If I remember correctly, he wanted the whole cast to do it as well but he was the only one willing to do it.

The idea, his idea, actually, was that in normal sitcoms the actors get work done and look more beautiful over time. That's not what happens in real life, people age, they get fat. That was the idea behind it, and my god, what commitment to the bit.
