(Timeline Tuesday #106)
Tallbones are enormous skeletal creatures with a mysterious nature, who only appear in hours of darkness to carry out their strange business. The creatures seem to defy traditional species classification, as they have no internal organs nor identifiable mating habits. It is believed the creature itself is not the bones that make up its physical form, but some kind of sentient energy telekinetically controlling these objects.
This species stands approximately 12 to 15 feet tall, with a hulking frame that seems to defy the skeletal nature of their head and hands. The rest of a tallbone body is wrapped in a long, dark grey cloak, which always has the same stitching and design across the entire species.
Tallbones are originally from a distant timeline cluster. This cluster surrounds the final station of the lonesome train, a place where the worlds of life and death are thin. The exact timeline tallbones hail from is unknown, but it appears their travel to our world is a direct route. In other words, tallbones cannot move between timelines at will, but wield a power that grant them travel between their home timeline and a reality of their choosing on a singular back and forth track.
This species does not communicate verbally, whether chattering their boney jaws nor opting for psychic connections. They do, however, emit a strong feeling of bittersweet melancholy. This feeling is not entirely bad, and while many are instantly driven away by the arrival of a tallbone, others will find themselves drawn to the creatures. Approaching a tallbone will prompt them to open their cloak, revealing a doorway to some kind of strange cosmic space, also known as a pocket timeline.
Those who have entered tallbone cloaks report experiencing several variations of their own death. However, none of these variations have yet to manifest in reality. The process takes approximately one hour, and when the subject exits their host tallbone they will often report a feeling of rejuvenation and gratitude towards their own life. It is believed this species feeds on gratitude as a form of sustenance.
