[PUBLIC EPISODE] The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One: ep014 “There is an Ocean Vaster Than This One"

Nothing ends. Everything begins.

And we...are just. getting. started ;)

We hope you have enjoyed this first chapter as much as we enjoyed making it. Which was just, so, so much. The Funky Bunch will return in October. But between now and then? Listen to me. Come closer. Listen: You are not ready. Soon we'll release a calendar of all the cool stuff coming out during the break, so, sleep in your clothes, keep a go bag by the door, trade all your Playstations 5s for precious metals and water-purifying straws, and STAY READY TO GO AT A MOMENTS NOTICE. This autumn, you will be with us in paradise.

This episode featured a song called The Rain Road, with music by Taylor Moore and lyrics by Taylor Moore and Brennan Mulligan. Look at us, like Hall and Oates over here!

We had wonderful help with the choral arrangement from composer and choir director Héctor Muñoz (available for hire!) and the Macraphona Choir: Camila Chaij (solo), Micaela Roldán Juan Leoni, and Nahuel Camargo

right? i feel like the only person who sees her as a bad guy

Olea Plum

Only listening now a year later. This is incredible.

Erika Ginnis

I personally imagine the “indicative reflexive” indicates to the Citadel who cast what spell, and the null clef prevents that reporting.

Cole Carolan

Goodbye silent tears here comes sobbing 😭

Iryn

Okay, y'all already get me all up in my feels, and now you're gonna add music to the emotional damage?! Rude. By which, if course, I mean "never stop." ❤️

Danielle St John

Mental health and [vague hand gestures] life have kept me from this despite being subbed all of this time, so I am now dedicated to catching up on about ten months of episodes. I have run through seven episodes in fifteen hours and am absolutely in shambles (extremely, ridiculously affectionate and reverent) from this finale. Thank you so, so much for this gift. On to chapter two I go!

Bria A.

Just wanted to come back to the comments here to say that this marks the fourth time I remembered the moment where the song breaks in on this game and had to come back, find it, and listen to the whole sequence again, tears silently streaming down my face. Tayler lined up a masterstroke here that is frankly incredible. Well done, again.

TheWanderingMage

Suvi (as a character) angers me so much. She's so selfish, so juvenile, she would almost make more sense still in the children's adventure. Throws her friends under the bus, nothing's ever her fault. Just ugg, a character I really am disliking

Travis Starnes

So we weren’t gonna warn me that there would be a beautiful song in the middle of this episode?

Kyle Cupelli

"My Dad." Oh you got me. You got a tear from me.

David Paterson

I Don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't find the audio for episode 14 anywhere, just the fireside chat. Help 😭

Nick

Consequences Packing the journey with joy Even a dash helps

Just finished listening. This episode made me cry twice at work. TWICE! Very thankful no one saw so I didn't have to explain why I was crying over make believe magical friendship. So excited for chapter 2, but also how DARE you make me wait after that cliff hanger ❤️

Gwen

Omg I’m finally listening now and just burst into tears at the song 😭😭😭. Wow y’all wow. Just so incredible. Thank you so so much for sharing this with us.

Nicole Wong

Please pass along to the transcription team that they are very appreciated in the work they're doing.

SvenTS

Y'all just.....This stole my breath over and over. I try to explain to people who aren't on this journey that some of the most awe-inspiring storytelling of the decade is happening through a role-playing game shared via podcast. Every character choice and narrative break and the stunning sound work from Taylor have come together to craft this incredible piece of art. The emotional rollercoaster I went on while listening tonight is indescribable. Thank you all so much

Jennifer

it's like that Stallone movie where those people are mountain climbing

Conor Steinke

YOOOOO WHAT 🫠💀

Ashley Teatum

I see you, Browncoat.

Kiera Faye

How you gonna play us like that Brennan? You make us cry with what are essentially grammar lessons and then you drop a monster cliffhanger? Evil little man indeed. I’m dying...I’m dead...I died.

Matthew B

THERE'S A DISCORD?? I didn't follow up cos I wasn't sure how to get in touch with anyone on patron 😅 omg

d2k

I’m a video editor and I’ve done “virtual choir” videos. Are you on the Discord?

Kiera Faye

Yes. Yes. Absolutely yes.

Kiera Faye

Holy shit this episode had me bawling in all the best ways 😭💕

Mar-y-sol

When can we expect the transcript? I feel scared of spoilers at every turn and want to enjoy the live when it happens but the transcript is incredibly helpful for me and my wife.

Jonathan Pierson

This story, this world, this characters all of it has inspired me so much to follow my urge to imagine and create. Thank you so much for making such an amazing story available for all of us patreons or not. Eagerly waiting for the IG Live and hoping to put your Duolingo skills to the test. Greetings from a fan in Mexico

Cruz Moya

Brb might be getting “honor exists without shame” tattooed on my body😭

James Genovese

Or try Emily Axford's "cooking them under a full moon" trick.

Sarah Sutton

Suvi's entire playlist is my hype track for working out.

Sarah Sutton

Oh. Suvi's response to the question "Who are you talking to?" broke me. 😭

Erin Blake

(it's also the name of Aabria's aeormaton assistant in Calamity... I wondered if this was more like a ~let's go provolone~ style reference)

AliceH

This was such an amazing episode, I loved it so much. I especially love the spell craft jargon that was introduced! Where did you get the inspiration for the kind of musical style presented? Are there any other bits about that you could share?

Jessie Harris

I was thinking about her!! Like, she’s just supposed to say “suvi sent me” and she’s good? She doesnt even know her full name. No official documentation either, just the name of a very important not even official goverment official. I think ghost is staying in Port Talon.

A Concerning Number of Bees

it's ok, all she has to do is talk to any cop. that'll go super well for her.

Kyle Rudy

Poor forgotten Ghost. 😢

Brendan Dixon

I'm so glad Aabria was able to voice all of our reactions to that cliffhanger. Can't wait for October to come!

Kat

Omg who sang that song? I love it so much

Jonathan Lawton

I believe they said "see you in October" somewhere?

Nick Fraker

I need to know when you are coming back with the start of Arc 2. Will you be taking a longer break than 2 weeks?????

Olivia Cook.

