The B.E.E. Podcast - 4/12/20 - Movies About The Movies - GOLD

In this extended Gold edition of the podcast, Bret Easton Ellis recommends movies to stream in isolation that are about our favorite subject: The Movies. James Cagney, Jack Palance, John Schlesinger, Rod Steiger, Nathanael West and Jean-Luc Godard all join the show in spirit for this socially distant celebration of cinema.

As to vaudeville and song-n-dance men, and the media...This is Mike Wallace, the most lauded and respected "journalist" in the US for a long fucking time. It should be no surprise that the media has always been shit. propaganda, entertainment.

Alfre Woodard has always creeped me out. I don't like looking at her. I've heard a number of "woke" people go on about her "beauty"...kinda like they do with Obama's wife. I loved that Joan Rivers called her a "tranny." :)

Watched “The Long Goodbye” several nights ago, due to Bret’s approval and it was unlike anything I could’ve expected from an early 70’s P.I. Noir. Alas, I lament the stall of Eliot Gould’s career due to the major falling out with the powers that be of that time. Mr. Gould gives an intimate description of that incident on Marc Marons WTF podcast from 2 or 3 years ago. I sincerely recommend seeking it out.

All right. Bret convinced me to give Contempt another chance during this season of the virus. Only problem is it doesn’t come until May 6th.

Glad you reviewed Day of the Locust. I started watching it a few weeks ago, about half of it, and when I wanted to finish it, it was gone from the Criterion Channel. Can't say I loved it or hated it, as you say, it was still somehow compelling to watch, even though none of the characters were very interesting. In a similar kind of movie, I also recently watched The Last Picture Show, after you talked about it, and I really liked it.

Get to The Legend of Lylah Clare for wowzer Robert Aldrich (oh, and once coronavirus ever ends, maybe someone can program it at New Beverly **attention Q.T. coughcough**).

Just in time for the weekend. I had a bad experience with Contempt at University, but I look forward to discover the other suggestions.

Who are Bret’s favorite porn stars? How did he feel about Tiger King and dead hot Travis? How is Bret’s boyfriend doing? What does Bret do to celebrate the end of a project? What does Bret think about paying for sex? Does Bret have a favorite holiday? What is Bret’s best dish he can make?
