Canon [Kacchan Bday 2025]

Dude have you seen this? Someone's been having fun with the editing apps lmao

Dude have you seen this? Someone's been having fun with the editing apps lmao

Katsuki frowned slightly, tapping on the link to open it. He really shouldn’t have, considering Denki’s history with link-sending and catching people out with shit they didn’t want to see, but he couldn’t quite resist the cryptic words. When the page loaded, though, he couldn’t decide if he was incredibly grateful, or regretted every decision he’d ever made in his entire life.

Deku and Dynamight: More Than Just Teammates?

The stupid, shitty headline was followed by a slightly out of focus photo, snapped by some asshole fan and apparently posted to every social media site that had ever existed. Katsuki wasn’t someone who checked his work accounts off the clock, if at all, but he knew his work phone had to be absolutely blowing up with the tags and mentions, somewhere in a desk drawer at his agency.

The stupid photo, despite Denki’s assumptions, was all too real. Izuku had been so excited about the idea of taking him out for a special birthday brunch at a new cafe that had opened up near their home, and Katsuki had been powerless to resist him. Neither of them had ever stopped to think that some random, stupid fan might stop and take a photo of them without even saying hello.

Worse than any of that, though, was the stupid, soft smile that Katsuki wore. He had such a ridiculously sappy look on his face, as he watched Izuku laugh over some dumb joke or story Katsuki must have told, that he honestly couldn’t blame anyone for thinking it was edited. He wasn’t sure that stupid face had ever been caught on camera before, and he really wished it had stayed that way.

Katsuki’s phone buzzed again in his hand, and he reluctantly tapped on the group chat notification. He had ninety-nine percent of the thing muted, but it still felt the need to let him know when someone mentioned his name specifically – which, thankfully, wasn’t too often.

@Katsuki you’re supposed to warn me about your publicity stunts!!

Katsuki groaned, flopping back onto the couch cushions to scroll through the hundreds of messages that had apparently been sent in the last hour alone. They’d given him a solid run without the pings, but finally Mina had decided to drag him in on the mess – not that Katsuki was going to read all of that nonsense. Skimming the most recent section of chat was more than enough.

Someone's been watching too many romantic comedies

He supposed it was the kind of thing you’d see in a movie, wasn’t it? The asshole pro-hero who always scowls and yells, sitting with his sunshine boyfriend and acting like a dopey, love-sick little sap.

I'm just picturing them starting a full blown war over who gets the last bite on their ‘date’

Izuku apparently hadn’t open the chat either, judging by his lack of replies, which Katsuki was almost relieved by. Except, of course, it meant he needed to be the one to tell him about it. Great.

“Izuku?” Katsuki called, a small part of him hoping that maybe, just maybe, Izuku wouldn’t hear him.

“What’s up, Kacchan?”

“Have you checked you phone today?”

He didn’t answer, and Katsuki knew he was reaching for it, ready to be blown up by thousands of alerts waiting for him – he didn’t have nearly the affinity for blocking people, muting notifications, and avoiding social media that Katsuki had.

“Oh fuck.”

“Yeah,” Katsuki agreed, managing to crack a tiny smile at the words. “We, uh, might have some... explaining to do, or something.”

Izuku slowly walked into the room, hesitating before he sat down on the edge of the couch. Katsuki pulled his feet in to make room, and Izuku settled in properly, neither of them quite meeting each other’s eyes.

“We had a good run,” Izuku said softly, making Katsuki’s stomach churn – every instinct he’d honed as a hero was suddenly screaming at him to run and avoid hearing the words. “I guess it was bound to happen eventually.”

“It was inevitable,” Katsuki agreed quietly.

It had all been too good to be true, after all. Izuku was way too good for him, too nice and sweet and popular and handsome and all that other sappy shit. He was lucky he’d gotten a few weeks of hanging out with him, holding hands and cuddling and practically living in each other’s homes. Izuku was right, it was a good run, but Katsuki had known it couldn’t last forever. He was a little pissed off at the universe for doing it on his birthday, though. That just didn’t seem fair.

“We’d better call our parents first,” Izuku said with a sigh. “My mom will probably cry. Your dad too. Your mom will probably yell at you. Oh, shit, do they even know you like guys? They’ll be okay with it, right? They’re so lovely, surely they can’t be homophobes, but-”

“They know I’m queer,” Katsuki assured him, eyebrows knitting together all the same. “Our parents?”

“Did... Did you want to deny it?” Izuku asked, face falling. “I mean, I get it! Don’t get me wrong! It’s not like we can’t change our minds later and recant it, but—”

“I thought you were breaking up with me,” Katsuki blurted out, face burning.

