GROAD - TIMELINE #2971001

(Timeline Tuesday #119)

Groads are a large amphibious species from a nearby timeline, similar in appearance to the natural frogs and toads of our reality. An adult groad is approximately three feet in length, not including their elongated legs. This animal is light green in coloration, with random spots and bumps of darker green that cover their body. An easy way to tell them apart from their natural amphibious cousins is the enormous mouth that stretches from one side of a groad’s head to the other. This gaping maw is covered with several sharp teeth, which jut out from a groad’s gums at haphazard lengths and angles.

The most notable thing about a groad, however, is the creatures smell. A groad’s terrible scent is constant, only muffled when the creature is entirely submerged in water. When the skin of a groan meets the air, however, it immediately gives off its extremely pungent aroma. Many describe the scent of a groad as similar to burning fumes or noxious chemicals, and it can make those with even the strongest constitution light-headed.

This stink is so potent that it has the power to incapacitate, or even stop the heart of small animals within five yards of a groad. If the field of stench is entered slowly this effect will not occur because prey will just leave, but if it arrives in a sudden burst then the results can be deadly. Therefore, most hunting groads will spend their time sitting just under the waterline, then emerge suddenly when a small creature comes near the water’s edge for a drink.
