Editable islands now on test server!
Added 2020-02-08 12:48:04 +0000 UTC
Update v0.63.0 comes with a preview to a very significant upcoming feature: building on islands!
This feature is an early work in progress and there are several things that still need to be done before it can be released to the public. So they will stay on the test server for quite a while until they're ready. But we'd like to see what you build on the test server and hear your feedback!
It's very important to note that everything is subject to change, and it is very likely that future updates will break your saved islands. So go nuts! But take screenshots of your finished builds if you want to keep them.
How it works:
- The Test server is available to Tier 2 and 3 supporters in the server list
- There is a toolbox on the island and the controls are the same as in the house
- Just like in the house, you can build together in a party
- Existing actions like "Save house" are now called "Save map" and can be used in both house and island respectively
- Commands like /savehouse now have a /savemap alias and will work both in house and on island as well
- House and island maps are separately saved, so you can have both a house map and an island map
Known issues:
- Building is only possible on the party island and house for now, not on the public ones
- Docks or boats can not be edited yet
- Multi-part objects such as big trees and fences can not be placed yet (but you can move and remove their pieces)
- You can place multiple "house" objects but they all lead to the same map (intended)
- If you leave a house you always spawn in the middle of the map regardless of your house location
- Placing tiles at the edge of the map will look cut off if you're zoomed out far enough
- Some objects such as water rocks are shown incorrectly when placed on certain tiles
- Snow tiles are named "Grass" right now
- The "Save map" etc actions still have a house icon, while they actually work for the island as well if you use them when you're on the island
There are some other things we want to do before the public release such as reworking the walls implementation and improving controls for placing walls and tiles to make it easier to place large amounts of them, among some other things.
Have fun everyone! We want to hear your feedback and see your builds! Don't forget to report bugs if you find any issues that aren't listed here.