What?! Kacchan! No! Never! What?!”

Katsuki groaned, covering his face with his hands, and Izuku threw himself over top of him, pinning him to the couch and planting stupid, cheesy, adorable kisses all over his hands. He gently pulled the hands away, when Katsuki had calmed a little, moving his kisses to Katsuki’s cheeks and forehead, and Katsuki swatted at him lightly, whining.

“I love you,” Izuku reminded him. “I know I was drunk as hell the first time I said it, but I still meant it.”

“I love you too,” Katsuki conceded. “Uh, thanks. Or, sorry. I don’t—”

“Neither,” Izuku assured him. “Thank you for being honest, I appreciate it.”

“Shut up, nerd.”

Izuku grinned down at him, and Katsuki couldn’t help but smile back, reaching up to cup his cheek tenderly.

“Parents first,” Izuku said, a little softer. “Do you think we need to tell our friends individually, or can we just respond to the group chat once all the jokes calm down?”

Katsuki picked up his phone again, glancing at the window that still remained open, and regretting it immediately.

@Shinsou did you brainwash them again??

Wait, what do you mean again?

He grimaced, scrolling down a little to get to the most recent messages – apparently they were moving so quickly that his phone wasn’t even keeping up, without his scrolling.

I, too, would take my bestie on a date for that food. Look how thick that whipped cream is.

The food had been pretty good, Katsuki had to admit. It might have been worth the drama just for the meal they’d shared. And, sure, he did love Izuku too, so that helped a lot.

Suspicious that Midoriya is absent from chat today... 👀

“Group chat,” Katsuki agreed, sighing. “Quicker, and not as many stupid conversations to respond to.”

“Alright,” Izuku agreed. “But parents first.”

“You’re gonna do the talking, right?”

“Sure,” Izuku laughed, picking up his phone and swiping away all the group chat messages. “Do you think I can make it a group call or will that confuse them all too much?”

“We’ll find out.”

Izuku nodded, making a quick group chat with both their mothers, and hitting the call button. Inko picked up first, almost immediately, though Izuku could only see the top half of her head in the frame – she’d never been great with video calls. Mitsuki took a second longer, but appeared on the living room couch with a mug in her hand and a husband at her side, clearly set up with her laptop on the coffee table to let them both fit in frame nicely – he supposed that made sense, since they video called with Katsuki once a week.

“Hi sweetie!” Inko said brightly. “Happy birthday, Kacchan!”

“Hey boys,” Mitsuki followed. “Happy birthday, brat.”

“Happy birthday, Katsuki!” Masaru finished. “Have you had a good morning?”

Izuku glanced over at Katsuki, finding him already looking back, and Mitsuki’s smile twisted a little – Izuku suddenly understood where Katsuki’s smirks came from.

“I guess this answers one question,” she said, clearly amused by the whole situation – damn her and the alerts she’d set up for her son’s name being mentioned. “Want to just spit it out and get it over with?”

Masaru elbowed her lightly, impressively subtle if not for the fact that Izuku and Katsuki were heroes who were trained to pick up on much less.

“Depends what you’re talking about,” Katsuki answered, stubborn as ever.

Mitsuki cleared her throat, picking up her phone and reading aloud.

The Photo That's Breaking the Internet: Are These Heroes More Than Just Friends?

Katsuki turned bright red, and Izuku was pretty sure he was the same, from how hot he suddenly felt.

“I don’t know about Inko,” Masaru said, his tone surprisingly fond. “But we’ve known for a long time that Katsuki liked men, and we’ve long suspected that he liked you specifically, so this isn’t exactly the biggest surprise in the world.”

“Frankly, I’m impressed that he managed to wrangle it,” Mitsuki said, taking a sip from her mug. “You do know you could do much better, right?”

“Oi!” Katsuki objected. “Shut up, hag!”

“Kacchan?” Inko asked, the phone finally tilting a little to get most of her face in frame. “Thank you for taking good care of my son, he’s always been much happier when you’re around.”

“Mooooom,” Izuku whined. “Don’t say embarrassing things!”

“You’re all as bad as each other,” Katsuki said, smiling all the same. “We uh, had a chat about it, and we’re... not going to deny it, I don’t think.”

He glanced at Izuku, but Izuku was already nodding, leaning into Katsuki’s side as he smiled at the screen.

“He makes me so happy,” Izuku agreed. “We had a good run of keeping things quiet, keeping our privacy, but it was always going to happen, one day. I hoped we’d have a little more time of course, so we could tell you guys first instead of just confirming the rumours, but I’m really glad you’re okay with this.”