Happy Labor Day weekend to you all! It's so awesome seeing all of you involved with the strike and I just wanted to give a shout out in solidarity! I love being able to listen to independent creators tell phenomenal stories! Y'all are amazing!

Corey J. Brown

Mad love for all of you, thank you so much!

Carol Morris

I can't get this episode to work on Google podcasts.

Jonathan Goddard

Thank you all for the story :)

erelde

They talked about that in the last Fireside chat. Lots of bad things.

Erika Abbas Hanna

This episode made me cry at least 4 times!

Stacy

I'm actually as much as she had the right to he pissed the only one who did anything was ersalon but he can't be heald by the same rules. Like when she said next time you do something like this it's an act of aggression, I partly expecting him to respond with next time I find a sibling enslaved and abused by the empire I will consider it an act of aggression.

zack proudfoot

i finally caught up and this hit my heart the only way masterful, honest, storytelling can. thank you for helping me touch something inside myself.

Sarah

I had no idea how much i loved Erika before WWW. I LIKED her before, but this format has really given her a place to shine. She's great. They're all great. What a finale!

Adam Driver

The Fox is very Thomas O'Malley the Alley Cat coded, endless loyalty but still a little scoundrel :)

rocket-flash

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

Hex Sharpe

I am perpetually worried about Brennan and company burning out, so as much as it sucks to have to wait a month for more stuff, I’m fully in support of whatever pace they feel they need to set so we can get delicious stories until…I mean preferably the heat death of the universe if possible, but I’ll accept a couple millennia if not.

Connor

I suppose I am experiencing a bit of dissonance. I expected her to be tougher on them. A lot of the outcome of quest fever was just the dice. If the wizards had followed Galani not Morrow. If Eursalon's predicament wasn't life-threatening immediately. But I also feel like, beyond the practicalities of narrative, the morality doesn't balance out and people seem a little too okay with it because The Empire is a scary collective but the Fish God and the Bear Cub have cute stories.

Ecceptable

Aaaaaagggghhhhhh so amazing! This whole arc! Whoever played Eursalon this week, how did you navigate the balance of the character's new confidence in finding his breath, but not instantly becoming like a whole different person? I really liked the mix of goofy, awkward Eursalon and rediscovering his purpose Eursalon.

Julianne Hughes

Like I get it, if you have Steele respond in an appropriate manner, the party is in jail and the campaign is over. But considering she JUST chewed them all out for breaking the rules, her response to a ton of people dying is effectively shrugging her shoulders and being like "what can you do? kids, am I right?" And Suvi didn't actually take part, yeah. Ame is currently in a coma so it's not like she can yell at her. But after all that Eursalon just stares her down. I'm flummoxed.

Mike A

What an outstanding first arc!!! Will we get to see the group's character sheets at any point? Excited to check out the witch class!

Jason

Dweomer! interesting etymology https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/dweomer

Worlds Beyond Number

apparently its dweomer, which is used to describe a magical aura on an enchanted item

wyatt

Since the transcript isn’t out yet, does anyone know what the word or phrase is at 1:52:05 in the Suvi spellbook scene? It sounds like “dwi omer” but I know that’s not right, and idk what it means or how to find it without knowing at least how it’s spelled.

Flynneas

I'm with you. I can see her essentially saying, "Okay. Sunk costs. The empire was wrong, and even if I think the three were wrong too, going after them now would open a can of worms, and implicate my protege/daughter, AND potentially alienate an ally witch, AND ruin this honored friend's life." I know there was a nod to the fact that the wizards and soldiers had names, but I would be interested if one of the three ran across a parent or sibling or a child of one of them and had to explain why waiting a few more hours wasn't an option. (But then again, I like the wizards. Presumptuous weirdo assholes. The witches I've seen are all better people but gawd what goody-goodies they are.)

Ecceptable

I’m putting money (just a shiny penny) on us figuring out what the heart of the world is (at least in part) in line with Ame getting a level 3 subclass. Second prediction the null clef’s existence being used to control or override the magic of the citadel. It feels like a back door that someone slipped into their magic on a fundamental level that could be abused. Third prediction many more tears.

Brian Given

It’s also that they discovered something that was previously misunderstood about magic and that it is still evolving. Fundamentally there is unnecessary component to all wizards spells. Partly as a safety procedure against unpredictable magic but there may be other implications in there. If I could catch Brennan’s ear I’d tell him to have the man in black use the wizards reliance on the null clef against the might of the citadel in some way.

Brian Given

I genuinely don't understand how Steele hasn't completely had it with this group. After chewing them out for their actions and telling them to sit tight (again), they don't and a catastrophic event occurs which kills (according to Steele) 150 soldiers. I'd be losing my mind.

Mike A

yall are releasing the rain road as an individual track right. please tell me that’s a thing that’s happening. are you gonna publish an satb choral arrangement for it too because i know soooo many choirs would leap at the chance to sing this. like this is one of the songs that you cry during the performance from the joy of singing it together

Joules Sage

well the song that the elders sang made me UGLY WEEP at my dining table, so, will you be releasing it as a track? please say yes? pretty please? i need it, ok?

Corey Lynn

Oh 100 PERCENT. Should of listened to Ruthie, NO LOOSE ENDS

lunarsummer

Another runner!! Such dedication to use this for all 6 miles, I could tell it was gonna get heavy and switched to Suvi’s playlist until I got home 😅

lunarsummer

You know that feeling you get at the end of a book where you have to throw it at a wall because it's so good and also over and there was a really big cliffhanger that gives you a lot of feelings? I can't throw my phone but if it were a book it would be hitting the waaalllllll!!!

lunarsummer

THAT SONG 😭😭😭

Maggie

I had a really long tough week and sat down tonight and treated myself to a two hour jaunt with my over-ear noise cancelling headphones. I’m a fool and a scoundrel for doing this on episode 14 for the first time. I cannot explain how MEDIUM-DEFYING the sound mixing is by Taylor. I FEEL the sound in my EAR BONES, people. the water stuff? The kudzu sounds? The sounds from the actors??? The SONG????? Taylor, you’re a god, idk. Also please please please who is singing in the song because they are all very talented and also can we super pretty pretty please get a full version of it? 💖 Brb I’m going to go and relisten to all of WWW and the Children’s adventure w/ my new better knowledge to atone for the ignorance and naïveté of my past self.

