Soul Mates: A Thing Or Tall Tale?

A common trope in both romance and K-drama (especially with paranormal or fantasy themes, but not always) are “fated mates.” Basically a mate chosen by “destiny” or “the universe” etc.

Fated mates are VERY popular but it makes me wonder how many of us IRL believe in the idea of soul mates…or not.

I don’t have a secret agenda here. Just doing the laundry and curious what you all have to say on the topic :)

I fully agree with Karen above. I think that there are many people who could fit this category in life. One of my more spiritual friends has explained a concept called "soul groups" to me. These, she says, are groups of souls that have played roles in others' lifetimes, but not all at once. The roles that individuals play within soul groups can be anything, from people who are difficult, people who are family or friends, or people who are romantic partners. She says that some of them waltz in and out of your individual lifetimes, while others will be permanent in a lifetime. The point here is that you're supposed to learn something particular from the individuals in your soul group in that particular lifetime. I like this concept. GIVE ME A GOOD FATED MATE STORY ANY TIME. I eat that stuff up like ice cream topped with Oreos and magic.

IRL I don’t believe in soul mates, but I do believe there are types of people with whom we are kindred spirits. And then it takes work to build depth of love. However I will take allllll the fated mates in dramas. That’s the magic of storytelling-you can make anything seem real.
