Reminder for $50 and $100-tier patrons: Check your addresses!

Just a quick FYI -- since THE CITY WE BECAME comes out on March 24th in the US, I should be receiving my author copies sometime in the next month. As You Know, Patrons, those of you in the top 2 patronage tiers get a free signed copy of any new publications of mine. But every time I've done this, a few copies come back as "return to sender." Please check your addresses now, and correct them if there are problems!

Worldbuilding Lecture

This isn't really exclusive content, note; I give this talk at MFA programs, cons, and writing workshops, all the time (most recently at Sarah Lawrence college, as you can see). Which I guess I should do. Granted, 2018 was an amazing year for me, professionally. Hugo #3! NYT bestseller! I finished the first Cities book, for now titled THE CITY WE BECAME! I was guest editor for BEST AMERICAN SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY! I met Neil Gaiman and LeVar Burton! I got Magpie! All awesome stuff.

But 2018 took an immense toll, personally speaking. Belatedly ...

Fellow fantastic fantasy author Kate Elliott is visiting me! She's just blowing through town to do some Srs Author Bzns before she's off to World Fantasy. And Magpie luuuuuuurves her because she plays with him all the time. I suspect she might try to steal him when she leaves. Given that he was just chewing on the brand-new lamp I got from Ikea (after he broke the last lamp), I might let her.

Patreon's new tune

Hi folks. So, I've heard all over Twitter about Patreon's new fee structure. I'm still reading up on it and trying to wrap my head around it, but this article seems to be a good writeup on the basics... and the associated problems.

So at this point, all I'm going to say is -- I wish Patreon had chosen to take its fees from me rather than you guys.  They didn't tell us they were planning this ...

So you're blocked on Twitter...

Making a primary post about this, since not everyone sees comments. Because I use an autoblocker to reduce harassment on Twitter, it's easy for "friendlies" to get blocked.  The most common problem is if your account looks like the account of a newbie -- which harassers use during bombardment campaigns -- by having too few followers or not much of a posting history.  If you meet the autoblocker's criteria, then the first time you tweet anything at me, you'll get blocked.

Hi folks. IDK if you've seen my social media for a bit, but re my recent (patron-only) posts from Mom's, where I'd gone down to look after her affairs while she was in the hospital...  She did not get better. She passed away, peacefully, on March 9th. I stayed to handle the memorial and interment, and just got back to NYC. After nearly a month away, Ozzy is welcoming me back in proper fashion. Pay no attention to my swollen ankles, btw; happens every time I fly more than a couple of hours.<...