Mackenzie Young

end of an arc! it means that the first "season", "storyline" or "chapter", whatever you prefer, in the big, overarching plot of WWWO is over, and now they're taking a break posting new episodes on the main podcast feed until some time in october. arc 1 took us from the gang coming back together to breaking ame's curse and leaving port talon. arc 2 will be... doing stuff at the citadel and probably starting the main plot of the whole show, putting some big goals up on the board that wont be done for Awhile if i had to guess? purely speculation, of course.

A Concerning Number of Bees

i was at work. i was a fool, and listened to this at work, literally cutting onions during some of it. the song almost got me, but that last thing with suvi and her parent's work... thank god i could hide the tears.

A Concerning Number of Bees

OK BUT THE SONG?!!!!! I’m weeping

Katrina Janairo

Todays discretion is unhinged <3

CataQu

you're a saint for the time stamp <3

Sol

i can't express what a beautiful surprise the song was. whatever name it's been given, it will always be Danger Is Gone to me <3

Sol

Fully cried when Suvi said she was talking to her dad. Aabria 1: Me 0

Audrey Huynh

What does it mean "end of arc"!? Does that mean no new episodes for a while!? I can't wait!!!

Gamer Crafts Studio

As Brennen says, incredible.

DaveBauer

This song?! Is it original? OMG how can I lose my shit a little more each episode?

Zachary Schwendemann-Whitman

screaming crying throwing up etc

Megs

It's not even ab this ep but I just had to stop listening to come comment two things. 1.I have absolutely had the convo that Suvi suffered from Steele b4, when MY phone died. Comment triggered by Aabria making the analogy. Just to contextualize how much I'm not kidding. ONE time I went to have ice cream with my classmates and was ab 2h late from the time Inwas usually home and NEVER missed. The next day mom bought me a cell phone, and she gave it to me saying, finger pointed at my nose: This phone is NOT yours, it is MINE, for ME to find YOU at any moment and be sure you are safe. And don't you DARE let the battery die. 2nd: going old lady instead of pregnant woman in the con to go outside the gate would have ABSOLUTELY be a more (lol) realistic choice. Aabria mentions the Chernobyl ladies. I had a uni professor that actually took an unpaid leave of absence from his tenured position to go stay underground with his mom, when she refused to leave Lybia in one of the years pre 2006 that the country was suffering from air raids and bombings. He used to say ab the event. "She wouldn't leave, so I went to be with her, rather than be in another continent wondering whether she was still alive." 🤷

Karin Voll

THE SONG omg i want a full version

Alana Turnbull

The song is gorgeous

Foraged Blueberry

Time to invent a time machine to hop to october

Disco Whale

when aabria screamed at the end of the ep bc of brennan’s cliffhanger i felt that in my SOUL

Rie Ohta

This is the greatest thing

Charles Shields

Stupid D&D podcast made me cry.

Trey

Hey, so why am I crying in the middle of the club, Taylor? Great job guys, phenomenal work

Katie P.

There is playing a fun dnd game with friends and there is the art of true story telling, this is the latter for sure. Y’all r the most incredible folks ever. This is so f**king perfect aggahsgahgagahavvshag

William Pintair

Incredible first act. Amazing sound production. These amazing people are doing amazing things. There's a lot of good moments that people have mentioned, but I heard Brennan fully bail on a sheath joke he was gonna make and that was hilarious to me.

Justin

Just crying in public listening to this over and over. So many episodes have different sections that just hit so good I have to replay them over and over. Thank you for making these, it is the best, most emersive story telling I have ever gotten to experience. Also will send dice if y'all promise to jail whatever ones Aabria was rolling. "What the fuuuuuuck" was the correct response to call those horrible rolls.

K80

D20 is funny-forward and spectacular for it. May it run for as long as it creators feel inspired by it. I enjoy every season. AND, I am so glad you 4 carved out this long form, creative, and totally different space. It is so nice to see all of you spread your emotional and story telling wings wide.

Chewy Noodles

This is the epitome of story telling I never expected to be so in love with a fresh world so quickly. I have been a long time fan of all of the work you all have done but this is the greatest thing I have ever had the privilege to experience.

Darius Johnson

Chills. Absolute chills. Literal, metaphorical. Just sitting in stunned silence.

v_squared (Vanessa)

I’m over an hour in an utterly mesmerized. The sound design is, as it always has been, stunning.

Sarah Lou

Oh man the song got me: gorgeous first arc

Katie Butler

Taylor and everyone really put their whole foot in it this time

Caia Hull

PLEASE i need this song in full

Rie Ohta

I just need you to know that I openly fully cried tears during multiple parts of this, I don't know how to continue going about my day, I love you so much, thank you

niv fecher

I need that song on Spotify!! But for real this has been amazing, laughing, crying, everything! Best $5 of my life lol

Mary Poppin's Jellyfish

That was pure magic 👌 thank you all for creating something so special. Would love it if you could release “The Rain Road” on Spotify!

Orion Hart

I was in stitches, I was in tears. I experienced every single emotion possible within these two hours. Absolutely beautiful! Congratulations for such a wonderful first Arc, and I look forward to when you all return in October ❤️ (And extra special kudos to Sound Sorcerer Taylor because the music and sound mixing still has me in chills with every single episode and I have no idea how you keep raising the bar every time!!!)

Samantha

Aabria… do we need to pass the collection plate to get you some new dice? Put the ones you’re using on the prayer list? Arc 2, we can’t be having your rolling nat 1’s with curses on the line, like Lou said. To all of y’all though, amazing work so far. Y’all have created an incredible story… Seriously, some of the best storytelling across ANY medium that we get the pleasure to graciously take part. Thanks, and I can’t wait for what comes next.

Eric Bennett

I hit the song around mile 6 of my run and nearly broke into tears from physical exhaustion and beauty. Promptly doubled over in laughter 15 minutes later from Penis stuff

David Brady

ANYONE ELSE CRYING IN THE CLUB (at their desk at work) AT THE SONG?! TAYLOR HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO US. OH MY GOOODDDDDD. Thank you for this gift.

Riley McInnis

Brennan: can you reveal something of what might have occurred if Eursalon had not had quest fever and managed to wait for Steele?

