(Timeline Tuesday #25)
Stumpkins are sentient plants who bear a strong resemblance to animals, featuring several tentacle-like roots which they use to manipulate the world around them. The creatures range in coloration form tan to dark brown, and are covered in bark. The top of their heads are flat, and their bodies feature large faces with a wide mouth and two sunken nostril holes.
In many ways this species appears similar to the remains of a chopped tree, yet their body structure is completely natural. It is suspected their unique heads developed due to their time in clear-cut forests, a natural adaption to their environment. Like natural trees, you can tell the age of a stumpkin by the rings on its head.
Regardless of what timeline stumpkins are on, their motivation is largely the same. These creatures are staunch conservationists and environmentalists, supporting any and all causes that protect the plant world. They are not shy regarding their opinion of these subjects, frequently appearing on political programs or raising their voice at demonstrations or rallies. According to stumpkin culture, the blessing of sentience has given them an innate responsibility to speak for other plants who are not lucky enough to have a voice of their own.
Stumpkins are strict carnivores, but are not aggressive in nature and do not hunt their prey Instead, the creatures subsist mostly on raw burger meat or choice cuts from a butcher. However, the species is so strict in their pro-plant lifestyle that even beef can be seen as unethical consumption, since it is assumed the cow was raised on grass or feed. Because of this, a large portion of stumpkins only consume predatory fish or other carnivore wildlife.
