The Times They Are a-Changin' (Build 0.6.3)

Today's update primarily focuses on improvements to core gameplay: the moment-to-moment control of Hyperdeep's characters (whether that be manual or automatic control).

The central challenge of creating a game like Hyperdeep is to strike a balance that allows the player to feel like their inputs are directly and immediately controlling the gameplay, while also ensuring that the resultant motion contributes to an overall attractive presentation. Concretely: the player should be able to move HD-chan however they want to, but not in a way that looks bad.

The changes in this update reduce the likelihood of player input resulting in "bad" motion (penis clipping through things, physics bugging out, HD-chan's neck twisting too far, etc.) while attempting to maintain the sense of direct control that the game has had until this point. Furthermore, the logic that determines how automode movement is calculated has largely been overhauled to give an overall more realistic/exciting/smooth behavior.

There are a smattering of other fun changes too. Namely: new saliva graphics and handjob twisting. For the full list see the changelog.

Scary times ahead

Those of you following gaming news will be aware that there have been some recent culls of adult games from various platforms due to pressure from payment processors. So far this has only had a minor effect on Hyperdeep: the game has been delisted from itch.io (like all adult games have). However, I hope that this will eventually be overturned once itch.io gets a system in place to properly vet adult content.

Overall, I think that Hyperdeep is at a relatively low risk (as in, relative to other adult games) of being censored by this type of action. I won't go into detail here (to save us from unnecessary scrutiny should Patreon be actively monitoring for certain words), but the themes and content that platforms are specifically banning are not present in the game. However, if we are entering an era of greater scrutiny I do need to be cautious. Unfortunately, design decisions regarding gameplay and customization options will have to be made with half an eye on big brother going forward.