Erik Parsons

The citadel triumphant theme becoming subservient to the folk song chorus was so cool

Ian Bock

Steel reminds me so much of my aunt it hurts my heart, Brennannn </3 steel is so important to me TTATT

Ruvi

Oh my god TOO REAL that's when you do your relisten and cry again for the tip jar XDD GODS THIS STORY IS SO GOOD Fr i had to stop several times bc i was just In My Feelings and i couldn't pay attention </3 TTuTT

Ruvi

I know everyone’s thinking the same but I gotta get a full release of the song!!! I need to listen to that shit as I stand on the pier and watch the sunset 🤩

Bailey Eales

I'm like the Charlie meme with my conspiracy theory(read truth knowing) on Steel killing Suvi's parents. Come at me. I got the fucking threads and post its.

Welibwe

Did any one else notice the foreboding, discordant notes in the song as they neared The Citadel??? I just can't fucking wait. This two week wait thing has been ABJECT TORTURE Edit: Ok so I finally read that I'll be waiting a whole month. I want to die

Welibwe

I was in a CVS in the middle of the night. I yelped and then starting tearing up. People were.... Concerned

Welibwe

I DON'T TRUST STEEL. I DON'T TRUST STEEL. I DON'T TRUST STEEL. I DON'T TRUST STEEL. I DON'T TRUST STEEL. I DON'T TRUST STEEL. I DON'T TRUST STEEL. I DON'T TRUST STEEL. SHE DEFINITELY KILLED SUVI'S PARENTS. OK now that's out.... AMAZING EPISODE!!!!!! Taylor. Fucking. Taylor!!! Superb sound design, my guy. Just really award winning caliber stuff. What's coming next? I can't wait. Knowing the stories Brennan tells, The Citadel is gonna be hella dangerous for WWW. Predictions: Suvi will have to grapple with citadel=bad; Eursolon's just gonna be in so much danger; Ame's gonna get taken advantage of or many will try. I think that whatever Ame learns in her memories will make waking up in The Citadel be very bad.

Welibwe

This beautiful song made me wanna go back and revisit Bombarded, I love musical TTRPGs so so much 😍

Kitty Stryker

Is Yoren just a fucked up transmutation wizard??

bannedcheese

OH, COME ON!!!!!!!!!

Ignacio Segura Montero

This was so good...any chance of getting a separate song audio?

Warren Schnur-Holmes

I’m bawling! Bravo team, this first arc was amazing. I cannot wait for the fireside chat to hear your breakdown of this amazing chapter. And Taylor, omg my man, the way you do your audio magic is phenomenal.

StWindsor

When I say my jaw dropped when that song started…

Emily

The ending of this... Brennan you are a monster.

Wrex Verdi

let me tell you how rewarding it was to listen to this after listening to the playlists and reading the liner notes on them throughout the week: I am fully immersed and frothing at the mouth. Incredible and breathtaking wrap-up to the first chapter. Brennan is a master describer, the WWW have the best chemistry I've ever seen with PC's, and Taylor's mixing alone puts this above all other dnd podcasts <3

Jesse Louden

FUCK YES TAYLOR!!!!! The music and sound design in this episode fucking rip!!!! If I could give this episode a grade it would be an F but in my grading system it stands for FUCK YES and it's the highest grade you can get!!!!

markiboi15

Nah Steel says in the children’s adventure that he’s not a wild one, he’s from Gaothmai or however you spell it. I’m thinking he’s this world’s version of the shifter race maybe

Jack Wilkinson

The fox is me after all you can eat sushi

Taylor Davies

Or, whatever the Shadowfel's version of a creature is?

Dewr

Damnit Brennan! :)

Dewr

So when are we getting an album with all this music?

Cameron Battagler

I think Yoren is a cursed/perverted version of a wild one - a bad version with a witch/warlock component to allow curses maybe

Katie Fesenmeyer

Anyone else think Yoren (who smells of iron) is a Wild One like Eursolon?

Jameson Madere

The song was so so so good, but the contraction and consequential revelation are the moments that had me misty-eyed in public.

Chris Almand

I don’t think I’ve ever been so moved by an actual play before this is so wonderful

Alec Beatty

I was leaving the parking garage at work and had to pause lest I cry in front of the parking attendant, I feel you

Aster

That song ❤️

Brendon Speed

Absolutely incredible! This first arch has been a beautiful ride from start to finish. The whole group should be absolutely proud and delighted by the rich and phenomenal story and performance they have gifted to us as listeners. Thank you thank you thank you! Crackle crackle and a hoo hoo to you all!

Julie

This series is amazing. From the music, the players and the GM. Great work to everyone involved. It's a great story that keeps me coming back for more. Love it!

La'Shawnda Mason

Um hello?? Can we get literally everything there is to know behind the scenes about that song please??

Sean Endress

“No judgement.” XD

Ignacio Segura Montero

Listening right now.

Ignacio Segura Montero

YOU KEEP YOUR BAD MAN MITTS OF THE FOX, YOU HEAR ME, BRENNAN!!!

Bex

Bawling in my car parked in my driveway after a long commute home just listening to the song. My neighbor probably think I’ve lost it. Thanks.

DJ Harrity

You guys. Stop. You can't do this shit to me WHILE I'M AT WORK!!!!! Fuck me.

Sarah Sutton

Yeah I realize that now. the part with the saphire stone didnt really click till i read the previous reply.

Brett Crampton

That SONG is MAGIC 😭✨✨✨✨✨

Red [himboadvocate]

I absolutely LOST it at my desk at work listening when the song started. this was absolutely insane in all the best ways. i want a full version of the song on its own so so so bad!!

Abigail Shelton

I could feel my shoulders relax when Ame's theme played. It's so subtle and lovely.

CJ

Pretty good episode. B+

Agiddysea

Man I really hope Ersalon is going to surprise Steel with the knowledge that Guild Mage Marrow is actually stuck at the bottom of the ocean. But why didn’t he share that knowledge? I felt like that info and the mercy of Naraam would’ve soften the blow to Steel knowing that 100+ of her wizards are now dead.

9D1

Full tears at the singing in the best way possible.

Fearne Pérez

Thank you for the time stamp!!!

LucidDreamerVex

Marked, with chills!

Skully

The song is amazing and the cliffhanger kills me, but more than anything else I just want Ame to be okay.

