(Timeline Tuesday #84)
Ihoppos are sentient eyeballs, approximately a foot and a half in diameter and sporting two slender arms from either side of their spherical body. They are stark while, although a reddish hue can sometimes creep into the veins that crisscross their form and cluster on the creature’s back. The iris of ihoppos ranges in color, from blue to green to hazel to brown, matching the hue of a natural human eyeball. Their arms can also range in skin tone.
Ihoppos maneuver through the world by bouncing, creating muscular contractions that propel their bodies forward in a specific, rhythmic movement. Because of this, the base of their sphere is notably tougher than the rest of their body, developing a thick callus as the creature ages. In desperate situations, ihoppos are also capable of rolling end over end while picking up incredible speeds, but this technique is rare as it will bruise them and cause significant pain.
This species does not communicate vocally, as they have no mouth. Their mission is quite clear, however.
Ihoppos are dedicated to serving food and beverages to anyone they can, constantly seeking out folks to spoil with a hearty meal. The species does not need to consume food for itself, relying on photosynthesis from light within its pupil to gain energy. Instead, they will spend their days gathering supplies and cooking up delicious recipes. Once the food is completed, ihoppos will seek out any target they can find, presenting them with a freshly cooked meal.
On this surface this appears incredibly helpful, and in some situations it is, however this obsession of ihoppos comes with a few slight catches. First of all, they cannot discern who actually needs a meal, even with diligent instruction. Attempts to corral ihoppos into feeding the hungry have yielded mixed results, as they will often wander off and cook for other random people. If someone is already full, an ihoppo will still provide them a meal despite any amount of protesting or attempts at communication, resulting in several portions of wasted food.
