Warlock 2 - Preview

I'll see what we can do. :)

Daniel Kensington

Agreed. And hope she becomes part of story on good side.

Really agree with Jesse's points on (1), there are so few Trinitara Warlocks, and the families do ruin the warlocks - suspect that for the other Trinitaras it was even worse - say marking the day after coming into their powers by a much more senior witch. But I think there is another factor - an assumption of the families about ferals - it was kind of implied that by now all the most resent ferals brought into witch society had their lines muddled - and completely untrained, Noah, however, is of a clear line, has been trained, and, oh yeah, has had his resonents stretched - and managed to become a man, not just a guy...likely some strong role models some where in his time as a foster. None of the girls at that school have a chance, and their mothers, having nothing else but family warlocks and their idea of Ferals to guide them have no clue. But i think your right about Grandma Winthrop!

What do rituals actually do? I think, it is written nowhere even tho it is a big argument for family covens and mana production

Is there any chance of getting concept art of the Witch that served Noah with papers? I was rather intrigued with her description.

Jesse

Some thoughts about them 1) I think they are too rare, and most stories are just myths at this point. Also, the Teacher mentioning this isn't highly thought of by the Families based on the Prima mentioning she had a hard time getting approval to have her at the college. There is also the conditioning the Witches are putting the Warlocks thru. They have ruined them intentionally. There doesn't seem to be any respect for any warlock aside from Noah. None of the girls even mention their fathers and each of the Young Witches that are bound for a Coven give a clear impression they don't think much of their Warlock-to-be. 3) Save the Oath for the Council fight. This was just the opening move to try and remove Willowmere and the Prima from the picture. 4) Initially he was just a feral that the Blackwood happened upon. They likely thought nothing of him since The Blackwood didn't mark him already. With him voluntarily sitting at the "Onesie" table likely had most of them thinking at first he was a Onesie too. As most of the families begin to realize their mistake, they have upped the pressure on their daughters to get Noah. I don't expect the Blackwood legacy to remain a secret much longer given the attention falling on Noah. I imagine the truly astute Witches like Grandma Winthrop already suspect it.

Jesse

I really liked the book. I still wish he'd marked her breast rather than her neck. The cliffhangers are killers.

John Temple

Okay, now that I’ve finished I can say I loved almost everything about this book, I do think Nooope brought up some good points though. Also, that ending! How you gonna leave us on such a cliffhanger 😝

Vorsayo

There was two chapter 52s? I liked them both equally tbh, and after that the chapters had no number. It was just chapter. I hope you make both chapter 52s into the story to be honest. Good book, but I'm still a little sour you made Morgan a witch. 9/10

My thoughts about your points: 1) I think Mel knows more about Trinitara. The other aren`t trained and are more willing to get marked based on there upbringing. And Cass told, that they bind the warlock and got rituals. 2) I hope we will see more 3) The oaht would let the Prima look foolish and give away the intent to Mark Rachel in the summer. 4) My understanding is that only a small group knows, that Noah is living at Mel´s home and how he got to the school. Noah told Sam many thinks about his relationship to Mel, before she came up with the Legacy. 5) I hope we get more classes. But I think its like Harry Potter, few examples and then they can do magic. 6) I hope he edit this. Only explination is that he forget his powers becaus its new....

Thank you for the drop! Tied things up nicely. Now got to wait for number 3 :-)

Fantastic. I was sitting here reading with the cold wind and sleet hitting the windows. It made for a seriously cozy atmosphere. Can't wait for the audio version too. I really liked the performances on the first one. And of course, really looking forward to some chapters from the next book. Keep up the great work!

Hugh Sweeten

Thanks for the chapters!

Vorsayo

Thanks for the chapters! What a great way to start out the day. I also can't wait to get my hands on the full book and the audiobook!

Mitch Rosenlund

Chris M.

Fantastic! Looking forward to reading the finished book. Can’t wait for more of this world and these characters.

Just some notes from my readthrough of the whole thing, take them for whatever they're worth (possibly nothing): 1) Mel says early on that it's nearly impossible to mark a Trinitara warlock - are they so rare that the other families aren't aware of this? Is it Mel-knowledge, or are the families so used to their homegrown (and presumably conditioned) warlocks that they don't quite get that it's unlikely they'll succeed in the marking they're after? 2) We've had a lot of talk of shields and layering shields and merging them and shield practice and whatnot, but it's never actually come up as a plot point in the critical parts. It feels like a Chekov's gun waiting to happen at some point. 2a, I guess: Cassandra's shields are noted as being "so much" stronger? Is that a consequence of the third resonant, or some resonant store stretching? It's almost a throwaway line, but feels significant, but unexplained. 3) How does Noah's oath not come up in the disciplinary hearing, that feels like a get out of jail free card. Not smited, therefore justified. 4) Sam put together the Blackwood legacy thing on remarkably few clues early in book 1, why are all the worldly politicking Family representatives so able to completely miss it? 5) I feel like there's some interactions and class things from earlier in the book that could be alternatively filled out and trimmed. Aside from the extra homework in Magistra Hawke's class, Rituals and Magistra Cassian, and Magistra Fallowell's class (History? I barely even remember it) classes are only barely mentioned at all, there's very little indication of how Noah is actually doing in classes, or what he might be learning. So far it feels like not much, considering how little magic he's shown to do. 6) Shouldn't lugging things up the stairs be trivial for Noah now? Strength Affinity and all? Feels like that should be part of his internal monologue during the furniture discussion. This shouldn't be taken to mean I didn't enjoy the previews (I did), and I know they haven't had their editing pass yet, just some of the things that stood out to me. Thanks again for the ARCs :)

Nooope

I can't waaaaaaait for the finished books 2 and 3.... Amazing storytelling and the dynamics are so good!

Christian Klein

Awesome! Excited to see what happens next

darthcrouch

So.fooken.good. Can't wait for the whole thing together so I can binge it all at once!

You know, the reaction of Cassandra's mom makes me think Carla Hearst (Priscilla's mom) isn't so bad after all. By comparison. And damning with faint praise. At least she said "if my daughter somehow fails to mark you, we won't hold any ill will, and would still be happy to find a place for you in the family".

Nooope

Sorry that's a scene I added after earlier preview. I'll pull it out and post for context when I get home.

Daniel Kensington

I think I'm missing things. This part "Had Sara told her family about the sauna and me ignoring her while Sam … looked?" I have absolutely have no recollection of.

Apoca

Very good ending! I'll be honest, I wasn't thrilled with the direction book 2 was heading even 10 chapters ago, and yet somehow you've tied things up very nicely. I'm looking forward to book 3!

ElJako98

50- Epiloge. So the end of book 2.

Is this the full thing?
