I think overall, the whole series took on something REALLY hard- intricate worldbuilding, a switch in lead actresses (yes same character but very tricky to pull off!), and did it really well. Agreed that I would have loved to have seen a badass Naksu, but I also think the show established that Naksu was yet another identity Yeong had projected on her, and she was cultivated to be. When Master Lee (?) went through all the names she'd gone by in the wedding scene, it definitely rang true for me that only now does she get to decide who she really wants to be. OH and also, Jang Uk can GET IT

2023-01-14 00:37:25 +0000 UTCI just finished the finale a few minutes ago, so still processing everything, but I think I’m falling in the “would have been fine if the show ended on ep 19” camp. Glad we got an HEA of course. And Jang Uk is everything. And there was the turtle. But I also missed badass Naksu. Going to have to sleep on this one.

2023-01-09 06:56:05 +0000 UTCWARNING: RANT AHEAD I may be the minority opinion here nothing worked for me except for Jung Uk. Plot was either barely there or poorly executed…did we really need a fire bird to tell the story about human greed for power?! It would have been tighter to keep the focus on the ice stone instead of introducing the fire bird as some new threat. Most of this season was filler but it was bad filler. Some of the scenes were so static that it felt like it was written for a stage performance. It felt they gave up on the writing and directing. Yes I disliked the amnesia plot that lasted 8 of the 10 episodes. But I disliked even more the pointless scenes outside of that especially the amount of lovey dovey exchanges between Park Jin and Kim Do Ju because it was excessive. And then the set up for their death was actually perfect with the callback to season 1 but then two scenes later, they are fine - there were no stakes in all of this. Naksu turned from a badass character to something unrecognizable- constant helpless vibes. I want a refund on Season 2. I still love Season 1 as a stand-alone.
