Britainology 76: Christmas Songs (and Number Ones)
Added 2023-12-20 11:36:15 +0000 UTCFor this month's second Britainology, Milo introduces Nate to the hermetically sealed world of British contemporary Christmas music, and Nate gives recorded-live reactions to his first time hearing Wizzard perform "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday." A lot of music-talk digression follows as well—we hope you enjoy this!

As someone who spends almost every new-year in the UK I feel that the New Year's Fireworks show might make for an interesting episode (might need some padding) It has lead to some insane moments due to it being run by the London Mayor. So you get displays dedicated to "Windrush and LGBTQ rights and the NHS (also honoring the new King)" whilst this government rules. Or the "London is open" fireworks just after brexit

2023-12-24 09:46:52 +0000 UTCI've known about Cliff Richard for decades thanks to the young ones but this is the first time I've ever heard one of his songs.

2023-12-24 09:25:22 +0000 UTCNothing on this list is as bad as “Christmas Shoes” , but oh god do I hate “Fairytale of New York” it is an immediate no from me. Only “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” for after dinner drinking. “2000 Miles” falls into the same category as “River” by Joni Mitchell in that I always forget it is a Christmas song.

2023-12-22 00:42:25 +0000 UTCWas waiting the whole episode for the Grandma song. There’s a theory that all the boomers were too depressed about John Lennon getting shot to buy records around then so this created a vacuum for the Grandma song. Also on an unrelated note, my fiancé accidentally referred to the Eastern Roman Empire as the ‘Bazintine Empire’ - just thought you should know
