(Timeline Tuesday #51)
The platypus is a bizarre creature hailing from some distant unknown timeline, although its exact reality of origin is unknown. While some off-timeline species adhere to the basic expectations of our world, everything about the platypus flies in the face of common sense.
This semiaquatic creature is an egg-laying mammal featuring a paddle-like tail, which it uses to propel itself through the water much like the beaver of our own reality. Its body is long and sleek, covered in brown fur, and its feet are webbed to further help with aquatic travel. This bizarre creature also features a bill for a mouth, similar to that of a duck.
While strange, these creatures are also quite adorable. Don’t let their appearance fool you, however, as platypuses can be quite dangerous. This species is venomous, featuring a spur behind their hind feet which is directly connected to a venom-secreting gland. While this venom is not deadly to the humans who are unlucky enough to encounter it, it is incredibly painful and will cause swelling.
Under ultraviolet light Platypuses glow green and blue, which only adds to their mystery. Timeline scientists are still struggling to determine how this helps them function on their home reality.
