Hello everyone!

I just noticed that quite a few new patrons joined the project! Thank you!  Your support is really motivating!  (And it especially helps me to push on when things get a bit boring or difficult!)  So thanks, really! :)

About the image

And today, I'd like to show you a bit of my process. I tend to put quite a bit of thought and effort in everyting I make. Here you see the development of the Repair Bay background.

As an artist, I see it as my job to get 'the most readable' illustration possible. And that often means that I have to make a few changes along the way:

- I removed the ceiling lighting during the process. I felt that having a light below the ship would work better. It also helps to put more focus on the mechanical arms.

- Many parts (like the ship and hands) are seperated from the background, this is for animation.

-The first sketch had a more dynamic perspective, but this would complicate the animation of the arms, so I changed it.

-at first all rooms in the ship were 'futuristic white' (as in the first sketch)...but that way everything felt more or less the same. So I used a lot of color in the backgrounds, which helped to define the various areas in the ship.  It also gave the whole ship also a more cozy feeling, which I like ;)  (the medbay & spa are still mostly white).

Where will this image be used in the game?

At some point in the story, you need to repair a damaged spaceship (it's part of the overall plotline), and that's the pink ship you see here. The main problem is that the round, vault-like door on top is stuck because a meteor has hit it. To open it, Keen try to use the mechanical arms on the ceiling...well, yes, that will become quite a dubious situation :)

Well, I hope you enjoyed this update!

Then I'll get back on the Demo now...things are going well! 95% of the art is done and I putting it together is also progressing steadily :)

Till the next update then!

Thank you John! I generally try to limit the amout of layers I use (I flatten my progress, and continue by painting on the flattened layer). But I do keep the lines apart from the colour, that makes it just easier to adjust them & gives a cleaner result. So I generally end up with 2 layers per subject - and in this case that goes for every part in the scene that needs animation (so here I have 5 times 2 layers or something?).

Thanks :D and yeah, I've been balancing the look of the ship for a while, between boob & ship. Maybe it shifted a bit too much to ship...? But I'm glad you like it so far!

Ah nice work on the area, I wonder the amount of painting/psd layers were made on them?

It took me a while to realise that the ship has very interesting shape :D Great choice! Also, it's interesting to see the drawing process :)