Jacque Curtsinger

fucking screaming

Alex Fasci

There is so much to say and unfortunately words will not suffice, nor can this limited being ever begin to summon them in the order that comes close to encapsulating the magnificence these ears have been blessed with. Thank you Instead of trying to muster together an accurate articulation of the deep appreciation felt for this fantastic feature; this pillar of an arc upon which a glorious saga will soon stand as you clever crafters weave your webs, instead of attempting such an endeavor, I will simply implore the incomparable Erika Ishii- if Ame doesn't already have Plant Growth in the possible spells for the Witch Class (which feels incredibly unlikely to Not have for such a nature-intuned being, but, on the off-chance it's not already stocked the second 3rd level hits), please, please petition for its addition! Am thinking purely of The Fox's widdle feets, and their need of grass or other soft stuff. Thank you in advance

Skully

Anyone else gonna practice a little delayed gratification on this episode? I’m gonna restart the whole series to really savour the whole beautiful story

Jenny

“We’re out here breaking curses before your mom can get here and you’re rolling Nat 1s?!” - quote of the episode from Lou

Seth Carter

Please please please give us the song of Naram to listen to on repeat while we wait for chapter 2

zach kanevski

How dare you Brennan Lee Mulligan......... That's all I have to say. How. Dare. You.

Randolph McGurrin

Thank you Aabria for screaming at Brennan when I cannot. What an amazing episode

The Wizard Spice

Well then. I normally don’t comment, just deeply enjoy. Gonna make an exception. Thank you all so much. What you are doing hit all the right notes for me. Love it. Thoughts: I enjoy all three characters, but until this episode Suvi has felt the most adrift and tragic. Even more than Eursolon, who is has lost himself in this world that has seen his nature as a means to power, has not felt as lost as Suvi. I have loved this because it feels so sublte. Ame is severed in some way from being rejected by her past and people and then has the part of her relationship with grandmother Wren that focuses the training love and wisdom imparted on specific purpose be shrouded by curse. Eursulon is severed from the place where he is understood as a embodied concept. The place were his body is what his spirit breaths. Inseparable in that place. Now he is trapped in a world where he is understood as mind, spirit and body where theses are parts that are understood as distinct from one another and he only gets to touch wholeness and understanding briefly. He is locked away from fully experiencing the unity of self except in moments of limited self-awareness. Both Ame and Eursulon are adrift. But Suvi, is adrift in herself, her trauma, her tragedy and all the ways she has bound up those hurts and wounds. She can’t find her self in herself. I bet her parents spirits weep to see it. Until this episode there did not feel like there was a point of reference for Suvi to even begin to find her way out of that. We have had that explicitly first with Ame and then later with Eursulon. Glimpes of roads. If you can see a road you are probably on your way to not being lost. Those moment made Ame and Eursulon feel like characters easier to connect with as an audience member. I love Suvi, her complexity and the realness of being lost inside ourselves and our pain. It resonates. But not with something that contained the potential to help me, the audience member learn something about myself in those kinds of internal struggles. Connecting with Suvi has felt like holding my breath till it burns. Super fucking cool for storytelling to pull that off but was starting to feel like I needed to breath and disconnect. And I could feel myself doing just that, until this episode. The moment she has at the end with her father’s book and realization about her mother’s magic. It was like watching her catch glimpse of a lighthouse flash in the sea of her own pain. It was her connecting to the good her parents gave her, rather than just the pain of their loss. It was tasting a moment of sweet air before a crashing wave. It drew me back in, wanting to hold my breath with her, wanting desperately shake her to pay attention, real attention to the layers of deep meaning in that momentary glimpse of goodness and possibility, the momentary experience of not being lost to herself. MAN!!!!!!! I love all the all three so much but that moment was deeply and profoundly satisfying in ways I am still wrapping my brain around. There is so much there I want her to notice. The contraction of the necessity of the Linguo Arcana feels like profound permission to question the very nature of the rules of Empire, permission to question the ways the Empire has militarized her pain, permission to question why she is lost in her-self and what she might be loosing of her parents true love and legacy if she is bound up in her loss by the ways the Empire may be leveraging her parents as martyrs? How invested is the Empire in Suvi’s pain being fed and her being lost in it? How much is the thing Suvi has been clinging as a life raft, the soulless machinations of Empire that drains her insight and love to harness her trauma and pain? I want her to have those ideas sparked by her fathers contraction and her mother’s acts of loving magic done in her first years of life. AHHHHHH! Yep. Very cool. Second musing. I really really hope the story comes back to Galani at some point. That moment of insight around her hearing the song. Oh man there is room to play there. So much the Machinery of Empire can do with that. So many ways the Empire can use appropriation to control that. The empire sees the importance of the people connecting with this heritage and history, so the Empire in its graciousness starts a choir to keep the song present and honoring the spirits. The Empire can pour resources into the choir, helping it grow into a group dedicated to keeping that song alive, perfecting for the people. Slowly taking away the peoples need to sing the song because it is sung by better singers, who live to study it to perfect it, who do it better than the people have the time for. Disconnect them from the act, then slowly shame them for doing it poorly, then push the people so far from it that they don’t notice when you begin to change is subtly, alter it, control it. Yep. The Machinery of Empire is bad bad bad, and having the characters come back to Galani, who seems like a pretty cool lady, is something I hope we get to see. How will the seed of how Galani noted the lack of Imperial Control become Machinery of Empire. Good stuff there. Thanks. Any art that can make me think and feel like that is worth commenting upon. Thank you thank you thank you.

James Bixler

Like so many of us I am just sobbing in a public place. Gorgeous

Jessica Dougherty

Absolutely beautiful. Just fantastically beautiful

Jasmine Gill

this might be one of if not *the* greatest podcast ep I have ever heard but that cliffhanger 😭 I wanna know what the heart of the world is SO BAD

Vi

Brennan!!!! Also the song was so beautiful. A fitting end to this arc and I can't wait to see what comes next

Clairodactyl

I can't express how much I love all yalls storytelling, truly amazing. Thank you so much for everything you all do and Taylor with the absolute perfect sound designing is just *chefs kiss*

RaveComet

Tbf; Orima didn't know that Suvie was in any way part of the deal. She had no idea Suvie was even acquainted with Amae. All she saw was a weird, shadowy wizard pretending to look like her husband.

