2024-04-02 20:04:32 +0000 UTCI work as an accountant. Specifically in the area of costing/ inventory in an industry that requires a certain level of quality for it to be safe to use effectively. (Sorry can't get too specific). For my day to day, I am so disconnected from the physical product that I can't even picture what most of these items look like (there's hundreds of them). All I see are item numbers on a spreadsheet with their bill of materials listed. I don't interact with the end product at all. All I see are numbers on a spreadsheet. Basically the point I'm trying to make is that "MBA finance" types shouldn't be the ones making the final decisions. We think in spreadsheets and balance sheets. Green/ black number good, red number bad. Make red number go away and green number go up by any means necessary. Quality of product means nothing to us because we don't even necessarily see what the product looks like in the end. Those who actually know and understand the product should be the ones in charge. The engineers in the case of Boeing. With finance being a support role to help "reign in" some of the costs/ budget.
