Next Game: Plan and Q&A
Added 2024-07-03 17:05:02 +0000 UTCSome information regarding the next game. Do note that this is only a plan and is subject to change.
Next Game is a party-based sandbox rpg with real time action combat. It is similar to Heroine Rescue Team in spirit but I wouldn’t call it HRT2 exactly as there will be differences as well.
Next Game will feature 2 Phases: the Roaming Phase and the Action Phase.
The Roaming Phase currently looks something like this: (very early in-dev pics of course) where you control the player party and you decide where to move to on the World Map. In the World Map, you can encounter other parties and various locations. Clicking on those parties/locations causes the player party to travel towards them.
The Action Phase is what happens upon reaching the interaction target. This is where the player’s party enters an Area and the player gets to control their character directly. They can fight the other group if it’s a hostile party or simply explore the Area if it's a location/town. When this conflict is resolved, or when the player decides to exit the area, the player will be brought back to the Roaming Phase and is free to explore the World Map again.
This setup is similar to games like Mount and Blade and Starsector, so if you are familiar with those games you should have a pretty good idea what it is like.
As I see this as a successor to Heroine Rescue Team, it will have many of the same features found in Heroine Rescue Team:
Loot and Magical Gear
A Capturing & Recruiting System
Party and Allied Party Members
In-combat Grabs
Randomized Dungeon System
Modding System
Of course, it will have some new features as well:
Monsters (not grabbable) and Monster Girls (grabbable)
A whole new World Map system to explore in
Non-combat activities such as playing as a trader that caravans between towns
Different factions on the World Map that the player can side with and influence the state of the world
Btw I should probably mention that most of the mods for Heroine Rumble 2 will be compatible with Next Game as well and can just be plugged in as it is.
Game Setting: high fantasy / post-apocalyptic (post-apocalyptic as an easy way to justify finding some modern lewd things in a high fantasy setting world :P)
Combatant Size in Action Phase: not that high, probably like a small group for player versus like mabe 20 ish active enemies at most at once (not counting reinforcements). Believe it or not, what Mount and Blade did to support 1000 units in a battle is probably fairly impressive underneath the hood.
Beat-Em-Up Gameplay? This is the part where I am not 100% sure on what to do. Heroine Rescue Team has a 3rd person view action system and I’m sure there are players looking forward to that. On the other hand, starting as a beat-em-up saves me from having to implement a completely new combat system from scratch and I can focus on the other aspects of the game at first and push it to a more playable state.
Again, I haven't decided on this yet, but there is a chance that once the other areas of the game are more established, I’ll replace the beat-em-up Action Phase to a 3rd person view action system similar to what Heroine Rescue Team has.
I have some (very very early of course) footage if you want to get a better idea of what I'm talking about:

Roaming Phase: https://x.com/Enlit3D/status/1808545348656509429
That’s it from me for now. I’ll leave this post as a Q&A and feel free to ask any questions regarding the Next Game in the comments and I’ll answer them and make the next info post more complete.

I did genuinely enjoy the 3rd person action style. its what mainly attracted me here in the first place. but as is want to do its not an easy task to make a game based on that working on it by yourself. I would say focus more on concepts first and then if the idea permits maybe consider third person? If it would be a simpler task to do otherwise though by all means.

2024-07-07 17:40:16 +0000 UTCWill there defeat capture mechanic for PC and party when fighting opponents. As well a possible camp raid attack that could happen on the party when camping. Really play into the rescue everyone mentality.

2024-07-05 16:01:23 +0000 UTCHi there, this concept looks very interesting (I love mount and blade). And sure it would be fun to have a party of ten brawlers going into other ten enemys and this going out of control into a giant orgy. winner keeps the stuff of the loser and some of the members. where can i sign for it?

2024-07-03 20:31:01 +0000 UTC1) yeah, but that will be a later feature 2) the world movement speed is gonna be calculated based on party members + captives and their individual speed. As for other means of transportation including things like teleporting circles I'm not opposed to the idea but it's gonna be in the "maybe" pile 3) yeah very similar to m&b and kenshi, probably gonna include the pause the game unless player moves feature too. As for "quests" I am not sure yet. Part of me want to lean more heavily into simulation side of things and have other AI adventuring parties potentially "competing" for the same "quests" too. But I'm not sure if that will be a popular mechanic. Or just have the player be the "chosen one" and the world state in suspension unless the player influence it. 4) the random dungeon will be something very similar to what HRT had, and will consist of rooms connected together randomly. It might not look like it, but all the environment are in actual 3D, and not just a floor and background you see in the beat-em-up view.

2024-07-03 20:28:14 +0000 UTC1) Will modding support include a way to mod in custom overworld maps/factions? 2) On the overworld map, will roaming be restricted to running on foot, or will there be things like vehicles to increase overworld movement speed? 3) Will time pass during the overworld like it does in mount and blade/kenshi? And would quests be tied to that timer? 4) Since you mentioned dungeons and the possibility of it being beat-em-up gameplay (I'm all for it, I loved streets of rage) will the dungeons just be one long hallway, or would you intend for paths in it? Sorry about the question deluge, I think this might be your coolest project yet.

2024-07-03 20:01:26 +0000 UTCHaving fun with all the projects so far. My only "complaint" is that there are limited stomping, stepping and trampling attacks. Will the new game will have more of these? Or any chance if the older games get some new moves like these?
