Happy New Year! (Tonda animation)

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to make this post to wish you all a very happy new year! And I once again like to thank you for all your support & enthusiasm for the project. It's just amazing, knowing that so many people enjoy this weird quirky space adventure :)

And I'm also still very excited about making this game. I feel truly lucky that I can work on this every day, and I can't wait to continue this project in 2023 again!

Talking about that...

Here is something I worked on this week - Hope you like it so far!

And below the slower version! In game this animation will have four speed levels, so you can also watch these in slow motion if you like :)

Well, till 2023!

All the best!

-Robin

Haha, no worries! I like talking about what I do, so I'm happy to answer any questions you might have :)

Robin

Thanks for the reply, Robin! I appreciate your patience with my curiousity. Be well!

Dacer

Hey Dacer! I did look up some references and studies the motions. But I made the maistake, not looking again when I animated the rope. I thought it wouldn't matter much how the rope would go around...but it turns out there is just one good way to do this - Well, lesson learned -I got to keep looking at my references till the very end :)

Robin

Thank you Arboris!

Robin

Thanks Oily, I think you are right! I took another good look and made a couple of fixes - and it looks much better now :)

Robin

In general the body should move opposite of the rope; rope goes down, body goes up, and vice versa, but there can be some delay as long as the jump happens before the rope reaches tthe bottom.

Lithocule

Thanks for the look, Robin! Does making an animation like this require looking at a lot of video sources for humans jumping rope? I ask because most of us instinctively know when a moving image of a human jumping rope looks authentic -- but if I had to animate that sort of motion from memory, I'm not sure I could get it right, even if I could draw. Cheers!

Dacer

A belated Happy new year to you too

Arboris

Thanks Florian! And you're right :) However, you won't see the feet in game, and so I didn't animate anything below her knees. But... it seems the timing of the rope is off in general, probably by 2 frames or so -so I do need to adjust something :) Luckily these are seperate parts and are easy to adjust, so I'll fix it right away! Thanks for thinking along! -Robin

Robin

I got ist, the rope ist passing under her feet, when she ist lowest. Are you gonna fix that?
