The Wire Season 4 EP 1 & 2 Early Uncut Access

Season 4 is finally here! The Wire has been sitting at the throne for some of my favorite experiences in television and I can't wait to dive deeper into its story and characters. A difficult landscape with puddles having the depths of oceans.

I don't know if he invented SHEEEEEEEIIIIT, but I've never seen anybody do it that hard before or since.

Ken North

Hahaha very good point.

James Adams

To quote Tupac: ''Witnessin killings, leavin dead bodies in abandoned buildings Carries to children cause they're illin Addicted to killin and the appeal from the cap peelin Without feelin, but will they last or be blasted?'' He saw it all too, and sang about a lot of it. leaving bodies in abandoned buildings is especially haunting. Also, the important thing to note about Tony being rude to Tommy is that Tommy Carcetti used his friend to split the black voters in half, to give himself a chance. That was an underhanded and terrible thing to do to a friend. I fully understand why he told him to F off.

Legato

Thank you for sharing that experience. It now makes a lot of sense why in other tv shows and movies I've seen, there's a lack of traffic in some of the scenes.

Chaos T

Sheeeeeeit 😂

This season is so dense. No line is thrown out; they call back to at least other characters from previous episodes and seasons let alone the overarching themes of the whole show. To think of the payoff it takes to get to Herc walking in on the Mayor or Clay Davis getting his subpoena. How many characters did this show have?? And they are all amazing. And almost all real.

Zach Barber

Favorite season of The Wire.

Chaos T

You love the car scenes but having been there I cringe at the hassle it was controlling traffic. If you see a random car drive past it’s probably someone on production because we had to block the streets. The lack of traffic is one of the more unrealistic but necessary parts of the show.

Jonathan

Whew. Wow. This was a great callback! Thank you for remembering this!

James Adams

Absolutely correct.

James Adams

"Yo, this man got everybody bringing him leftovers?" I think the ladies want to bring Dennis a lot more than leftovers.

Kana Kawase

Imagine watching the first few episodes of The Wire and someone saying "Hey, see that total jackass Prez? One day you're gonna be so fucking happy to see him." Also, weirdly this version of Carcetti is probably my favourite. I've always been kind of bored with his journey in season three - oh yes, he's ambitious, does he actually want to help or is he out for himself, I get it - but snotty, whiny campaigning Carcetti is just really entertaining.

Breaking Bad is like a comic book story. A really good masterpiece of a comic book. But the wire is straight Shakespeare

YESSS, the wait is over! So excited for this season. There's tons of stuff that can be talked about in these two eps, but I'll stick to just a few things for the sake of not writing a whole novel in the comments lol. First is to sort of answer how you said they seem to get the realism so right. The biggest thing, I'd say, is that the showrunners themselves have lived experience with the subject matter. Specifically for this season, Ed Burns was a homicide detective in Baltimore that later became a public school teacher almost exactly like Prez did. It's great to see his story isn't over just yet, huh? Other thing I want to mention is some minor character easter eggs. In the scene where Randy gets his money taken by the cop, whose name is Walker, we've actually already seen him once before wayyy back in season 1. Officer Walker was there on the scene with a battering ram for the door when they came to arrest Avon at the club. Also, in that same scene, Walker has Randy give him (and the audience) his last name. I won't give away the answer, but it is a name that we've heard before somewhere.

Tom McTernan

Here's an extra assignment for you. Other than Wee-Bey and Namond, there is another connection between two characters in the show. The show will not acknowledge it outright but David Simon has confirmed the connection is real. See if you can figure it out.

Ingemar Svensson

One of the reasons this show has such an authentic feel is that between the writers and show creators they had years of experience working in the police department, school systems and as journalists in the Baltimore area. This show is closer to a journalistic documentary than just an entertainment piece of television

MrBooShoes

This is beautiful. He should share this quote as an intro to an upcoming episode. Really perceptive, it’s why we are here.

TES

"I feel like that's... Like, you can learn a lot from just how kids go to school and who's with them. And you know, you could tell by their book bag. You could tell by... It's, it's interesting. I think it says a lot about culture. It says a lot about environment. It says a lot about the love that is within that environment, despite whatever that environment might have. I don't know, man. Kids are important, bro." -James vs Cinema, The Wire Season 1 Episode 6 Uncut, 06:42 I've been waiting since September to tell you just how significant your statements were to this series back in Season 1, and Season 4 is finally here. Let's go!

James

It does feel like the show is pivoting to the story of the kids journey the closer we get to the end. Which is kinda smart because the main bulk of the story has already been told. Randy, Mike, Dookie. It's their story now.

Markus Burns

Hmm.....LETS DO THIS, OK?! BEST SEASON EVER? MAYBE!...i'm really excited, that's why i did the caps lock. WE'RE HERE BABY!

TES

LETS GOOOOOOOO

Bonney

Glad to be here!

James Adams

Welcome to the greatest season in the history of television
