Left on Read: Master and Commander

November and Riley read the first in Patrick O'Brian's Aubery-Maturin series, and what follows is just under an hour of November and Riley loudly loving the first novel in Patrick O'Brian's Aubery-Maturin series for its painterly writing, obsession with mundane-seeming detail, and disdain for swashbuckling tales of derring-do... among other things!

I enjoyed Maturin's warning that men like Jack are prone to spontaneously dying while running too hard on land. That was the actual historical cause of death for the uncle of Captain Morgan (yes, the rum guy), who "being a corpulent man... pursued over earnestly the enemy on a hot day, so that he surfeited and suddenly died".

Ya I'm at reverse of a metal now and love how the characters have developed to almost be a parody of the natural tropes in genre fiction.

Eric Murphy

I read these in my teens and early twenties and thought they were fun adventures. I'm realizing so much of the commentary and language went over my head

I picked up a paper book for the first time in a while based on your earlier shilling. Didn't put it down until Isaac Wilson and then only because I died.

November, if you're also autistic and love boats, may I suggest you look into Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts? Great episode. Loved it. Gonna go check out the books after bouncing off Horatio Hornblower.

Dad bod Jack Aubrey

Oliver Cant

So Jack Aubrey was basically an Anime protagonist before it was cool?
