sadness - paseábamos por el río

some of you might know already, but I will repeat: there's a lot of unused music from 2015, and some songs from that time never officially released beyond maybe a youtube video (which for violating TOS were taken down). I decided a while ago I wanted to release a compilation of these 2015 songs, finish the ones that were left incomplete. (I'm also doing this for 2014 songs and 2013 songs). this "old songs 2015" compilation has 16 songs, and include several songs already posted here on patreon, and this is one of them. i made the instrumental on october 10 2015, when my friend and I had the idea of starting a brand new project "kaskaskia". clearly this has nothing to do with the kaskaskia songs I made in 2018, but this was the idea at first I suppose. after that this song had just been sitting around for years until literally yesterday when I finally put some vocals on it. I grabbed the lyrics from a post I wrote on facebook once. I'll reiterate: if you follow my personal facebook you'll notice that I like to write a lot of what I call "thought diaries". these are just whatever abstract thoughts and feelings might be coming to my head in that moment, and a simple streamline way to express them at the convenience of my phone and social media. I've done this for years and have countless things written that at one point I decided I wanted to take these and build actual songs around them. beyond just words these things have a genuine sentiment and imagery behind them, sounds and feelings, and have every capacity to embody more than just text. I also feel like there's so much more potential in these things and so much more to be expressed sometimes that I want to fully realize them.

Paseábamos por el río, contando, son números verdes como del árbol, el agua corría lentamente , y a lo largo de todo el río su inicio no sé, momentos eternos, iniciamos ahí

we pathed along the river, telling, they’re green numbers like trees, the water ran slowly, and throughout the whole river i don’t know its origin, perennial moments, we started there

the original thought diary is the spanish version, I wrote it english for the actual vocal perfomance because I don't like harsh vocals in spanish. I felt like these lyrics fit the song because when we started the idea for Kaskaskia we wanted it to elude to simplistic beauties in nature, like rivers in our local forests (kaskaskia is literally the name of a river in illinois), and in this lyrics I'm talking about pathing along a river. what I recall talking about in the lyrics is imagining being in the presence of comforting company, one person, and the capacity to share pathwalks with them, along the river telling thoughts and stories.
