(Timeline Tuesday #197)
Enerjorns are a fascinating species from a distant timeline, barely tethered to the rules of our reality yet establishing themselves as a favorite on this plane of existence. They defy the traditional categorizations that we use for carbon based lifeforms, built from a material that exists somewhere between matter and energy.
The creatures appear as a series of psychically interconnected disks that work together as a singular lifeforce. These disks range from one to fifteen inches across and often contain concentric rings of color, always in sets of four, as a five color Enerjorn has never been reported. These disks always face the same direction, so that someone viewing an enerjorn from the side would see it as flat.
Enerjorns communicate musically, using tones to convey emotion. The arrangement of these tones and scales can vary depending on the species that an enerjorn is communicating with. For instance, these creatures will use a minor scale to convey sadness to humans, but other humanoid species across other timelines will not associate sadness with a minor key. When communicating with dogs, their tones will become higher pitched.
Enerjorns can typically be found in warm, tropical places, their songs drifting across the land. They are notoriously rhythmic, always offering up a pulsing beat below their communications. This usually prompts folks who are nearby to dance, and the kinetic energy of these dances is what an enerjorn feeds on for sustenance. Because of this only the most keen enerjorn music makers survive.
