Wowie, a lot has happened since that last art box. I'm not one to typically share a lot of my personal life online, but I want to share where my mind has been at the past months. Me and my partner of many years split up at the end of 2020, and ever since then things have been a bit of a rollercoaster - a lot of hurt and sadness, compounded by an endless lockdown which has left me with a lot of time to think and reflect. Unpacking a relationship after it's over is really important to see where things went wrong and how you can grow from your mistakes - but now, 2 months and much unpacking later, I share what I think a lot of people are feeling right now - feeling stuck and frozen in limbo. It really feels like our lives are just passing us by. (which explains why my art has been so emo) In spite of this though, I'm optimistic about the future and happy I now have the space to live more in line with what's important to me. 

One great thing is that I feel more excited about art again. I've been sketching a lot more, pushing myself more with the illustrations I'm working on, and being a lot more mindful of what I'm doing with my art. For the longest time I had been feeling like there was a gap between my authentic (art) self and the art I was putting out there - but through investigating my taste and looking at my gallery a bit more critically (what pieces am I proud of? Why?) I'm now working on closing that gap. One great method I've been using is just stopping and asking myself why I like something every time I stumble upon artwork that really resonates with me, instead of just continuing to scroll without questioning it. I recommend trying this if you're also a bit unsure of where you're taking your art - it sounds simple, but a bit of mindfulness goes a really long way!

And that's all for now :) I'm going to start writing these little "term summaries" every month so you can get a bit more insight in what's happening behind the art. Thank you for being on this journey with me, as I continuously try to grow into the artist and person I want to be.
