Minnotes are a species from a nearby timeline who bear a striking resemblance to the fish of this reality. These creatures are pale blue in appearance, with several greenish spots running the length of their backs. They range from four inches to a foot long, and use multiple fins to propel themselves through freshwater lakes and streams.
This species mostly eats insects or invertebrates, hunting bugs that land on top of the water’s surface or crawl down in the muck. They spawn and follow a similar lifecycle to natural fish, but there is one thing that sets this unique species apart.
Despite their animal intelligence, minnotes are natural entertainers. Specifically, this creature loves to sing and dance, instinctually arranging various productions with other minnotes. All of this, despite their lack of complex language or communication.
Using their mouths and fins, minnotes will spend hours constructing little bow-ties and hats out of weeds, mud and algae, often in vibrant colors and matching with their fellow fish. Once prepared, they will sing in glorious harmony with one another, offering up beautiful performances to any of those who are lucky enough to catch one of these spontaneous natural productions. The songs of minnotes are lyricless, but impressively complex, and they remain consistent across an entire season. Eventually, when the seasons change, a group of minnotes will go back to the drawing board and begin their next production.
