Wot's this, an actual finished piece?! And of course ironically not any one of numerous WIPs I've got going... 🫠 Ain't it just the way.
It feels like I haven't been doing enough actual paintings (mostly just studies or something) so I've scheduled myself for daily painting for the past week or so. It's not meant to be anything crazy or wild, but just whatever I can get down on paper (iPad) and at least have something to put into a potential portfolio...maybe.
ANYWAY GUESS WHO'S ALSO BEEN REWATCHING THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN SERIES LOLOLOL. I'd forgotten how freaking amazing the first one was, and 2-3 were actually not all terrible for sequels. Let's ignore 4-5, even though...technically this painting was inspired by Penelope Cruz's character design in the 4th one lol.
Technically the most unrealistic thing about this painting is actually the bird. It's supposed to be a kākāpō, a critically-endangered species of parrot from New Zealand. For whatever reason, it seems the poor birbs down in NZ have all forgotten to fly because the kākāpō, much like the better-known kiwi, is a ground birb. But hey, as Bob not-my-uncle Ross says, "In our world, anything is possible."
