Kevin Smith: I had a great childhood....no trauma.... Kevin Smith all throughout the interview, referring to himself.... stupid fat fuck....stupid fat fuck...stupid fat fuck....

PeZ

I someone doubt that Kevin's works are near and dear to Bret's heart!

Chris Wright

he's eighty years old now so I think he'd be the oldest guest Bret has ever had

Chris Wright

pretty sure that Bret (regrettably) doesn't vibe on the film version

Chris Wright

Kevin Smith

Eric M. Rhein

Can we just pause and give thanks for this amazing Scorsese graphic?

Jeremy Saulnier, Luca Guadagnino, Ruben Ostlund or Alain Guiraudie. Fincher is too good to be true.

Josh S.

Hadn't thought of him. Solid guess!

Chad Daniel Russell

David Robert Mitchell

Roscoe

I hope it’s DePalma, though Friedkin would be highly entertaining.

Ryan Kindermann

Bogdanovich !

Alan Beam

I just thought of Luca Guadagnino, but I'll cheat and add Mary Harron due to the "near". As others said, Polanski would be quite the intense experience.

Filipa de Araújo

Bennett Miller

Alex Waller

It'd be great if it was Fincher but he's filming Mank right now

Alex Waller

Mary Harron

Jerome Busca

De Palma!!!!

Brian Rooney

Fincher ? Friedkin more likely. Though I've never heard Bret really talk about the exorcist. John Carpenter? He's been on before though.

Billy Vega

Spike Lee

Edgar Phipps

Terrence Malick? https://www.criterion.com/current/top-10-lists/286-bret-easton-ellis-s-top-10

Chris Wright

Would be a hell of a listen...

Bookth

No, they said: ‘with a director whose most famous film is near and dear to Bret's heart’ ...

Bookth

Noah Baumbach

Matt De Marco

Oh wow right

J C

Would never happen, but it'd be epic if he landed an interview with Polanski.

Chad Daniel Russell

Seems like logical choice

J C

I’m going with Stone

J C

Joon-Ho?

J C

I was thinking Malick. Friedkin is more likely and would be a great interview guest.

Chad Daniel Russell

Well, we've had Peter Bogdanovich (last picture show) and Paul Schrader (american gigolo). Malick for Days of Heaven? Probably way too big a name tbh. Friedkin for French Connection or Exorcist?

Bookth

must be Neil Breen

David Morgan-Brown

Casualties of War? I would put that near the bottom close to Snake Eyes with N Cage

J C

They said "best film" not most famous. DePalma's best film is either Blow Out or Casualties of War.

Cine-Mechanic

Oliver stone?

J C

Who do you think it is?

J C

But what would De Palma's Most Famous Film be? I know Brett loves Blow Out, but not sure that would be more famous than Untouchables, Mission Impossible, Scarface etc. Maybe Carrie? I think the specificity of one stand out film counts De Palma out, unfortunately.

Bookth

Depalma
