(Timeline Tuesday #199)
Standing approximately nine feet tall and sporting a jaw of long, sharp teeth, bellowers are one of the most frightening timeline travelers one could have the misfortunate of running into on a dark, dreary night. The creatures are humanoid in appearance, with four long digits on each hand and foot. They are thin, with broad shoulders and a slight hunch. They are completely hairless. Bellower skin is a distinct shade of pale blue, and their eyes are yellow.
Along with their strange physicality, bellowers are also known for their particular fashion sense. They are always sharply dressed, usually in a suit that features a long dark coat and some kind of hat. Despite this, bellowers are always barefoot.
Bellowers are known for their haunting songs, which they sing at night. Their voices are deep and operatic, traveling far and wide as they make their rounds. Although they can speak the languages of our timeline, a bellower’s song does not have words or lyrics known to this reality.
The song of a bellower vibrates at a very specific timeline frequency, distorting reality and causing those who hear it to suffer from a state of mild confusion as the listener moves in and out of nearby timelines. These timelines are so close to ours that there are rarely any consequences in a practical sense, but the experience can be deeply unsettling. For instance, clothing that you thought was one color will suddenly be another. Maybe the furniture in your home appears to be rearranged, or people will suddenly be calling you by a different name.
After the bellower leaves, timelines will straighten out and return to normal, but those who encounter them will be left with a terrible feeling of unease.
Bellowers are mysterious in nature, and the motivation of their nightly strolls is not entirely understood. During the daylight hours they phase into another reality, only to return in the evening, and any attempts to question or capture a bellower have resulted in them simply escaping our timeline.