Locemo

Thanks fam for giving me such a beautiful community music and storytelling moment that I was openly weeping while I walked up Yonge St. (Probably the busiest street in Toronto). One of the few downsides to this medium is that you can't experience us giving you all an incredibly well-deserved standing ovation for the brilliant gift of this arc. Words for gratitude always feel too small written down, but thank you. Thank you.

Gavin McDonald

My god, the song???? You are all incredible

annemjw

I cannot wait to listen to this! Can I ask: is there there a title for this arc of WWWO now that it has come to an end? Is there a name for the next arc?

Robbie Irwin

The whiplash from the beautiful haunting song to the dick jokes lile five minutes later......... priceless. What an episode!

Alyx Nida

I hope the lyrics to the song are in the transcript. I’d definitely gather some friends and work out those harmonies

Jordan Youssef

Thanks, Brennan and Taylor, for giving me and my wife (both music teachers) some homework. Learning this song is gonna be fun!

Steve Underhill

Oh my god that was incredible. Thank you all so much for the effort and energy you've put into this. So much love from the UK

Ellen Hubbard

"Your name will be rent from your memory" man did not have to go that hard

Jackaloop

"I will break the finger to spare the arm" all my love

Jackaloop

Taylor that soooooong!!??? are you kiddinngggggg meeeeeeeee. i cried real tears. thank you for that beautiful moment.

Birdie

Instantly sobbing. Holy cow. What an incredible job. I am so throughly impressed.

Megs

I do not own a record player but would by a vinyl of The Rain Road and the rest of the sound track in a heartbeat

Jordyn

Taylor didn't have to go that hard. He did that for us. This was heartbreakingly, hauntingly beautiful. Thank you all so much 🧡

Lilith Evenstar

Oh. My. God. I was listening to this episode while I'm at work and you've nearly brought me to tears at least half a dozen times. I can't begin to describe how profoundly moving the conversation about honor and joy was for me; joy being an integral part of true honor. So beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing story with us. I can't wait for the start of the next arc!

Katelyn Holland

Tears, tears on my face.

Timothy Schonkaes

Okay but do Ame and Suvi level up?! They deserve it!! I wanna know Suvi's school so bad, and Ame's curse got broken! She knows stuff now! Ahhh, I know itll happen soon but it's just so exciting.

Timothy Schonkaes

Just casually listening in my car, and the bass and sound design for this episode is just freaking amazing! Gave me chills!

Xavior

God this was so gorgeous! You keep outdoing yourselves!

Chris Rzepa

I too am puking black bile, how dare you wonderful people leave with the knowledge of what’s to come and leave us crying and screaming… ily

bloops

Bravo. Now to find a way to mitigate the break

James B

If you were not screaming “NO!” along with Aabria Iyengar at the end of this episode like a kid fighting being put down for a nap, then I don’t know WHAT you were listening to, but it wasn’t this episode.

Paige

Brennan has a thing about letting you choose how he hurts you

James B

I'll just be over here being a story goblin, just inhaling the descriptions & character choices & sound design like so many delicious treats

mguin

That does actually make sense when put like that. She wouldnt have been able to tell.

Brett Crampton

I am not in choir but I will sing the shit out of that song 😭

lunarsummer

I feel like I didn't stop crying quite long enough from the first two times to count it as a whole third time so far 😭

lunarsummer

That does sound closer, though!

LB Brimer

Those screams of the stranglersAHHHH

lunarsummer

Hey friends. Hey gang. The fact that this dang show has made me cry more than any ttrpg show I've enjoyed in the past surely means something. Not me screaming with Aabria and the end of the episode. Absolutely spectacular work.

Ashlie Stuckey

That song? Chills. The "contraction?" Gasp of joy! The ride so far? FULLY invested. My metaphorical go-bag is packed and ready. Thank you all for your imaginations, work, and aid in making my most stressful work days so very enjoyable!

Danielle Hood

For real. The mix of traditional folk song musical language and church hymn chord resolution makes it hit a *very* niche spot in my witchy heart. "Hey music nerd, you've always envied Christianity for having beautiful hymns but that org is not for you. Here have a song with the language of folklore and the musical resolutions of hymns. Also some tissues, because you're gonna cry."

Ciaran Chatwin

It sounds like maybe the first time it's "Then embrace ye (me?) love that's soon to be. O'er the road..." I can't parse it the second time it does sound slightly different

TheBardBullseye

Same. :D

Daniela Plößner

I wonder if Suvi would have been, from Orima's perspective, bound by the deal she made with the Witch of Toma? I mean Ame bargained from the position of all three of them being protected, but Orima couldn't *detect* Suvi at all. So from Orima's perspective this Wizard of the Citadel is wearing her captured husband's face to lure the spirit somewhere, maybe into a trap like the one that holds her beloved?

Ciaran Chatwin

When a song slaps so hard it 'bout to start a new religion IRL

Joseph Labatt

Perfect wonderful amazing!! I love this, I love you guys!!!!!

Joos

I'm really glad you folks are taking a break because you put in a lot of work. I do have one question: I just finished Arc 1 and what am I supposed to do with my life now? Go outside? Eat ice cream? With all this speculation in my head?

Andrew Massey

When the singing starts, so too does the crying

Perverseness

Ugh! Fruit of the mortals? Gross!

Worlds Beyond Number

I got full body chills when the Song of the Sea started.

Dana Swithenbank

Oop that's four

Ruvi

Omg where can I get the full song of the sea?! am fully ugly weeping right now and I need it!

A

Welp ive cried three times now good job. I almost need like a physical tip jar for how many times this story makes me cry haha

Ruvi

Wowwwww, that music is spectacular!! I need that song to be released somehow, someway. It feels like a hymn but older somehow?? Beautiful!!

Megan

I’m listening at work, and I don’t even know what my face just did when the song started. 😳😭🥰

Paige

It's more about how Suvi, who has had to grow up without her parents, can still understand how they think and be part of the magical tradition they built together thanks to this book and understanding that one bit of magical grammar is like a first step and proof that it can be done. ETA: This is, of course, my interpretation. Could totes be wrong.

Ciaran Chatwin

I fully threw the episode into my audio editor and pulled the song out as a separate mp3 so I can play it on loop.

