The What We Do In The Shadows film is SO good and funny and very sweet. I've seen it several times.

Antonio Primavera

DeSica's Umberto D. is so good! But, my wife bawled and says she'll never see it again.

Antonio Primavera

Morrissey is the best! He's always said that he doesn't like labels, that they are there just to make people feel bad.

Antonio Primavera

Goddamn! Rufus has a "yeah" machine gun!

Antonio Primavera

I had a friend ages ago that had a tendency to get names wrong. For example, he always called Rufus ‘Rupert’, and he was from NY and had an accent so it was even funnier to me. We saw him at I believe the Wilshire Ebel early ‘00’s (great show with a touching encore cameo with his father Louden.) This guy passed away a few years ago but I still crack up when I think of him saying ‘what time is the Rupahht show again?’ Definitely a you had to be there thing but a warm memory as an Xer of past great times from listening to this one.

Okay you need to take a cold shower, presumably the only option anyway in Hungary.

Mark Cleary

How many yeah does yeah Rufus say yeah, yeah, in this interview? Yeah, annoying yeah yeah

Justin

Ate poo, Patreon?

James Reeves

yeah

Brian Borough

Great to hear Bret's take on Mysterious Skin, a vastly overlooked and under-rated film which is as moving and complex as anything I've seen. Maybe one day people will make films like this again?

I just watched The Rubin Report interview on YouTube💯on point, not that I expected anything less Bret.

BRC

How many times does Rufus say "yeah" in this interview? Annoying.

To start appreciating opera, I may suggest watching Jean-Jacques Beneix’s 80’s film Diva. La Wally is its main theme and its easy to love.

Where was the Nick Cave quote pulled from?

Great interview and guest.

DEVS was well executed, but the lead actress is a vacuum, sucking up any charm or urgency the series might have had.

Christopher Webster

Bret, what do you think of Family Romance LLC by Herzog?

Kat Chamberlin

Great episode. Further to when they talk about their looks: I remember Bret from 2008 when he was the headliner of the international book festival in Budapest (Hungary). There was a huge line of fans clutching mostly their American Psycho copies, then Bret entered. Sleek, ethereal, elegant. He was the most beautiful human being I have ever seen. He was donning leather driver gloves, looked like this high fashion aviator from a highly stylized movie, very Don Draper. I was so stunned that I convinced my friends that instead of standing in line for a couple of awkward seconds while he signs our book (for me it would have been Glamorama), we should stand close to the autograph booth and watch him while he politely and coolly does it for everyone else. Our staring was so direct, that at one point he looked at us, we were waving like crazy and he waved back. I said, that's it. This is more than we could have wished for. So cool, I never felt so cool and happy as then. So yes, Bret did look great when he was 44.

The Velvet Buzzsaw? lol.

Any other interesting LA podcasters you can recommend?

Jan Rörvik

Interesting window into Tinzeltown you give here.

Another great episode! Bret, would you consider devoting one of your opening monologues to discussing all the lockdown reading you’ve been doing? Would love to hear your thoughts on books as well as movies

P Smoke

New member here. A Brit in lockdown in Japan. Love the show and so happy I can now unlock the treasure trove of back editions😃👍The Eagles deserve respect!

Mark Conrad Weisner

The only film from this godforsaken year I really liked was Swallow. I think Bret would really enjoy this one.

Jon A.

Rufus sounds like Louis CK doing his stereotypical‘Mexican’ voice. 😂

Reservoir Frog

I want a “gay monster,” too!

James Reeves

A David Mamet episode would be killer!!

nick

Yesss just started listening.

Erick

I love RW’s laugh!

PM Glavin

It’s so refreshing to hear Bret vent his feelings about the madness of our current world. Would really love for him to have David Mamet or get Bret on Joe Rogan. Been a listener of BEE podcast since the beginning! Love everything you produce. Thank you.

Michael Glaberman

Really cool monologue. Kael sandwiched between Didion on Covid. Second most asked question: What's your central trauma? Also, a real discussion on the state of music. Lyrics are bad these days; Rufus puts it right... In need of a First Cow review.

Brian Rooney

Wish I could consume content like Bret!

Another excellent episode! Anyone know what YouTube video Brett is referring to? The 600k view video.

Can’t wait to listen. May I post a mild complaint about the recent schedule of dropping these on a Sunday night? What about Sunday AM? One could wake up with eager anticipation and listen as breakfast and errands and pool tanning are slowly achieved. Just a thought!
