Good luck, Noah -- rooting for you and looking forward to this project!

Ronan de Silva

I have no idea how you managed to get through Elden Ring so quickly to write a critique for it! Look forward to watching it (and hopefully hearing my name at the end this time!)

Kevin McAvinchey

Don’t sweat it, Noah. Anyone who’s watched your videos know how hard you work and how much you care. I’m excited to watch and rewatch your new From video.

Steven Donovan

Honestly your passion for your projects is one of the biggest reason I enjoy your content, and I understand why putting off something you're excited about doing feels so frustrating. Don't forget to take some time for self care. Always looking forward to whatever you're cooking up next.

Wash Manblast

You are doing the right thing and I consider my patronage to be money well spent.

Wusashicat

Honestly, I'm always happy for -any- content! I view your video game and travel videos with equal love. Take care of yourself, take care of your crew, and keep on doing what you do!

Spirit of 70

Don’t worry about it. Scheduling long trips is always going to be incredibly complex, and you need to make sure your trip is safe, enjoyable, and exciting. Having a good trip is far more important than fitting an arbitrary deadline.

Odachi65

Congrats on the new upload, take your time, your essays are worth the wait

Dragoon

No problem, take as much time as you need

Shieldwall

No worries my dude, times is tough and it's been an observation of mine that most people's plans aren't working out this year, especially with regards to travel. Keep doing what you do and we'll keep on loving the crap out of it. Be well ✌️

DeadheadYates

Honestly, life happens. Thanks for the update, don't sweat it too much. I've seen plenty of content creators drive themselves into a burnout because they feel pressured to keep the flow of content going. I think the only thing that really annoys an audience is when you simply stop informing them why things get delayed, not the delay itself.

Clavus

Youre doing fine bro! No stress

Jeremy Gascoine

I'm glad you are choosing to be safe from the heat and pandemic. Take care of yourself properly! Driving safely is important, and drowsy driving is as dangerous as drunk driving. Nobody wants you or the car to be working under unsafe conditions.

Maeve Victoria Roth

We understand! Congratulations on downing) completing another monster of an essay!

Morgan Blackwell

Your content is worth the wait man. Can't wait to dive into your latest video. Take care of yourself.

Dorian Sanchez

This must be extremely frustrating for you, my sympathies. I have no doubt the road trip and travel content will be wonderful once it happens! In the meantime, please consider taking a short rest? It’d be a shame for you to burn yourself out any more than you possibly already have. Take care of yourself out there!

Ian Campbell

No worries about the delay; stuff happens.

Toni DoVale

Noah, it's all good. I feel like we as your audience are quite the patient lot. Just keep doing your thing.

Kimmo Heikkinen

Congratulations on publishing the Bloodborne v Sekiro v Elden Ring video! And no worries about the travelogue hiccups, things will line up again.

Daniel Philips

Noah, half the joy in listening to your travel videos is hearing you grappling - and also triumphing - against the forces of entropy and the American Road itself. Now entropy ain't what it used to be, but I have faith in your process. We just want you to be able to make it home safely at the end of the trip.

Sylvia in Bloom

Tldr life happens. You guys take care.

Edward Clayton Andrew

Glad to hear you’re not rushing the travel and doing it when you feel as if you’ll get a good experience out of it. Doing it solely for content would be a way to rip out the spark of joy and exploration. I have complete trust you will do the right thing with whatever money comes from my patronage. I see it as crowdfunding an investment in YOU, who YOU ARE, not a transaction that promises I will end up with content. You’re being an artist, and that’s what the payment is for. Just be an artist in this world. It’s hard enough.

James Woodman
