Strange Days (1995) Nausicaä of the valley of the wind (1984)

DanielTheHamster

I put in 13 Assassins last time. It was always very low on the poll unfortunately.

Marvelous Dolcy

Matt

Welcome To The Dollhouse (1995) and Still Walking (2008)

kimsmk

Predestination (2014) and 13 Assassins (2010)

“Keep your recommendations to two”

Brittyn Lindsey

The Cell Very stylized and visceral sci-fi suspense movie. Vincent D'Onofrio plays a serial killer.

Cifer

Nick Parker

Rushmore!

Nick Parker

Rushmore (1998) and Unforgiven (1992)

Marvelous Dolcy

Raging Bull and John Wick

Jereme Curtiss

Boondocks saints

Stalker and deer hunter

I’ll keep on vouching for Climax (2018) as I think it’s an essential recently released film, but I also want to throw in Nashville (1975) as it is one of my personal all time faves.

Dark City - Proyas The Crow - Proyas

Justin J

Paths of Glory - yes yes yes!

George Inotowok

Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. All the best mate!

Layer cake, Dead man's shoes

Intouchable, one of the best films of the last decade. Just do it

Nick Sneddon

Starship Troopers

Brazil Tampopo Both are brilliant comedies from 1985. Brazil is by Terry Gilliam and is dark/dystopian and extremely creative in story, world and visuals. Tampopo is the best musing on food in a movie I know of but also an upbeat comedy. I do hope you will bring back Delicatessen though, also a very creative, dystopian comedy.

Paul Steffens

The Thin Red Line (1998) by Terrence Malick, one of the most influential American filmmakers still working that you haven't yet reacted to.

Grunwalski

ShortCuts is a great movie all the way around. Great recommendations👍

Bob Short

👍👍👍👍👍

Bob Short

Excalibur- hell yeah! I can still recite the Charm of Making, lol.

Bob Short

Cousins (1989) Notorious (1946) The first is an underrated gem and one of my favorite feel-good films. The second is a classic Hitchcock film starring Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant.

Bob Short

Layer Cake (2004) The King (2019) Both cracking films that are kinda underrated.

Sam JD

Cinema Paradiso 1988 & The Basketball Diaries 1995

Paths of glory Stanley Kubrick

James has already covered LA Confidential, but Blade Runner is a good movie (although I'd be surprised if he's not seen it).

Brett Coster

Gangs of New York

Nishant

Doctor Sleep (assuming you watch The Shining) The Mask of Zorro

Chickenelegs

Sunrise: A song of two humans (1927) by F W Murnau, a great movie at the end of the silent era that has very few title cards. It should show how to tell a story visually. Any other F W Murnau films would be great, too. Stalker (1979) Andrei Tarkovsky's best movie, but any of his others would also be great.

Brett Coster

-Almost Famous -Lost in Translation

Stranger Than Fiction is so unique and wonderful

Nick Parker

Lost in Translation is so good!

Nick Parker

Two movies from the same year: Sorcerer (1977) and House (1977). Sorcerer is one of the best, most tense, adventure movies ever made. House is a Japanese cult fantasy-horror, it's not really "scary", but really unique and inventive, a lot to talk about filmmaking-wise.

Vince

Deer Hunter, Canibal Holocaust, Team America, Meshes of the Afternoon, could name one hundred movies here you have not seen.

Ronin (1998) Action/thriller - Robert De Niro / Jean Reno - awesome movie. Not enough people talk about this film, also has one of the best car chases in a movie.

Annette (Leo carax movie coming to prime 08/20)… holy grail (terry gilliam)

Lynda Olson

Sami Blood & Midsommar

Son of Saul (2015) and Sing street (2016)

Sunshine (2007) - Another Danny Boyle film to follow on 28 Days Later

Zach Hall

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) Gallipoli (1981) - Another Peter Weir film to follow up Master and Commander

What Dreams May Come -- A treat for the eyes The Last Starfighter -- First CGI Movie and Robert Preston's last performance.

Bd Blake

Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) The Player (1992)

Yes to almost famous

Bringing out the dead is immensely underrated

WonderMedia

WonderMedia

The Night of the Hunter (1955) The Disaster Artist (Removed Only the Brave since that was recommended already above)

Brittyn Lindsey

Stranger Than Fiction Double Indemnity

Ken

The Towering Inferno (1974) Best Disaster film ever made stars Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astaire, William Holden, Robert Vaughan, Robert Wagner, Richard Chamberlain to just name a few. Also, the Cinematography in this is an absolute masterpiece, and it is one of the few disaster films that have been nominated for Best Picture. Highly recommend The Magnificent Seven (1960). I think you would love this film. It is a western, but it is adapted from the Samurai masterpiece, The Seven Samurai. I thought that would interest you in this adaptation. Great cast as well. Stars Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Eli Wallach, Robert Vaughan, Brad Dexter, and Horst Buchholz. Also, has one of the best film scores of all-time.

Cody Price

2001: A Space Oddysey

Scorcese's Bringing Out the Dead Fincher's The Game

ActionJeans

Two films: SLING BLADE (1996) Written and directed by Billy Bob Thornton who also stars in an unforgettable role. OPEN RANGE (2003) Directed by Kevin Costner, who also stars next to Robert Duvall. Good, underrated western.

Life of Pi and Captain Phillips

BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI 1957 ROMA 2018

Matt

Went on a cosmic horror binge earlier in the pandemic and discovered some excellent weird sci-fi/horror flicks. I'll recommend Primer (scientifically grounded time-travel mind-f*ck) and Banshee Chapter (feels like Lovecraft as related by Hunter S. Thomson). Neither are particularly well known but both made an impression.

Evan T. Smith

Hunt for Red October is extremely underrated. Doubt it will win a poll since it’s pretty unknown though

Such a great movie. James needs to see more Robert Redford films on the channel