“You’ve always been a part of our family,” Masaru assured him. “We’re just glad you’re both happy, of course we’d be okay with it. I’m delighted for you both.”

“I can’t believe our little boys are all grown up!” Inko sniffled. “Just yesterday you were building sandcastles together at the park!”

“And insisting on making All Might flags for them,” Mitsuki added, laughing. “While wearing matching onesies.”

“Don’t start this,” Katsuki huffed. “We were babies, it’s not that weird!”

“It was adorable.”

“Hanging up now!” Katsuki huffed, reaching over to the red button. “Bye!”

Izuku waved at the screen just in time, the call disconnecting quickly, though Izuku couldn’t help but notice that it seemed to keep going without them, the timer still ticking away long after Katsuki had let out a suffering sigh and flopped backwards on the couch. He swiped the group call away, braving the mess of notifications he’d gotten on social media instead, admittedly a little curious – maybe morbidly so – to see what their followers were saying.

This is the most elaborate troll I've ever seen.

Izuku wasn’t exactly sure which part was meant to be the trolling – the fan posting it? The pair of them going on a date? The implying it was a date at all?

They're just friends, chill.

Well, that tweet was going to end up deleted soon, Izuku was pretty certain.

CANON?!?!

He switched back to their Graduating Class Group Chat, scrolling through the frankly insane number of messages that had been sent, and watching it instantly go silent when he began to type.

What does “canon” mean?

The barrage began again immediately, the chat swarmed with questions and disbelief and laughter and everything in between.

It’s like something in a TV show that actually happened, rather than being a fan theory

Oh! Thanks Ochako!

“You should stop giving them ammunition,” Katsuki said with a huff, apparently reading on his own screen despite his constant insistence that he had uninstalled the thing. “What the fuck was that about, anyway?”

“People keep tweeting things like ‘DynaDeku canon’ and I was confused.”

“What the fuck is a DynaDeku?”

Izuku gave him a scathing look, and Katsuki just raised an eyebrow in return.

“Dynamight and Deku merged together,” he explained, watching Katsuki’s cheeks turn pink. “I’ve heard DekuMight too but that sounds too much like they’re shipping me with All Might for my comfort.”

“Newsflash, nerd, they’re absolutely shipping you with All Might.”

“What?! No! Don’t say that! Kacchan, stop teasing!”

“Sure, nerd, teasing.” Katsuki laughed. “Wild that you understand shipping but not canon.”

“Shut up. People ask weird questions at signings.”

“Oh, do they ask you to sign their homemade fanfic binding projects too?”

“Their what?!”

“Never mind!”

He flicked back to social media to hopefully distract them both, unable to resist the allure of his fans going absolutely feral regardless of their thoughts – opinions were clearly divided, but they were all equally insane.

Ah yes, the picture of pure, unadulterated romance. Totally believable.

He was pretty sure that was meant to be sarcasm, but they weren’t wrong. He wondered what would happen to the fandom if he liked that message and moved on without a word.

They are just eating together, stop trying to make something out of nothing

Another one sure to be deleted in a solid... what, five minutes?

Deku is straight.

Izuku couldn’t help it: he burst out laughing.

“What?” Katsuki asked, curiosity piqued. “What are the idiots saying now?”

He turned his screen for Katsuki to see, and Katsuki rolled his eyes, though he was unable to quite hold back his laughter.

“Is it bad that I kind of want to change my label just to screw with them a little more?” Izuku asked quietly. “I mean, I’ve always been pretty happy with just being bisexual, but I could definitely go with some kind of bisexual-panromantic combo if I wanted to be really picky about it. Maybe throw in a non-binary thing just to really piss them off.”

“I’m so proud of you.”

“Shut up,” Izuku laughed, kicking him lightly. “You’re not meant to encourage me!”

“Sorry?”

They fell silent for a moment, then Katsuki glanced up, waiting for Izuku to meet his eyes.

“Is there something I should know?”

“What? You do know I’m bi, right?”

“No—I mean yeah, I do, but no, I mean the gender thing. Are you non-binary?”

“Oh! I dunno, maybe.”

“Do you... want to talk about it?”

“Nah, it’s chill.”

“Okay. Uh. Well, if you... change your mind. I’m cool with it, just so you know. Not that it would really matter if I wasn’t, that’s not my call to make. But, you know, like, pronouns.”

“You’re not good at this,” Izuku laughed, leaning over to kiss him fondly. “Thank you, I appreciate it.”

“Shut up. Just... tell me first, alright? Let me get the hang of the pronouns before you announce it, so I don’t look like a dick if I fuck it up”

“You’ll be the first to know,” Izuku assured him, grinning. “Thanks, Kacchan.”

