PURE ONYX - March 21, 2020 Inner Circle Release!
Added 2020-03-21 20:18:13 +0000 UTC
Hey guys,
We're at a good point to show off the new enemy -- the Splicer Runt, and I wanted to let the Inner Circle crew have a chance to check him out ahead of the April release. Just keep in mind his H attacks aren't in yet~

This release is built on the March 4 release, so there are still some significant bugs in it (check here for all the known issues). We have a heck of a lot of fixes inbound (potentially for the April release), once AltairPL and Mr. Kittyhawk merge their code branches back with the main one. More on that below -- but first..
NEWLY IDENTIFIED BUGS / ISSUES
Some of you reported these in the previous release, and we weren't able to replicate them *until* AltairPL tested it out on a 144 hz monitor. Turns out we have a few FPS / Vsync related bugs, and now that we have verified them we can begin working on them. If you have a 144 hz monitor (will be obvious because your FPS in the bottom left will probably be upwards of 100), try pressing F1 to change to VSync Mode 2 (also shown in the bottom left). This will change the FPS cap to half your monitor's maximum frequency. For now, the closer you are to 60 FPS, the better. Here are the issues we've identified:
- Enemies may not respawn or can even respawn dead when FPS is > 60. This one in specific may be caused by certain GFX card driver software settings.
- Power Attack "hold" sensitivity is greatly increased at FPS > 60
- Jump becomes very inconsistent (sometimes doesn't activate) when FPS > 60
- Higher frequency of enemies turning to broken zombies when Vsync is off / FPS is > 60.
- Removing FPS cap via drivers mid-game can cause issues.
CHANGES / FIXES FOR THIS RELEASE
With the above issues out of the way, here are the changes/fixes we've made for this release.
- Added Splicer Runt enemy (no H attacks yet)
- Added Panic ability for Runt (currently they have a chance to run away when Onyx is close -- later they will do it when certain events occur, such as an ally getting knocked down near them / gunfire / exploding barrel goes off near them)
- Splicer Thug's pants are no longer terribly mangled during H scenes
- Enemies *really* won't spawn out of bounds now.
- Splicer Thugs will no longer be frozen during their Idle stance
- Partial fix for enemies using the incorrect walk/run animations.
APRIL TEST RELEASE - AT A GLANCE
And here is a list of the changes/bug fixes we are going to try to have ready for the April release. A lot of these fixes are already fixed in AltairPL / Mr. Kittyhawk's code branches, but they will need thorough testing once we merge things.
- Improvements to the Splicer Thug H scene, including actual finishers.
- Adding liquid finisher FX
- Characters will no longer go to T-pose post H-scene
- Enemies can be stomped on again
- Improved H-attack hitboxes / range for the Splicer Thugs
- Enemies will no longer stop spawning or spawn dead
- H scene bystander enemies should no longer get stuck either eternally walking in-place or in the 'Getting Up' state when a struggle / H scene ends.
- Enemies will not eternally try to walk into Onyx due to her standing in their target destination or in their path.
- Onyx and enemies will no longer skip their Stand Up animations
- Onyx can no longer be H-grabbed while in the air during knockdown
- Enemies will no longer get up during their death animation to come watch an H scene
- All existing issues related to returning to the Main Menu or reloading the scene should be fixed
- Errant enemy danger / location icons should be fixed
- Enemies should no longer walk in place or hang in the air during fade-outs when the game changes scene.
- Enemies will be able to H-attack Onyx while she's knocked down again
- Onyx can now dash immediately after standing up, instead of instantly skidding.
- Enemies will not turn around to face Onyx while knocked down when she stomps on them.
- The loading bar will no longer flash strangely when the scene reloads
- No more debug renderer issues with recycled enemies
As a heads up, I'd prefer to wait until Mr. Kittyhawk and AltairPL are able to merge their fixes before pushing the April release out, but if one or both of them needs more time we can still go ahead with the updated H scene and whatever else I can get done.
