The Incubus System Chapter 1112. Prove Yourself

The Incubus System Chapter 1112. Prove Yourself

I glanced at Puriel, who gave me a small nod of encouragement. Then I looked at Larry, who immediately raised his hands in surrender.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” he said, eyes wide. “I’m just a human, man. I’m not messing with dimensional cracks or creepy eyeball guardians.”

“Relax, Larry,” I said, though I couldn’t help but smirk a little. “No one’s asking you.”

Larry shot me a deadpan look. “Great. I can just stand here and watch while you all deal with that nightmare, right? Totally fine. Nothing stressful about that.”

“But since you heard all of this,” I continued, my tone turning serious, “you should be careful. You know how it is. Things could turn bad fast. Not all demons are my friends.”

Larry’s nervous grin faltered as he swallowed hard. “Got it. Be extra paranoid. Noted.”

I turned back to my parents, my brows furrowed. “So… does this mean I need to go back to the demon world and use my energy in… what’s that room called again? Dimensional something?”

“Dimensional room,” Lord Damon supplied, his tone clipped. “And yes, something like that.”

Lilieth added, “It’s the best solution we can come up with for now. Strengthening the energy flow at the border might delay whatever Beel and Zatan are trying to do.”

I let out a long breath, trying to process everything. “Right… sounds simple enough,” I muttered, though it was anything but.

Just as I was about to ask another question, a sudden wave of energy crackled through the air, making my skin tingle. Instinctively, I took a defensive stance, my heart pounding in my chest. The energy pulsed, thick and heavy, like something was forcing its way into our space.

Then, it appeared—a massive, glowing eye peeking through a shimmering hole in the air. Its eerie iris scanned the room, unblinking and unnerving. The Colossal Eye.

My pets immediately reacted, their instincts kicking in. Red growled low and menacing, his hackles rising. Shadow hissed, her fur standing on end. Rave let out a sharp caw, flapping his wings in agitation, while Buni bared his tiny fangs.

Larry, on the other hand, looked like he was two seconds away from either fainting or sprinting out of the room. His eyes were wide as saucers, and he clutched the sofa pillow like it was some sort of shield.

Meanwhile, my parents and Puriel, though still seated, were clearly on high alert. Their bodies were tense, ready to spring into action at any moment. Lord Damon’s eyes narrowed dangerously, his fingers twitching slightly as if itching to unleash a spell. Lilieth’s calm demeanor didn’t fool me—she was every bit as ready to attack. Puriel’s wings flared subtly, her gaze locked on the intruder with a mixture of wariness and determination.

And then there was me, sitting in the middle of all this chaos, smiling like an idiot.

“Good evening,” I said, my tone light but laced with a hint of sarcasm. “We were just talking about you. Is that why you decided to join us?”

The Colossal Eye blinked—or maybe it didn’t. Honestly, it was hard to tell with something that didn’t exactly have eyelids. Its voice echoed through the room, low and resonant, like a thousand whispers speaking in unison.

“I sensed my name. Curiosity compelled me.”

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. Of course, curiosity compelled it. Why wouldn’t a giant dimensional eyeball be nosy?

“Well, you’ve got great timing,” I said, keeping my tone casual even though every instinct screamed at me to be cautious. “We were just discussing the whole crack-in-the-capital situation. You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?”

The Eye remained silent for a moment, as if considering how much to reveal. Then, it spoke again.

“I am aware of the disturbance. It is… intriguing.”

“Intriguing?” I repeated, arching an eyebrow. “Yeah, I bet it is. But here’s the thing—if Beel and Zatan succeed, it’s not just going to be ‘intriguing.’ It’s going to be chaotic. And I’m guessing you wouldn’t want chaos messing up your border patrol gig.”

Larry, who had been slowly inching closer to me, whispered out of the corner of his mouth, “Did you just try to reason with a giant eyeball?”

“Shh,” I muttered, keeping my focus on the Eye.

Lord Damon, who had been quiet up until now, finally spoke, his voice cold and commanding. “We don’t care what intrigues you. If you’ve sided with those two, you’ve made a grave mistake.”

The Eye shifted slightly, its golden iris glowing brighter. “I have made no alliance. Yet.”

Puriel’s eyes narrowed. “Yet?”

“Their offer is… tempting. But your presence complicates matters.”

“Well, that’s reassuring,” I muttered under my breath.

Larry, still trying to process the sheer absurdity of the situation, blurted out, “So… you’re like a dimensional pervert and a mercenary?”

I shot him a warning look, but the damage was already done. Lord Damon’s lips twitched slightly, as if suppressing a grin, while Lilieth raised an eyebrow in mild amusement. Even Puriel looked like she was trying not to react.

The Colossal Eye, however, didn’t seem offended. If anything, it almost sounded amused when it spoke again. “I observe. I judge. And I act accordingly. If you wish to prevent calamity, prove to me that your side is worth supporting.”

I sighed. ‘Of course, it’s one of those ‘prove yourself’ deals.’ “Okay, fine. What do you want us to do? Fight you? Solve a riddle? Perform a musical number?”

Larry coughed. “Please don’t say musical numbers. I can’t sing under pressure.”

“Demonstrate your strength,” the Eye said simply. “If you can convince me that you are capable of stopping the crack, I will consider aiding you.”

Lord Damon’s eyes gleamed with a dangerous light. “You want a demonstration? Very well.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” I said quickly, holding up my hands. “Let’s not jump straight to blowing up the room, okay? Maybe we can—”

Before I could finish, Lord Damon’s aura flared, dark and powerful, filling the room with an oppressive energy. The Colossal Eye pulsed in response, its iris glowing even brighter.

“Dad!” I hissed. “Chill!”