I'm crying, this is so beautiful.

Izuku agreed with that person.

Their phones dinged, and Izuku held his breath as he opened the message, dead silent for a minute as he read it. Katsuki was clearly doing the same, from the way he went oddly still, the pair of them just reading together, waiting for the other to speak.

It was finally time.

Unfortunately it came with a lot of requests for interviews and statements, but they’d been assured they could deal with that later, when they weren’t on leave for Katsuki’s birthday. Now they just had to... talk.

Not to each other, of course; that was easy. Talking to their friends, on the other hand, was... more daunting.

So romantic. I'm sure they're whispering sweet nothings about who is gonna be top of the next hero rankings.

Katsuki had to admit that some of the messages were kind of funny. He’ was particularly fond of that one, but a small part of him felt like it got harder and harder to respond with every one that came in.

My favourite part is how uncomfortable they both look.

Did he really look uncomfortable? He’d seen the sentiment on social media, too, but it was worse when it was one of their former classmates – surely they knew what Katsuki’s facial expressions looked like, right?

I'm so happy for them! They deserve each other.

Izuku insisted that one was genuine, but Katsuki was pretty sure it was snarky or sarcastic.

All of you shut up.

“Kacchan,” Izuku chastised him immediately. “Come on.”

“It needed to be said,” Katsuki argued. “You as well, gimme a minute to think.”

“Rude! You talk to your boyfriend like that?”

Katsuki blushed. He wasn’t sure why it was that the word boyfriend messed with him so much, but Izuku had picked up on it immediately, and he was kind of a shithead when it came to that kind of teasing. Katsuki drummed his fingers against his phone, thinking, but to their credit, his friends did slow down on the messages – he wasn’t sure it was going to last long, but he enjoyed the peace while he had it.

I'm going to frame this picture.

Those were the comments that kept him going. He knew it was teasing, but it also seemed... happy for them. It was different from the snarky jokes, even though they were all still jokes at his expense. It was... kinder.

I know I don’t deserve him.

“Kacchan!!”

“Just wait a second, nerd.”

But you all know what a self-sacrificing idiot he is, so...

KACCHAN.”

“I said wait! Yeesh!”

Yeah. We are. You know. Together.

For the first time all day, the chat fell silent.

Stop being mean to my boyfriend!!

The chat went wild.

Katsuki just stared at it for a second, at the mass of names popping up with their typing icons, before he decided it wasn’t worth it. He swiped the window away and set his phone face-down on the coffee table, flopping heavily against Izuku’s side instead.

“Love you,” Izuku murmured, wrapping an arm around his waist and dragging him in for a kiss. “Don’t care what any stupid fans say.”

“Same,” Katsuki said, yawning and snuggling into Izuku’s warm frame. “It’s my birthday, pay attention to me.”

Izuku just laughed, setting his phone aside and hugging Katsuki tighter, nuzzling at his hair fondly.

“We should maybe lie low tonight,” he suggested quietly. “Might be a lot of cameras around and stuff.”

“Mm. I can cook.”

“Don’t be silly. How about that Chinese place you liked?”

“Oh, the super spicy one?”

“Yeah!”

“That works,” Katsuki agreed. “Alright, delivery it is. Only because it’s my birthday.”

“Sure, baby,” Izuku teased, snuggling in closer again. “Are you ready to talk about it?”

“Yeah,” Katsuki sighed, closing his eyes. “Okay, you start.”

“Do we want to make a more official statement through our PR people like they said we could?”

“We can,” Katsuki said, grimacing. “I guess we’ll have to no matter what, at some point.”

“But you’d prefer the other option?”

“Is that weird?” Katsuki asked.

“I don’t think so,” Izuku said, shrugging. “I kind of like the idea that it’s... normal.”

“More casual?”

“Yeah. Like it’s no big deal, it doesn’t need to be a big fuss, it just... is.”

“I like that.”

“We could just repost the article, if we want to be really chaotic.”

“Quote it with a bunch of green and orange heart emojis,” Katsuki suggested, laughing to himself. “Watch the internet break.”

“I’m pretty sure we already broke it.”

Katsuki snorted, but he didn’t deny it.

“We could take a photo,” Izuku suggested, his face burning when Katsuki glanced back. “And just... post it.”

“Yeah?” Katsuki asked, humming thoughtfully. “It could work.”

“I’m not sure how we’d make it more obvious than that smile on your face in their photo, though.”

“Shut up. You are not posting our sex tape.”

“We have a sex tape?”

“You know what I mean.”