Ciaran Chatwin

Having listened to it several times over and over I'm pretty sure that's our lovely players. Erika first then joined by Aabria. Sounds like Brennan on the baritone and Lou on the bass lines.

Ciaran Chatwin

Amazing end to the first chapter / arc of WWW (and beginning of so much more)! Love, love, love the title, the **sound design**, the way consequences were dealt with in this episode. Y'all did such a great job. Ugh! Spectacular!

Jojo

Why the FUCK am I crying in my kitchen while doing dishes?! In all seriousness though I do think this series and this episode in particular have significantly raised the bar for me for actual play D&D podcasts, I understand that this level of production quality is a massive undertaking and it's simply not possible for every series to achieve it but in all honesty a lot of other D&D podcasts seem sort of lackluster in comparison now. I have made it past the great stag into the orchard of the gods and now the fruit of mortals falls bitter on my tongue. Astounding work.

Aaron Lamont

YE MAN FR

Ruvi

okay SAME- literally listening to the song and SOBBING on my lunch break

Laurie Ashley

I am going to need a copy to sing-cry along to in my car please

Nathan Gold

I'm 45 minutes in and how DARE you make me cry AGAIN but with MUSIC this time

Nathan Gold

I'm calling it now, Morrow is gonna be back as a villain either mid campaign or late campaign. But I don't think Brennan had Naram let him live on a whim. I think Brennan still has plans for that boy. You really think that Brennan isn't exactly the type of DM to make his face the same villain over and over again? Especially when they had the opportunity to kill him but didn't? Please, this is the man that made Callroy Cruller, and ran the Calamity one shot for EXU. Everything about Brennan screams that Morrow will be back and angry right when we've had enough time to forget about him. Mark My words.

Sean Boyle

I didn't fully understand all the technical jargon with the null cleft and the magical bit there. It was really cool to hear more about how arcane magic works in this beautiful mythic world

Patrick Massey

TAYLORRRRRRRRRR THE SCREAMING GREEN?????? Stroke of genius w that sound design chief oh my GOD

Dylln

"Suvi who are you talking to?" "My dad..." BROKE ME

Diamondarrel

Wow- teared up during the song when Brennan said “this is something they can’t control.” Great job everyone. 💯

Addy

What the hell that was the most beautiful thing that ever touched my ears 😭 you guys suck for making me cry

Meg Smith

this was awesome thank you Worlds Beyond team!! cant wait for the next arc but I hope you all get a chance to rest too!!

mads

Incredible end to an amazing first arc, folks, just blown away.

Mike Histon

This. Please. It's so good!

RoseWitch

Felt honestly, I would have too 😭

LB Brimer

I’M FUCKIN WEEPING AND I’M NOT EVEN HALF WAY THROUGH YET 😭😭😭 it’s beautiful, such a beautiful job from everyone.

Evan Niessen-Derry

This has just been so incredibly spectacular I cannot wait for arc 2 I will just sit patiently and unmoving until it is released

Madison Beske-Somers

OCTOBER??,

Like a bat out of The 9 Hells I’ll be gone when the morning comes

Gosh i can't even pay attention after that song I NEED A MOMENT !!!! TToTT jee!!! That got me in my Soul

Ruvi

Man i listened to it while packing my groceries and cried like a baby haha

Ruvi

I cried fellas i cried so much im not even sure i understand but i felt it

Ruvi

I don't know how to put into words JUST how beautiful this sound design is. It's truly some of the most beautiful & evocative sound design I have encountered and I...I UGH. AWARDS. ALL OF THEM. ALL THE TIME. This was a brilliant chapter and one heck of a cliffhanger! I genuinely can't wait to hear what comes next.

Kat Roy

Really, really wonderful work, y'all. Much love.

Evan Fleischer

What was the significance of the reveal at the end, that both her parents had worked on spells together? I didn’t understand

Johnny Olives

"This episode featured a song called The Rain Road, with music by Taylor Moore and lyrics by Taylor Moore and Brennan Lee Mulligan. Look at us, like Hall and Oates over here!"

Wil Josephson

RELEASE THE SONG COWARDS

Pan or Mercutio

Why you gotta make me cry in the middle of work day

Ben Fogle

Oh, you're totally right. Thank you!

LB Brimer

I think it's "By the road the rain rides to the sea"

Brenden Sparks

Yuuupp the fireside could just be all about the song and I'd be happy!

IJLSK

Put. the song. On Spotify. NOW!!!

HexMix

I'll also say. I first listened to this at 5am in a thick mist and gentle rain, walking my dog along the woods on a secluded road. 10/10, hit me emotionally like a train, best circumstances.

LB Brimer

Yeah that is true but it still really pissed me off. Im just hope we dont have to deal with her psychotic ruthless ass anytime soon

Brett Crampton

From what I heard, it seemed like she spun up around him to block Galani's abjurative blast, not specifically to cut him off, but I totally could be wrong!

Christopher Peesel

HELP yall I have bad audio comprehension sometimes, an assist with the lyrics in the second verse? Question marks where I'm guessing but sure I'm wrong! There's a variation on the second to last line in the last repetition of the verse but I can't quite manage to comprehend it. Goddang my slight hearing issues! Edited once! "Where the wave has grazed the reach of green And the wood by gentle sea We count the coming of the tide By a love as old as time Lay down your blanket On the forest floor In the peace of waves that crash no more Then embrace, (??) Assume to be (??) By the road, the rain rides to the sea(x2 on the last repetition)"

LB Brimer

Glad I'm not the only one that cried, but now I gotta wait for answers?!!?

Benny Rodriguez

Please tell me the song is going to be released 😭😭

Bryn

holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shiiiiiiiiiit

Jordan Youssef

TAYLOR TAYLOR MY MAN WHEN BRENAN SAYS "SHE STARTS TO SING" WE JUST IMAGINE WHATEVER SONG WE LIKE. YOU DID NOT HAVE TO DO THAT I'M CRYING

Locemo

Episode was fun but honestly orima pissed me off so much. They made a deal which is a big deal for spirits yet She was gonna break it by killing suvie. Youd think her husband would be peeved by her going after the very people TRYING to Help them. Then she stoppe dhim from finishing his obvious important message. Talk about crazy and toxic literally

Brett Crampton

Just openly crying at work 😭😭😭

Trey Lord

Jesus RR Christ, I need to know everything about the song. Who wrote it? Who performed it? Are there Golden Globe categories for best original song in a podcast? Why am I still crying? I am in a very public place, WHY AM I STILL CRYING

Ben

God, what a magnificent ending to just the first(!) chapter/arc of WWW!

