Pure Onyx - World Map Scene Preview!

PHEW.

So, after one last marathon push I was able to get the world map preview ready for you today.

I'm beyond pleased with how it's turned out *so far* -- this isn't the final artwork -- it's simply where I had to leave it in order to get the preview out, as I'll be getting back to the H content now that the H system is ready for testing.

The map might seem excessive, but this isn't all for show!  The world map scene plays a very big role in Pure Onyx's Mission Mode.

From it, you'll be able to view available missions, spawned events and side missions, engage in random encounters, and access your inventory/equipment/stats menus. 

Mission Mode revolves around a rogue-lite risk and reward system in which the player must leverage Onyx's exhaustion against the clock.  The more havoc Onyx can wreak on New Babylon's criminal underbelly in a short period of time, the better the rewards -- but as her exhaustion increases so does the chance she'll fall prey to their H attacks.  Travel, missions, and events cost time, and as in-game days pass in New Babylon, enemies grow stronger, but new missions and events become available as well (and with that, new enemies and H scenes), assuming Onyx doesn't lose all her lives.  When Onyx receives a very sloppy Game Over, Mission Mode starts anew at Day 1 -- but certain stats and elements of previous runs are maintained, making for what should be an exciting progression system.

Please bear in mind that the video is a preview only, and that the UI code has to be implemented still.

Great atmospheric concept. Looks modern and classic at the same time. Are you still sticking to early February release? Will this concept make it into this release?

The information shown in the mission window is one of the more underdeveloped parts of this. I like the boss idea, but I'd probably opt more for "there is a big baddie here, here are some hints". Like you mentioned about variety, a big goal for me is to make missions as flexible and unpredictable as possible. Not totally opaque so as to be frustrating, but not cookie cutter. "Oh shit" moments are what can lead to fun H scenarios :D.

The angle thing is my go-to composition for wide angle epic shots :D. There's actually a term for it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_angle I referenced a bunch of designs for the city. The part you're seeing has elements of GITS' Tokyo and FF15's Insomnia, There's another layer yet to be added (I showed concepts for it in the previous post) that sprawls out much further, which takes inspiration from Dredd's Mega City One and Neill Blomkamp's movies.

Mission Mode will have an RPG-style stats and equipment system :D. The first iteration of the equipment system won't have visual changes on Onyx, but it's something we've been planning for and designing her rig around since September. I absolutely want to experiment with body morphing -- it's certainly achievable with our setup.

That is mega impressive! I don't think the map is exaggerated; in fact, I think it was chosen very adequately ✅ I have neither felt constricted nor lost 🌍🌞 Apart from that, the background music builds up the atmosphere really well ️🎶 I am very excited about the progress and the love that is put into this project. I am really looking forward to the next content and Information 👏🏼

Mr. Kittyhawk got the H system to me yesterday :D. This will be the first chance I've had to thoroughly test the new features, and we'll likely have a round of adjustments to make. I also need to bring the H animations up to date for Onyx's latest rig (shown in the video above -- there's a lot more capability for motion with the hair + other jiggly bits that need utilizing). I'll know a lot more by the end of this week.

O_0 oh my this beat my expectation of a simple linear side scroll beatem up to a AA class game. Keep pushing this will certainly get attention got a question though I noticed the bra and undies icons on the sewers and other place places will there be clothing upgrades or costumes to collect that give helpful bonuses? I know that guns will be disposable but clothing upgrades or different costumes with different benefits ranging from melee increase to guns having 5% more ammo etc. Lastly will there be body morphing what I mean is if she ends up having too many H-scenes will her belly get bigger and certain monster make her pregers like in parasite city or sinisistar for example. not really important but 0.05 of Matm had that cut scene with the flesh father and I wonder if such content will be in Onyx as well?

Wait, there was a world map? Damn it, I spent the whole video staring at her ass... which looks amazing, by the way! I did manage to notice the two sample missions though, and I saw there was a Splicer captain in one of them. Will Splicer captains always be the big guy with the wrench weapon, or will there be multiple types of bosses for groups like that? I think it would be cool to not know what kind of boss you'll fight, like the big guy with the wrench, or an elite girl with a whip or something, or a smaller guy with some cybernetic parts. As a large group would have many different captains, it would be nice if they had a lot of variety. Maybe even random if that were possible. I also love the sound of the dark sewers full of gross monsters. I'd love to just toss her in there over and over again and see what Game Over screen I get each time. Oh, the pervy cruelty!

Damn, that looks fantastic! Super stylish! Love the panning effect combined with the angled overview! Was this completely off the top of your heads or did you draw inspiration from another source? Either way, looks great!
