(Timeline Tuesday #86)
Diedrones are small creatures from a distant timeline, approximately half an inch across and perfectly cubed. They feature hard shells, exceptionally difficult to crack open and with no limbs or external organs. The only markings on a diedrone are a series of small dots to delineate numerical values for each side of the creature, measuring one through six. From the outside, diedrones are almost impossible to differentiate from the natural dice of our timeline.
These creatures congregate in large hives, usually digging underground or spanning through the inner walls of manmade structures. They maneuver about the world with the help of their innate psychic abilities, allowing them to harness timeline vibrations and create telekinetic movement. In effect, diedrones can slide across any surface, scaling sheer vertical walls and ceilings if needed. In times of distress, diedrones can also bounce and roll as a form of retreat.
Unlike most lifeforms, diedrones do not require food or oxygen. Instead, they consist on a very specific substance that appears on particularly rare timeline paths: luck. Because of this, diedrones are often found infesting casinos and card rooms. They have also been discovered at horse tracks, or in liquor stores that sell lottery tickets.
Diedrones will skuttle around scavenging for luck, which is a substance we have still not quite found the ability to observe or measure on this timeline. They carry the luck back to their hive, where it is shared communally amongst the diedrones. Diedrones are often seen as a nuisance, as they steal the good luck of others. Diedrone hives can be broken apart to harvest their luck, and this will often lead to the collapse of the colony.
