What are you reading?

What are you reading and has K-drama influenced your reading choices at all?

I’m currently reading The Warm Hands of Ghosts and can’t recommend more (author is Katherine Arden and probably my favorite)

I love a historical…but have been craving a paranormal atmospheric drama and this book is scratching the itch. Not quite paranormal. Maybe more speculative fiction with light paranormal elements ;)

Yeah, I want more dramas like that!

—————-

November 1917. Freddie Iven awakens after an explosion to find himself trapped in an overturned pillbox with a wounded enemy soldier, a German by the name of Hans Winter. Against all odds, the two form an alliance and succeed in clawing their way out. Unable to bear the thought of returning to the killing fields, especially on opposite sides, they take refuge with a mysterious man who seems to have the power to make the hellscape of the trenches disappear.

As shells rain down on Flanders and ghosts move among those yet living, Laura’s and Freddie’s deepest traumas are reawakened. Now they must decide whether their world is worth salvaging—or better left behind entirely.

My reading has dipped since KDramas took over my life! But I’ve always been a romance book fan so one of my joys about this space is the podcast keeps recommending me books that are in my wheelhouse. I’ve lived the whole sniffiness of romance so it’s so lovely to be in this space where not only is it not judged but it’s quite rightly seen that sniffiness is the patriarchy in action. Since I’ve had kids I really struggle to read more dense literature that I did before so romance (and crime, my other great love) has been the only genres I can cope with. I’m currently reading The Maid which am enjoying a lot, and I finished up Lia’s Mister Hockey which was really great fun!

Been reading a bit lately. The strangest and most enjoyable lately has been “Piranesi” by Susanna Clarke. There are also a couple of good rom-com books by Lily Chu: “The Stand-in” and “The Comeback.” “The Comeback” is definitely K-drama adjacent.
