Special Card Flipping
What is Special Card Flipping?
Special Card Flipping is the whole concept of “Buy low, sell high” in an ideal short time.
To be a bit more detailed, it’s the idea of flipping out of packs special cards which fluctuate throughout the day. On a normal market, the supply and demand aren’t always even and cards go up and down a lot especially as these aren’t in packs anymore and the main supply comes through the player base. We aim to find these cards and use the profitable area to make quick coins.
In this case “buy low, sell high” just means finding the cards at a low point and aiming to sell them at a high point.
Many compare it with sniping, but there are key differences. The main difference compared to sniping is filtering through multiple cards and changing the card after 1-2 search attempts. On good days I used to check the market like 200-300 times. While sniping means sitting on one specific card for a longer time and looking to find a low listing.
How to identify good flipping cards?
Price
I love flipping cards between 50k and 450k. Almost throughout the whole year, you can find deals around these prices, and cards seem to have enough supply to move up and down, but also enough demand to hold a consistent price. On top of that, the tax is low and the return is great!
Rarity
There are many reasons why a card could be rare: low supply in general, released on an early stage of FIFA, was in packs for a short time, and many more reasons. The rarer the card, the greater the price fluctuations! That’s also why we stick with out-of-pack special cards as they are already rare and don’t get supplied at the current market.
Popularity
Popular cards sell faster and you can see some solid fluctuation usually. That’s why some Traders just focus on popular cards! Less popular cards usually have higher fluctuation (like super lows and super highs) but they are also tougher to buy and sell. If you are new to flipping special cards, I recommend sticking with the popular cards.
Consistency
This is probably the most important thing here, consistency! Finding cards with consistent ups and downs based on the Futbin graphs are perfect for flipping.
You don’t try to flip a card that had 1 big spike or 1 big low, these usually don’t repeat over the next 24h/48h and you keep wasting time. 3-6 lows and highs over the last 24h are usually good indicators, aim to find these and work with them!
Examples of possible flips
Bernardo Silva MOTM - SEE IMAGE 1 ATTACHMENT
This graph shows a tiny downtrend after 6 pm although the content did not change anything on the market. In other cases, it could affect card prices so make sure to double check if a card recently got hurt by the released content
This is an example of a possible flip. Bernardo Silva's MOTM card is selling around 75k usually, but peaks over 80k and had 2 low points around the 70k mark.
So… Buying this card at 71k and selling at 83k (just a tiny bit lower to make sure it sells) = ~8k Profit / over 10% return
Salah UCL MOTM - SEE IMAGE 2 ATTACHMENT
A bit expensive but showing that the price limits are just recommendations from my side and that there are no limits!
Buying Salah at 500k and selling like 550k to 560k turns out to be around 30k profit. Less ROI with just above 5% but you can spend a higher budget faster across the market.
Roussillon TOTS - SEE IMAGE 3 ATTACHMENT
If your flipping window is smaller and you have to make quick flips, you can go a bit lower than the high point and get a faster sale.
Buying at 86k and selling at 95k for a fast flip can also work and give a solid 5k profit and the same ROI as Salah.
Aubameyang IF - SEE IMAGE 4 ATTACHMENT
An example for a flip with a rarer card and less demand. It still works but as you can see, it's not as trivial as the other 3 examples. It takes a bit of experience to pinpoint the right buy and selling times. Another good indicator of his rarity is the high overnights!
Buying him for around 220k and selling around 260k is a super solid 25k profit per card!
After getting an idea and feeling what a card is selling for and when to buy, you can do flips even without Futbin on a holding market! It's also recommended to not hold cards past 6 pm, any new content can hurt your flips and make you lose coins.
How to sell flips?
I usually list my cards straight after buying. Listing straight after buying gets you the bonus of a lazy buyer and you don’t forget to sell the card because it's stored somewhere in your club.
When I go to sleep or for the last listing, I put them on 6h or 12h for the night. That allows you to sell a card while sleeping. Sometimes cards catch a very high peak because nobody lists a card during the EU nights, that’s why I always list for overnights! Don’t forget to change it back to 1h the next morning before hitting the relist button!
Also, make sure you are convinced with your selling price! Don’t panic if someone is undercutting you, but also don’t believe in a stronger rebound after a bigger drop. If you are not sure if the market changed, you can also ask us for some help and we will look at it together.
Keep these things in your mind while selling and it should help you get more and faster profit!
Bonus Tips
6pm Content
We get almost daily new content at 6 pm and that can change the market. I recommend selling your cards throughout the day and don’t hold too many cards through 6 pm. There's no need to sell everything before 6 pm but if you can reduce some risk it's recommended to do so.
Market check
Check the card on the market every time! Futbin is never 100% accurate with the prices and it's worth checking it on the market, you could get lucky and find cards at a low point even without Futbin recording it!
WL sell-offs
The special card market usually has a smaller dip around the end of the weekend. If you are new to flipping and not sure if a card is working out or not, getting on the stuff during these days is usually better since they should rise on throughout the next few days again. But be careful, holding a card for multiple days brings the risk of a drop from any new content!
Also worth mentioning, this is based on FIFA 22 and earlier FIFA Titles, keep an eye on the daily update in case this changes for FIFA 23.
Overnights
If you are listing for the night, it’s very important to check the other overnight listings! If you see multiple cards below your target price listed it’s likely not hitting your selling price. These other overnight listings must sell before yours is selling and that’s quite tricky during the night. On top, everyone is going to list below these other overnight listings as they aim to sell cards too. If a card has only one overnight, it’s very likely to hit a higher price, but it’s not a guarantee! Any overnight listing above your target price is not important to us.
Tech Avion
I don’t apply any chemistry styles on my cards, but if I get a card with hunter or shadow, I list it a bit higher. It’s not Tech Avion like we know, but it’s the same idea of people paying more for a card with the chemistry style applied!
Bidding
You can also go on open bids and try to get cards at a good price! It doesn’t hurt doing it since you are already checking the card and maybe get lucky with a cheap price.
Icons
Icons are almost the same as the normal special cards, most of the ideas and concepts apply to icons too! We will talk more about Icons soon but this is the base for Icon Flipping.
Practice makes perfect
This trading method is not the easiest to explain and also not the easiest to master, but my best advice is to practice! You obviously can’t learn it in a single day, it takes some time and effort!
Summary
- Aim for consistent lows and highs
- Avoid holding past 6 pm
- Always check the market
- Practice as much as you can
