I try to keep my work positive and light hearted but I do care a lot about larger issues. Like how humanity treats farm animals and how that industry is a huge source of pollution. It is hard to make appealing images without getting too preachy. I like this though. It's communicating my love for nature, animals in general and in this case farm animals specifically, as well as my love for the female form.
I actually turned vegetarian not too long ago while I would not have believed I would, just a couple of years ago. My daughters put me up to it and educated me, and to get reminded on a daily basis I started following instagram accounts like sisurefuge, happilyheiferafter and moustache_farmer who show how unique and adorable every individual animal actually is. I keep chickens myself and a dog and a cat (all rescued) without them needing to produce anything, so it was not a huge step to regard and respect other animals as well without looking at them as a food source. It was just a matter of time before I put it in a painting but without ignoring my favourite subject.