Izuku grabbed his phone again, pulling up his camera, and Katsuki couldn’t resist a smile when he saw them in the frame together. They always seemed to fit together so well, like two pieces of the world’s easiest puzzle. Maybe one of those cheesy “best friends forever” necklaces that slotted together to make a heart, or some sappy shit like that. Izuku would have liked that thought, but Katsuki refused to say it out loud.

Deku is obviously dating Uravity, you idiots. Jesus Christ people are dense on this website.

Okay, yup, they were definitely doing it.

Izuku planted a kiss on Katsuki’s temple, snapping a couple of photos as he did, laughing over them as he scrolled through to pick his favourite. To be honest, it was probably a little ambiguous still – it could have, at a stretch, been Izuku teasing and making a stupid joke about the rumours. But if Katsuki posted it too...

Katsuki grabbed his phone back, opening his own camera and shuffling a little to make sure he was in the right spot. He wrapped an arm around Izuku’s neck, grabbing him in a headlock, then kissed him right on his dumb freckles. He took a photo, satisfied when he saw the glow in Izuku’s cheeks that showed up perfectly on camera, the cute little scrunch of his nose as he grinned. Katsuki almost didn’t want to post it, wanted to keep it all for himself, but he also knew he would never find one he liked more, to put on his page.

“What are you captioning it?” Katsuki asked, as he loaded up a new post.

“Green and orange hearts!”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah!” Izuku grinned. “It’s such a cute idea!”

“Fine, you damn nerd,” Katsuki said fondly. “But put the orange one first.”

“Nope!”

“Dickhead.”

His post, at least, would have them in the right order, no matter what Izuku did.

“Three?” Izuku said.

“Two,” Katsuki agreed.

“One...”

He hit the post button.

The photo popped up on his timeline, immediately preceded by Izuku’s matching one, with his hearts reversed like a dumbass. They were posted within a couple of seconds of each other, a united front, and Katsuki sighed as he snuggled into Izuku again. He leaned his head on Izuku’s shoulder, getting another cute little kiss for his efforts, their phones buzzing relentlessly where they lay limp in their hands. Even with so many things muted, the pings and tags were apparently enough to make his phone feel like it might break, or take off, with how endlessly it vibrated.

He finally braved a look, when he’d had a few minutes of just silently snuggling, cracking a smile at the first reply that had been posted.

My ship is sailing, and I'm the captain! All aboard!!

His fans really were weirdos, but he kinda loved them sometimes.

The like counts on both their posts were soaring, with no sign of stopping, and #DynaDekuCanon was already trending, even though #DynaDeku had already been up there for hours. More news articles were pouring it, written far too quickly to come with any kind of quality – although he supposed there were probably a dozen journalists around the country just sitting in a little cubicle with two articles at hand, ready to go the moment they got confirmation one way or the other. He kind of wanted to see what the alternative ones were, just out of morbid curiosity.

“You look so cute,” Izuku said fondly.

“In the photo?” Katsuki asked, pulling a face. “Gross.”

“That too,” Izuku chuckled. “But I meant now.

Katsuki blushed, hearing the telltale shutter of a phone camera pointed his way, but Izuku set his phone aside before he could see it and complain.

“That one doesn’t get posted,” he said firmly. “Don’t be gross.”

“Fine,” Izuku laughed. “But I’m gonna make it my wallpaper.”

“Don’t you dare.”

Katsuki’s phone dinged a couple of times in quick succession, and he picked it up to look, a little surprised by the sound. There were only a few people whose messages were allowed to make noise at him instead of just buzzing, and he hadn’t really expected any of them, right then.

Congratulations, Young Bakugou. I’m sure you two will build a bright future together, I can’t think of a better man for him nor for you.

“Sappy old man,” Katsuki grumbled, sending back his thanks all the same.

“Your dad?”

All Might.

Izuku just laughed, and Katsuki huffed, switching to the other message.

Bro. Oh my god. Thank christ you two finally got your shit together.

Of course Eijirou would be the one to break convention and ditch the group chat, just to make sure Katsuki actually read it. One day he’d have to scroll through and see what people said – or at least let Izuku do it and read him the good ones – along with some of the replies on their social media. He kind of wanted to go see how quickly the shitty ones got deleted, but he honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if people just doubled down and insisted it was a publicity stunt or something. Some of their own friends had thought so, after all.

The response wouldn’t all be positive, he wasn’t stupid enough to think the whole world would just magically decide they were cool with it, but he hoped at least the majority of their fans would see exactly how cheesy and gross and sappy their photos were, and how... ugh. How happy they clearly were.

Gross.

“Hey Kacchan?”

“Mmm?”

“What’s an OTP?”
