(Timeline Tuesday #163)
Centigreeds are a light green species of predatory arthropods with many similarities to the centipedes of our timeline. They have long, segmented bodies that stretch between six to twelve inches long, each segment featuring two legs and the final one sporting a large stinger. Their eyes are too small to see with the naked eye, but the head of a centipede is clearly marked with a symbol that appears to be that of the American dollar sign. These creatures also have a set of enormous, sharp mandibles.
This species is incredibly aggressive and competitive, especially with each other. They are known to steal food from their own kind and will always attack whoever or whatever they encounter. This phenomenon leads to very few centigreeds, and makes their species incredibly rare.
The chemical that causes this competitive nature in centigreeds also finds its way into their toxic sting. Humans who are pricked by the tail of a centigreed will find themselves struck by an uncontrollable, in satiable greed. This effect lasts for approximately one month if left untreated, which is more than enough for disastrous consequences. Due to the fact that centigreeds are, themselves, rare and valuable, those under centigreed influence will do anything to keep their valuable centigreed safe and cared for. Often, this means keeping their centigreed happy and allowing it to sting them.
Some effected by centigreed poison have found financial success due to their sudden maniacal greed, but the vast majority find themselves faced with terrible consequences, whether that means losing the respect of their loved ones, or going to jail for theft.
