Warlock 3: Plan and Expectations

tl;dr - Expect preview chapters starting in April. February and March will see some short works here on Patreon.

Alright, so first ... thank you. Again. If you're on your third or fourth thank you from me, get used to it. It's been a wild four months, exceeding everything I could have asked for with both Warlock 1 & 2.

Warlock 3 is currently at 59k words of an expected 140k (1 & 2 were both 140k), so a third or so done. However, I don't write linearly, so this is split between the beginning and the end. It's kind of how I write these days -- I know how something starts and I know generally how it's going to end, but how we get there? No fucking idea.

The catch in that for preview chapters is that even though I have 15 or so of the first chapters written, things usually happen in the middle that need some setup earlier, or I have an idea that fits in the beginning, or etc. -- then things sometimes change significantly.

More than 15, really, because some of them are several thousand words and need to be split. I generally target 1000-2000 words per chapter to keep things snappy.

My current words-complete target is April 1st, which should be good with two months at 2k words a day. My original target was March 1st, but January was a crap month for writing. With three releases and a ton of business tasks to complete, my attention was elsewhere.

I'm planning POV shorts for February, which will be Mel's POV on meeting Noah, and March, which will be a Cassandra POV, but I'm not sure which scene that will be.

Now, I hope to bring that schedule in. If I'm confident chapters are solid and not likely to change, then I'll start posting earlier.

Found W1 last week and just finished W2 now. OMFG they are brilliant and I couldn't put them down. Guess I'll have to re-read them until W3 comes out.

Cassandra was gonna be involved if you picked up the setup in book 1. I didn't think she'd be number 2 though. I like how it happened. I'd like to think that this opens up some sort of alliance type relationship with the witches and vampires now that Jennipher was involved with what happened. There is so much potential with the direction these books could go, I'm hooked.

Really enjoyed the first 2 books. Was expecting something simple but it was way better than expected and I really like the characters and world building

Look to Cassandra’s resonants, along with her comment “I hate bullies too.” In the Families compelled mana economy from interwoven covens, the tangible despair turns the situation into a redemption arc when “the feral” triumphs and the maiden freed.

Please! More books on Warlock! I'd buy 12! Already read 1 and 2 on Kindle Unlimited AND Purchased the paperback versions to put on my shelf to read (again and again).

Did not realize JA S was the same person. Absolutely love the Warlock series. As I posted already on BookNotification I can't wait for # 3 (and hopefully many more Warlock books after that). The tasks for the Goddess(es) are still waiting to be fulfilled! Just Thank you for an awesome story!

I was doing the rereads for the KU bots before buying #2. And I know I am late with this but I didn't want it to slip into my review because #2 was fantastic. But did it have to be Cassandra?? Couldn't have been just the vampire maybe? The Junior Wyverns thing was so incredibly cruel and targeted planed-out maliciousness and could've tainted something Rachel cherished. There seemed to be hate in that act. That took her from generic bully to vile individual. Now that she is part of the books going forward, it lessens the desire to read them. Still gonna, all 15, this is definitely one of the better "Why Choose" series recently.

Loved warlock and W2, can't wait for 3 to see Rachel join the coven. Your characters are so well done. Great Job.

Listened to warlock first week of feb, read Warlock 2 at weekend, on Warlock again. Really enjoying it's balance with MC being special but not overtly The Special One, that he is powerful without being OP, and the characterisation of the girls are more believable and human than any others in the genre. I felt for Rachel in the spell stick prank, and was actually choked up with Katrina. Note for book 3- reference Noah's dig to Cassandra about being bottom of the list for the only guy and lesbian, as it's a golden callback I think Sam would use.

I believe they're recording it now - Audible being what it is, I'd expect release sometime in March.

Sadly I cannot afford more than free membership right now, but as I am getting the books in both Kindle and Audible format, I hope I am doing my bit. Warlock 2 was finished by 9PM the day it was released (it releases at 8am UK time for reference). Now I am inching for 3. Please don't let Noah's control elements take over, and keep some of the kind innocence he has. Far two many books turn what starts out as a nice, caring character in to an Alpha Chad 5000 by the time he has a few girls. Do you know if Warlock 2 is headed to Audible yet?

Bryan Wallbridge

Do you have other published works? Nothing shows up on Amazon.

Would love to see a POV of the abduction from Mel/Sam perspective. That's an emotional roller coaster that will drag you along.

JimBo

60% thru W2....really enjoying it. Ty...

Rigger

W2 is fantastic, can’t wait to figure out what happens next, story is building up to hopefully a heck of a payoff on felicity and Morgan. Can’t wait for that. We have like so many more girls to go until the coven’s complete lol, will you speed that up or are you planning on like a 12 book run?

Patrick St. Pierre

Just re-read W2. New to forum, so never saw the previews before publication.Very well done with plot line and twists. Take your time with W3 to get it right. Consider this as much of a detective/mystery novel as everything else, as good mysteries require similar development cycles.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Take your time. I really enjoy your work. Just keep up the good quality, that's all I ask. Warlock 1 was like a breath of fresh air when I stumbled over it. Inhaled the whole thing in a few hours. Got the audiobook right after ^^

Lukas

"My current words-complete target is April 1st" Hmm, you will be targeting April Fool's Day, huh? I don't know if I should be Impressed or Skeptical.

Jesse

I did. And I’m still a member until February 27th. I’m pretty broke right now so my entertainment budget has to be trimmed, Nothing against you. Love the Warlock series and will buy the audiobooks with credits when I can afford it.

Vorsayo

Stick in the free tier so you get post notifications - things might start early. :)

Daniel Kensington

I’ll resubscribe in April then. Thanks for the update.

But, but, but, the envelope?!?! Thanks for the update.