Just a Fox

Definitely openly weeping on public transit and at work. Thank you all so much for this incredible story, and I can't wait to see where we go. Taylorrrrr can we please get the lyrics/sheet music for the song? It's so stunning.

Stephanie

This ep made me cry twice. First time when all the people of Port Talon were singing, second time when Suvi responded to Eursalon asking "who are you talking to?" with "My father..." 😭😭😭

Just a Fox

Crying in traffic to the song. Curse you, Taylor and Brennan!!

Daniel A.

Did I start weeping in the street while walking my dog as soon as the song hit? Maaaaaybe… I’ll never tell! Either way, I have marked 46:30 and have gone back to it multiple times

Miriam Emmrys

And it was hella specific magical lore that did it

Ellen Page

Y’all it was always going to happen, I’ve been risking it every episode… I cried at work

Ellen Page

I totally didn't start crying my cube listening to the episode when the song hit...that didn't happen ... nope

Amy Elizabeth Reinhart

AHH I'm so excited to listen :)))

Cleo Bear

I haven’t r gotten to the rest of the episode because I’ve just been rewinding the song—dangerous gone? is it called?—over and over.

Taliesin Breen

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT A FULLY PRODUCED CUSTOM SONG!?!?!? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 THIS PODCAST IS TOP TIER

Nick Sifuentes

Hey now I’ma need y’all to stop playing and release Naram’s and Orima’s song

Black Man In Progress

Patrick Massey

Hey team? Hey team?!?! OW MY HEART!! It’s 12am here and I am bawling my eyes out listening!!! Beautiful and truly has me feeling like this is a work of real magic, my god

Rebe Doran

Aabria's yelling at the end is my mirrored feeling in a most joyous, raucous, despairing fashion. What an arc, what a production, what a show, WHAT A FRIGGIN CLIFFHANGER, BRENNAN!!

Gregory Davis

SOBBING SCREAMING PISSING MY PANTS HOLY FUCK THAT WAS THE BEST TWO HOURS OF MY LIIIIFFFFEEE

Elaina Wilson

Brennan, how dare you! How dare you end there! You bad man!

Raven Peterson

I choose to believe that Aabria, Erika, and Lou all sang the song too

Christopher Peesel

Where are my choir nerds?? Anyone want to arrange and sing it together?? 💖

d2k

The old woman’s song is incredibly beautiful, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what the words are in the last two lines of the chorus? Help?

Jules Vance

the song. the SONG

d2k

"Who are you talking to" "My dad!..." AAAAAAA

vvitch

Hell yeah (solemn)

Dominique Dixon

Also just the casual sibling banter post-calamity is SO GOOD! It's like when they were kids and it's so precious!

RoseWitch

Can we PLEASE get an in depth BTS from Taylor about all the audio production & SFX design??? It's OFF THE CHAIN MY MAN!!!!!!!!!

Thomas Flott

TAYLOR!!!! ALL OF Y'ALL!!!!! I'm not even finished yet but I need the song from the 46 minute mark YESTERDAY!!!!! /bawling

Ciaran Chatwin

It's 9:20 in the morning how am I supposed to just GO ABOUT MY DAY holy SHIT what the HELL

Sea Moose

A cat napping in a sunbeam listening to a podcast

Brennan laying out the equation for Suvi at the beginning and all I can think is “are you weakest at the elbow or the shoulder?”

Seth Carter

When I say I got fullbody goosebumps when the song began it BROKE me yall.

LB Brimer

Oh don't mind me, just trying to hold my shit together in my little cubicle at that GORGEOUS song, my goodness.

Joseph Carleno

Oh that was SO GOOD!!! Massively excited for the next arc - hope in the meantime we get the soundtrack including The Rain Road bc by god did i sob listening to it and i need it in my playlists like yesterday. 😭💕

caochpotata

Donald Chambliss Jr.

Shannon Brooks

This is the BEST episode EVER!! 🤣 ♥️💯

Dream Wizard Kyle Arca

ALSO CAN WE GET THAT SOMG CLEEEAAAN??? PLEASE?

PokéRedstone

this is SO GOOD oh my

Zoe Raisbeck

I didn’t expect the begin crying when I heard the song, but when the horns came back in with the peoples’ song after Brennen describes Galani’s reaction it reminded me of the power of community I had the very absurd and pie in the sky thought that is is shaping up to be the greatest campaign ever played if this is how good the first level has been. At the very least, it is quickly becoming my favorite. I have nothing but the highest respect for you all and take such joy in the honor of listening to your work. The five of you are creating something truly special.

PokéRedstone

Excuse me, there's a SONG ????

Nahda

INCREDIBLE

Stashlie

Pure goosebumps during the song! Everyone smashed it, incredible work

Marcus

Absolutely incredible, moved my heart and soul

Jake the Cake

So obsessed with the imagery of Suvi leading Orima's stranglers to her husband on a white horse,,, I feel like that meme of the sickos cackling at the window (I'm sickos)

Walter Wyrmslayer

Taylor! WHO are the lovely voices singing the rain road?! You and they did such a wonderful wonderful job! It's such a beautiful piece of music!

Heyyitsphil

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Ruvi

The song is beautiful. I've never heard the like outside of a Ghibli movie and I nearly blubbed in the office. Holy fuck you guys outdid yourselves.

RoseWitch

I will use the break to get caught up!

Mireya Gray

Not even two minutes in, and the sound design is perfection! So excited for this episode!

Marley McDonough

The caption is giving that feeling when you’ve been dating someone for 14 weeks and it’s been the most revolutionary romantic experience of your life. You cannot believe the impossible person you dreamed of is real. Then one chilly August morning as the leaves threaten to turn, the text comes you just about let yourself believe wasn’t coming. This is ‘we need to talk’ and I don’t believe you when you say you just need some space. Am I feeling this too much? See you in October then I GUESS. 😫 Just kidding I’m totally fine about this. I don’t love you.

George

Stay ready so you don't have to get ready.
