(Timeline Tuesday #218)
Copticks are a nuisance—an invasive species of vile parasite who arrived on our timeline with little more to offer than making things worse. The only good thing that one might say about copticks is that they somehow made mosquitos seem less annoying.
These creatures do not technically fall into any of our realities’ traditional categorizations, however they bear most similarities to invertebrates. Copticks are perfectly round with soft, bulbous bodies that span approximately three inches across. They are bright green, with four beady yellow eyes and a long blue tongue. These creatures sport a droopy head at the front of their body, and a strange, hard post protrudes from their top. It’s atop this post that their most unique feature appears.
Copticks have no arms, legs or wings, but manage to navigate the sky with the help of a four-pronged helicopter-like blade that spins and incredibly high speeds. This blade is made of cartilage, and is capable of carrying copticks around with great dexterity.
The lifecycle of a coptick is simple. From the moment they are born, this species what built to seek out blood. They accomplish this by hunting for sleeping targets, which they will float down to and then extend their long blue tongue. Once this appendage latches on, they will suck blood from a target, not enough to kill a human, but certainly enough to make them very sick. Once a coptick is full it will float away, spending about twenty hours to digest its meal and then returning the next day.
