The Doctor by showing this average 19 year old girl, led a simple life like anyone else, the end of the world, the only place she knows and calls home, kinda baptises her with a cosmic perspective in a way that opens her mind to the vastness of the cosmos that the Doctor experiences all the time. As an episode I think it still holds up, despite the dated use of Britney Spears music.
