Idiot Abroad Uncut EP 4

You should definitely watch/ react to “Meet Karl Pilkington”, “Learn English with Ricky Gervais” and/ or check out The Ricky Gervais Show for some more hilarious insight into the mind of Karl

Maddy

Addressing your thoughts on Karl’s identity and thought processes, Ricky and Steve originally met Karl as a producer on a radio show they did in London. He just pressed buttons and did behind the scenes. Eventually they started talking to him and getting to know him. His parents and childhood were very…. Unique. He didn’t go to school much and when he did he didn’t really pay attention or invest himself too much. His dad traveled a lot to neighboring cities and countries (like a 15 minute drive in the UK) for work and would take him and his mom with him so he missed large chunks of early education. He never got out of town as an adult and got cultural experience in the world, nor educated himself besides what he needed to know to hold a job and have a good life in Manchester. Upon the big break of popularity and access to the internet in the early 2000’s, Karl would spend enormous amounts of time online reading and believing any article he came across from chimps getting married, chimps robbing banks, alien abductions ect basically any clickbait April fools article online he took as truth and ran with. Excited to share with Ricky and Steve. They quickly realized his very unique and purely genuine ignorance and obliviousness to the world. Karl might say things that would be considered offensive, but coming from him they really arnt meant that way. He is genuinely just not informed about the world and has this childlike mentality and innocence that is hilarious to observe. Watching the Ricky Gervais show really gives you a better insight to how Karl thinks, as it was way before An Idiot Abroad and it’s just simply animated versions of their podcasts In which they picked his brain. Animated and turned into a show for those who don’t prefer podcasts or to better explain some of his insane takes
