More Project Juggling
Added 2022-06-29 12:17:20 +0000 UTCI feel absolutely awful saying this, but there will be more delays on the travel projects. I've finished the Bloodborne / Sekiro / Elden Ring video at last (https://youtu.be/hPRo4arGaSk), which is good news, and I got within 24 hours of leaving on my trip until some last minute mechanical problems grounded the car for another short while. The problem with this is that Nate, my audio editor, was going to come with and help with the project, but I've been asking him to push his time off from his day job just like I've been pushing this trip back and having to apologize to all of you. He simply can't do it anymore this season. And with the heat wave and the pandemic still going strong I'm concerned about taking on the whole thing solo. We've agreed to push it back until September-October.
I know this must be infuriating to some people, you've already paid for me to do this, you're sick of hearing about it, you want the travel content you were promised. I'm not giving up. But this is the hardest thing I've ever tried to coordinate and once I missed this last deadline of leaving today everything else about this attempt collapsed like a house of cards. This is, very specifically, what the refund system is all about-- if you've had it with waiting, I'll give you everything back you put in.
On the up side, this isn't the only thing I have going on. I've been juggling many large projects, and if one ball goes down, another comes up. There will be no gap in content. I will continue to create and upload video game videos over the rest of the summer. I know this isn't what I promised or what people necessarily want, but there *will* be absolutely no downtime, I'm leaping directly into a replacement project that I hope will tide everyone over while I gear up for another attempt at actually getting on the road. It has NEVER been this hard to start a travel project before, and I'm extremely ashamed to have had to delay it so many times. The only thing I'll say in my defense is that if I can pull it off and do it the way I'm trying to do it, it'll be unlike anything I've done before-- bigger, more intricate, more ambitious.
I hope you're all able to accept what I have for you in the meantime and are able to bear with me and have patience. Again, I know folks are probably sick of hearing about the travel projects and sicker of the delays, but I am trying my absolute utmost to make them happen.

No matter what we say he will still feel that way because he is clearly a very concensus person. Which is what makes his insights so unique compare to the other ego jammin "this is how it is" folks on the internet. I don't fret, but I'm sure even if everyone here said it's cool and he knew it for sure, he would still feel the need to explain and apologize. I am kind of the same way. Granted, I just found out that PayPal was not accepting my "Privacy" card I made for it anymore apparently and hasn't been making the donations for a few months

I'm sure you know your fanbase on YouTube really well but we aren't them, and you seem to really not know us. Every time you do this we tell you to chill. If you do it to ease your own conscience then fine I guess, but it looks more to me like self-flagellation. We don't need nor want that. Just let us know what you're working on every now and then and people here will be happy, just please stop prostrating yourself when you do, makes us feel bad for you instead. We just want you to be able to make your art, that's all.

That said, the ones you've done in the past were the only ones i actually enjoyed listening to. Every time i see you post a video, of any kind, i get a little hit of dopamine. So take your time, do what you need to do, and i at least will be right here waiting for the next masterpiece.

Whatever gets done is what gets done, and it'll be ready when it's ready. Time you spend on here wording your apologies and flagellating yourself with guilt would be much better spent on a fraction of a percent of your next project. Just do your thing and trust us to trust you.

Patreon is about ensuring artists have the ability to create what they want when they want. This isn't a retail transaction, it's about giving time and space to do interesting things. Produce what you want and give yourself the time you need. That's what will result in the best content.

You might be interested to know that the Japanese version of the original Dark Souls (maybe the later ones too, but I haven't played them) by default has an English voice track with Japanese subtitles, so, in a way, you're giving yourself the From Software experience that Japanese audiences were originally getting from the company.

I also really worry about your refund policy - how can you have a reliable and secure income if you have to anticipate large numbers of refund requests? Our way of showing disfavour with your output should be to remove our funding, not seeking compensation for the previous payments. It's amazing how things can just cascade out of control sometimes, and you look at the calendar and suddenly the project is off on the horizon again. But I also know that when the stars align it's going to be worth it, so I don't mind waiting. In some perverse way a troubled production schedule feels like a good omen for the finished work. The big disconnect I think is when you think that we've "paid" for you to do these travel content and videos. I mean, maybe I speak for myself but I've just been *giving* money to hope that you can spend more time doing things you *enjoy*. The moment these videos feel more like an obligation than like something you have fun doing is going to be a sad day.

I've seen plenty of content creators drive themselves into a burnout because they feel pressured to keep the flow of content going. I think the only thing that really annoys an audience is when you simply stop informing them why things get delayed, not the delay itself.
